Do you remember the cast list leaked on March this year? When i read "Mrs. Bell" i knew that was GTA, because Phill Bell's wike was mentioned in GTA IV, they are divorced, and she was living in San Andreas. The cast list were looking for a californian woman (ugly, divorced.. etc) THIS HAS TO BE THE F*CKING GTA (NEXT)!!!!!!!!

By the way, i don't know where i read the Mcreary surname.. another cast list i believe

The list was fake.

I want your guys thoughts on something.

In August 2010 there was an article on VG247 with the following statement:

“Come on.”

“You asked Rockstar?”

“Right.”

“They’re going to announce it soon.”

“When?”

“I don’t know. I think it’s going to be at the Max Payne 3 event. ‘Soon’ is all that was said. I doubt GI’s canvassing opinion on location for fun.”

That Max Payne 3 event could very well refer to the FirstLook event in October.

Could we possibly get an announcement or a sort of teasing in October this year? That would fit with a release in October 2012.

It just looks like the writer wanted to pad out his two-line article with a bit of dialogue. Look at it this way: 14 months is no one's definition of "soon."

It could happen at First Look, but it's not very likely that they would want to over-shadow MP3.

As for an announcement later this year: it's possible. But remember how confident everyone was about Gamescom? E3?

I don't get how GTA V announcement could overshadow Max Payne 3. If MP3 is coming March 2012 and GTA V sometimes later, there's no way people will tell themselves ”Oh, so GTA V is coming? Then let's forget about Max Payne 3 and wait 7 or 8 months after its release to get GTA V.”

Couldn't agree more. People who are interested in MP3 will get MP3 regardless of the information released about GTA V and vice versa. I personally don't think V will be announced this year though because I'm expecting an Oct 2012 release and an announcement coming in April/May (maybe E3?) with R* using a 5-6 month marketing campaign instead of the 1 year campaign they had planned for IV.

That is true, but regardless of that, Rockstar want maximum coverage for every single game they announce and release to bring in more buyers, that's just simple business. If GTA V was announced this month, when the MP3 trailer is just out, what news would be on gaming websites? GTA. It would be all sorts of analysis of whatever information they gave us, whereas there would just be an article below that of 'New MP3 Screenshot' or something.

I don't mean to say that MP fans will forget about it, I can be excited about several games at once like all those being released in November, but GTA is so overpowering that I think Rockstar will always tread carefully with it.

Agreed and since R* does like to focus on only marketing 1 game at a time I don't think we'll see an announcement until after MP3 ships. Was just trying to make the point that if they did announce V now with a logo, maybe a screenshot or two and a release date for 5-6 months after MP3, I don't see any way it would affect the sales of MP3.

it seems that the announcement of Max Payne 3′s March 2012 release points towards a release date for GTA V no earlier than holiday 2012.

That’s according to Cowen & Co. analyst Doug Creutz.

“With the announcement, we are increasingly convinced that we will not see the next Grand Theft Auto title until (at least) holiday 2012,” he wrote in an investor note.

“We doubt that Rockstar would launch two of its titles in close proximity to each other given the studio’s elaborate marketing campaigns and the likelihood that GTA could cannibalize sales from MP3 if launched in late spring.”

Also, for no apparent reason and seemingly with no facts to back him up, industry analyst Michael Pachter predicted that GTA V will sell around 18 million copies, if not more. Even if it releases right in the middle of the beginning of the end of the world. But the again, he told us all that NFS: Hot Pursuit was the best game he saw at E3 last year when we all thought it was absolute sh*t.

Another possibility is that R* could use a V announcement to help promote MP3.

"GTA V : October 2012... While you wait, check out Max Payne 3 to hold you over and give you a glance of what kind of technology to expect in the next GTA game."

Just a thought, who knows. confused.gif

Unannounced project at Rockstar North

I'm a game developer, by profession and hobby. Professionally I've tended to work in tools and as a result I have a certain love for pipelines, iteration times, workflow issues, and other related stuffs. smile.gif

I've worked on Just Cause 2, All Points Bulletin and an unannounced project at Rockstar North.

And BDW,

Is this our admin: Andrew? His avatar matches.

So what? Even IF he's an employee from R* north, it doesn't matter.

Anyways: I've tried to mix the numbers on the pictures name up a bit, but I didn't get a good result. Maybe someone else can try?

So, if he is works for R* and knows where and how GTA (Next) is, what's he doing here? I mean, he doesn't lock this topic because he knows this topic is IMPORTANT, or he's just laughing at us?? sarcasm.gif

I was referring to the possibility of V being announced at First Look, which was what was being suggested. First Look will be the first time MP3 is out in public after the trailer. Announcing V at the same time will take away some of the advertising "momentum" that will have built up by then. As Kirsty points out, were that to happen, MP3 would have to share the front page with new speculation about V, which is not what Take-Two or Rockstar want at the minute. Remember, they're not just after the people who already want the game, they're also trying to get through to the people who want the game but just don't know it yet. wink.gif

As I said, I'm hopeful of some GTA news before October, in a lull before the main advertising push for MP3, but the speed with which the first MP3 trailer is being released is making me think that maybe there's not going to be a lull.

Even if it's released on the last day of the month, all the units shipped to stores and online retailers before the release date count as March income to Take-Two. Stores will buy enough to not run out for a week or two if they can help it.

Using GTA IV again, as of August 16, 2008, 10 million copies had sold through to consumers. 10 million is less than the 11 million Take-Two had sold to retailers by May 31, so Take-Two had already made its money and retailers were still sitting on 1 million copies they'd ordered before May 31.  In other words, by the end of May, Take-Two had almost all the money GTA IV was going to make that summer.

I didn't think of that. So it's possible that the bulk of MP3's units for its first year would have been sold by the end of March? That's set my mind at rest for now. Thanks!

What do you mean by a "lull"

In dutch it means the one and only little saucage if you drop the last ''l'', but I doubt that's what he means ^^ So I go for wiki, Wiki says in economical terms Lull is a recession, so maybe he means a period with lack of news.

What do you mean by a "lull"

A period after the initial rush of information about the game but before the final previews. In this period there won't be any trailers or big magazine/website articles, there'll just be a steady release of screenshots and information. Maybe it's not going to be like this in the MP3 advertising campaign, though.
