SA playing way too fast

Anyone know why my SA is playing through the title screens (EAX, nVidia and GTA San Andreas) way too fast and also loads way too fast? Also, I'm able to load my own save games, but I can't load any of the CG saves.

I don't think the specifications are much important here, but anyway:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.41 GHz

ASUS M4A785 M/B

ATI Radeon HD 4200 128MB IGFX (crappy card, I know, but it is known to work)

2GB A-Data DDR3 RAM

320 GB/298 GiB WD3200 HDD

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Build 2600

As a side note, I used to use a No-CD crack, since my disc is now a bit old, and thought that may be the problem, but no.

Things I tried:

  • Replaced crack with original exe. No.
  • Replaced original with compact exe. No.
  • Restored original and updated to 1.01. No.
  • Reinstalled and did all the above again. No.
  • Tried setting CPU affinity to all of the four CPUs, one at a time. No.

.

game plays too fast

If you’re on XP and have a dual core AMD processor, then go here:

Download and install the optimizer and see if it has helped.

Regarding Chain Game, did you read the pinned topics there?

The simple solution if the game is running too fast, is to turn the Frame Limiter ON in the in-game settings-this will limit the FPS to 25 for SA and 30 for VC and III... A big reason why the game may run fast, is because you have a PC(and this goes for pretty much any PC now a days-except netbooks) that is way above the specs set for this game...HTH

why complain about loading too fast? i wish i could load fast!

but anyway here a few things which might make your game run fast

you may have a good PC which has the most best video cards etc.

you don't have mods insatlled (i noticed since i used mods the loading screen takes longer)

your FPS is locked/limited

your PC is brand new and it is fast like every new PC

As you may have noticed, I have a quad core AMD processor, and it is not x64, it is x86-64, as given in the Phenom II specifications. So I don't think that is a proper solution, anyway. I have read about the optimizer, but didn't mention it because it was obvious that I have an X4.

Yes I have read the pinned topics, and I thought of mentioning the problem in the Lounge itself, but thought I might as well just mention it here, anyway.

And radioman and Th3MaN1, as I said, the problem is not the game running too fast, it's that the title and loading screens flash away too fast. Anyway, I have tried the frame limiter on and off, but that's not the problem. I had played GTA SA (perfectly normally) on the very same PC on the very same installation of the current OS 4-5 months ago before I uninstalled it, and even after I just installed SA a few days ago, it seemed to be working normally.

Also, the game randomly ran normally when I tried adding it to the startup programs. But then again, only randomly. It's like once in ten times or so that it does.

You didn't mention that it is a reinstall of previously working game.

Have you tried the "Asprin"... Deleting the GTA_SA.set file?

Why wouldn't I have thought of it? I mean, I tried deleting the settings files when the problems started showing. Just forgot to mention that in any of my posts. And the settings file is replaced anyway when upgrading to 1.01.

And one more thing, I didn't have the 1.01 patch on the installation that I mentioned about having 4-5 months ago. But I remember playing SA with the patch recently without any problems. And I have no modifications, CLEO is not installed and no asi loaders or hooks.

I guess I'll further make the useless statement: Your affinity is "0" only?

One at a time includes zero. I guess I have got here:

The options aren't exactly so bright, are they?

Never mind, your ideas are still welcome, although it's not that important, since I'm going off to college in a week while this PC will be sitting home alone.

  • 2 weeks later...

Then this thread better be locked!

If the 'framelimiter' and the 'gtasa_set' thingies are not working :

•Lose hope.

•Remove you-know-what

Re-install the game. Try messing with defragmenting, etcetera.

Try alternate EXEs (I mean the ones which you haven't tried).

Wow what a good suggestion! dozingoff.gif If you're here to say that please don't, it's not helpful.

On-Topic: Maybe try the optimiser on that CPU as well, it might work, if not try reinstalling graphics and chipset drivers, could have to do because I'm clueless too now.

My GTA SA loads up really fast too on my desktop PC but after that I get a lot of stutter, so I'm forced to play on my laptop. I haven't tried downloading a CG save on my desktop PC, I'll give it a try and see if it loads. If it doesn't load then it's probably a problem with Service Pack 3. If you have any other operating systems on dual boot give that a go.

By the way I just noticed you have Windows XP. Windows XP might be freaking out with the more powerful CPU and the DDR3 RAM; you should sometime consider an upgrade to Windows 7.

Really? I think that's not quite an option!

Off topic : @Spider-Vice. Edited that. Removed that.
