I never expected it to be released during Take Two's 2012 fiscal year. I thought that it was going to be a kick-off title for 2013 fiscal year. Anyway, this may indicate that they are preparing to release a title later in 2012 or earlier in 2013, to be the first title from Rockstar for 2013 fiscal year. It's definitely going to be Agent or GTA V, but I will go with the first.

With MP3 off the FY 2013 calendar, GTA for fall 2012 is all but confirmed because nothing else can make the $2/share for FY2013 they've promised. Nothing else they can plan for anyway. GTA has to be on sale by fall to rack up those numbers before the end of the FY in March 2013. They need MP3 in FY2012 to show a profit for the year that otherwise has mainly L.A. Noire. GTA must be in crunch time right now and costing a fortune THIS year.

Agent is out of the picture till spring 2013 at the very earliest, more likely fall 2013, because a new IP is going to need a lot of marketing and that can't happen with other games, especially GTA, using all the oxygen.

Don't you think that other titles from Take Two such as Bioshock Infinite and Borderlands 2, combined with other AAA titles from 2K Games and Rockstar's Agent, are able to reach Take Two's estimate of 2$/share by the end of March 2013?

The thing is at the financial conference is that they expect to reach the high share during fiscal 2013, which runs from April 2012 to March 2013. This means they are releasing MP3 within the current fiscal year maybe to boost this years income because they didn't do that great with LA Noire alone, not as high as they reached with RDR anyway.

Even with MP3 and a couple of the 2K Games titles like Borderlands 2, there has to be another game later in the year to reach that high share.

Only GTA5 will get them $2 a share.

I wouldn't get too disapointed about a March release for MP3, for all we know, it could be open world, which would be a nice tease for GTA5 biggrin.gif

People don't realise this whole $2 a share thing.

Even Red Dead Redemption, which was pretty huge, only bought them to a little over $1 a share at the time.

So quite literally, a game would have to do at least twice as well as RDR to get to $2 a share. Only one franchise take two owns will confidentally do twice as well as RDR.

And we all know what that is..

If we haven't heard about V by the end of October, I'm guessing we won't hear about it till after MP3

Yeah i think similiar i dont really know when games are annouced but if it aint annouced before the end of the year then we wont hear an annoucment till after max payne 3.

The official first trailer for GTA IV was march 29 2007. The official release date was 16 october 2007. That's about 6 months difference. So, the most positive case would be a first GTA V trailer in (the end of) march or april 2012 and a release date of september or october 2012. I really hope Agent won't push GTA V back to 2013 angry.gif

i dont think we'll see Agent for a long time RDR took like 6 years right? They had no choice but to make another GTA and we know they been working on that since 08/09 we'll see what happens from here. Im excited for MP3 the screens look beautiful they keep updating and making things better i feel like the longer we wait for GTA V the better the product with no crazy ass delays

That is a chart about the hypothetical earnings/development costs of Max Payne 3. If i'm thinking right, it shows that if 9milion units were to be shifted, it would contribute $1.12 to Take Two's EPS (Earnings Per Share) assuming the development costs are correct at $105m (very high!)

We can extrapolate from this some info. If GTA5 is to reach the $2 mark, it would need to sell double MP3's top estimate, around 18m units. Which is possible - which means that GTA5's development budget can be estimated to be very similar to both GTA4 and MP3, $100m. Or, if they are predicted even higher sales, GTA5 must of had a smaller development budget, especially if the EPS is higher by the time GTA5 is released.

Im still shocked at $105m development budget, if that's right, its crazy.

On a different note, this is an interesting yet unsurprising point from the Max Payne 3 announcement press release: "as well as using a brand new iteration of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE)"

My suspicions were correct, RAGE is still a very much work in progress engine, and is improved for each game. We can definitely expect things to be turned up a notch both for GTA5.

I was only reading the figures off the chart about the EPS. Only the information about GTA5 estimates was my doing. So no, i certainly don't work in the industry. And judging by my low pass grade at A Level Maths (A Levels are the UK's non compulsary secondary education certificates) i'd say that was a good thing !

I wish i was good at it though, it's pretty interesting stuff - that and people working with stocks tend to be filthy rich biggrin.gif

I am doing a degree in Computer Games Programming though, Rockstar North here i come lol.gif

So if GTA V is coming, they would be expecting 3$ per-share?

It all depends. I really do not know much about this stuff, when they talk about $2 per share, i'm assuming they mean Earning Per Share.

$3 EPS seems very high. I'm not to sure what GTA4 got it to, i think it was about $2 per share, and given the larger install base of consoles now, i guess $3 EPS isn't totally unthinkable. If they are running off the back off a recent release of Agent when GTA5 is released, who knows, $3 might be possible.

GTA5 can generate a high EPS two ways, higher than expected sales (20million+ ?), or lower than expected development cost, meaning lower sales are needed to break even, and thus profit is easier to achieve.

You would probably make a bit of money. You might get lucky, the period around and prior to GTA4's release take two were trading at over double the share price that they are now. If GTA5 did that for them, you could double your money. Seems pretty unlikely looking at it right now though.

I get it. Since they have more series out now, 3$ PS has a better chance, which might mean no GTA for a while if their expecting 2$ per share which they can achive with weak pipelines.

I'd still say $2 is unachievable without GTA. That chart predicted at very best, MP3 would contribute $1.18 to the EPS.. so they'd then need another game also selling way above expectations to reach $2 EPS, and considering Agent is a new IP, it's not going to have the loyal following of millions like GTA/Read Dead/Max Payne.

One thing you can also expect, "GENESIS" will never die....even with Phil Collins retired now....oh, that too, but I meant, this thread.

Reason being is that if anyone stops by, they'd take more of an interest in threads with the most views, the most postings, even if this is conjecture still...

Don't expect this to really die into obscurity until something noteworthy REALLY breaks from Rockstar's GTA camp.

This means they are releasing MP3 within the current fiscal year maybe to boost this years income because they didn't do that great with LA Noire alone, not as high as they reached with RDR anyway.

As far as the OP goes, chances are we won't hear from him for a long time too, if ever. Whether he's an actual source or not, he'll want to lay low until people start getting ready for the game actually coming out, and forget how much of a let-down this thread was.[/quotes]

First, Red Dead Revolver had the success of LA Noire, one could think, comparatively speaking, not a clinical look at it, but Red Dead Redemption using Rage and Euphoria, the talk on the previous page about it being evolving, it's evident comparing GTA IV and RDR in the same development time frames, that being about 5 years each, on the long end. Given the time it takes, having more titles set to release, It's probably Take-2's plan to have titles come out without gaps, but not long stretches of time span.... I doubt they want to have to wait on any title, but they also need and want to take the time to get it to standards and the bars previously set.

RE: DeepT, with the comment I quoted, he's not going to think the same as someone not "clued in" and only guessing about the intended picture, it's either a joke, or meant to imply something, that much is obvious, but it could be that DeepT would prefer not posting a lot, otherwise people start to expect more about a person if they make it more obvious to tell if they're serious or not. Being tongue in cheek in tone I think, there's certainly some idea of humor in it all

Enough about Max Payne, you see? I just don't care for it, never been a big fan, I want GTA and GTA alone, well, RED DEAD RED to see another chapter, not just a nod at MP DLC, that's too little, think BIG, R*ockstar, B I G!!!

I'd still say $2 is unachievable without GTA. That chart predicted at very best, MP3 would contribute $1.18 to the EPS.. so they'd then need another game also selling way above expectations to reach $2 EPS, and considering Agent is a new IP, it's not going to have the loyal following of millions like GTA/Red Dead/Max Payne.

Agreed, no way they reach $2 shares without a GTA, RDR didn't even get them there. Also I don't see MP3 selling enough to bring them to $1.18 and by law it's illegal to purposely lie about share projections so they are definitely expecting something to at least bring them close to $2. Personally my prediction is end of April 2012 GTA announced and mid October 2012 release.

GTA series is R*'s main selling franchise. I think it would reach about 3 or 4$ If GTA V was released. Only if they give us what they want. After GTA V I expect Manhunt 3. or Bully 2. rahkstar2.gif
