lemuractionnews
I hate flying on this game and they make you fly ALOT.
lil weasel
Why is a question only Rockstar can answer. However, if you remove the flying from the game you would remove a good portion of the game. Flying skill can be developed by continueing to try. To some it comes to easily, others spend hours/days/weeks getting the ability, which is worth the while. One way to make it esier is to aquire a USB GamePad (such as Logitech Dual Action) to make play more like the console, and is recommended by Rockstar. Otherwise, use minimum touch of the buttons/keys to make the planes adjustment in flight. Get it moving, tap a key. Wait to see what it does and tap others as necessary. The exception is the Throttle key that may be necessary to hold in certain situations (like the flying school).
Username.gta
Am I the only person who likes flying in this game? Just thought it was a fun element to the game. But anyways, R* probably added flying to add variety to the game, rather than just driving all the time.
lil weasel
Right. I started with Vice City (PS2) I quickly got tired of Mafia who drowned when ankle deep in the water and all the driving.
Girish
How else would you make use of the vast open spaces in the map? They're perfect for flying.
namor
It's the flying that raises Vice City, Vice City Stories and San Andreas above GTAIII and LC.S for me. It gives me a sense of true freedom on the games. Helicopters or planes, I don't mind, although some of which are easier and more fun to fly than others. I missed the fact that you couldn't fly in a helicopter in LCS, although I did manage to "steal" oneduring a mission and it was fun seeing Liberty City from the air for a change. !!GC!!
Am I the only person who likes flying in this game? Just thought it was a fun element to the game. Not at all. I love it as well. Especially flying Hydras upside-down underneath bridges. That Frederick's Bridge still gets me every time though, and i dont know why
DarrinPA
The Fredricks bridge can be a pain. But I like a bigger challenge - The bridge in Tierra Robada, just east of the gas station in El Quebrados.

Do you mean under? Or through it? I can get through it fine upside-down, but under it would be a whole new challenge
DarrinPA
Under. Trust me, you'll want to practice it right-side-up because the sides of the bridge hang lower than the middle, so once you have past the first lower beam it's natural to want to gain altitude but unfortunatly that leads to crashing into the further beam. I'd suggest getting out and swimming under the bridge to get a good understanding of the architecture. I use the Xbox version, which I heard has better control, if you're on PC or Playsation it may be almost impossible. Almost impossible, you say.....? That sounds like a challenge to me! EDIT: Done. With 4 stars too , albeit bad quality and not really completed that well, but it was done. Got it on my second try....you can see the result of the first try sinking in the water Now to do it upside down! Btw, i did it without my wheels down like that. I hate people who do Hydra vids with their wheels down. I have no idea why the replay function showed that i had my wheels down when i blatantly didn't. When it exits from the replay, you can see that my wheels weren't down and i had no time to retract them... Edited July 13, 2011 by !!GameCH33TA!! Raptomex
Flying is excellent in San Andreas. At least I thought it was.

DarrinPA
I guess another asspect of why there is so much flying is the fact that San Andreas had stats, if there wasn't much flying missisons nor the flying school - the flying stat would be low for most people once they've ended thie game where as almost all the other stats are almost maxed out by then. As for GameCH33TA!! I have been trying to go under again while upside down and have been failing pretty badly. I just realized that I've been using a saved game that's only 60% flying skill. Mkae sure that when you're trying you have 100%. Why did you have 4 stars in that video? Is Las Venturas not open yet?
Username.gta
Yeah, it is always nice to improve your flying skill before trying out stunts like this. Probably why I find it tricky to even do simple stunts. XP And about the Wanted Level thing, either he hasn't unlocked LV or he flew over the Naval/Army base and lost a star from there on. Im fairly sure it will make no difference as to the way that the plane will handle or fly. Much like the "Driving Skill Stat". It doesn't make you a better driver, or make you crash less, its simply a way of telling you the amount of time thatyou have spent Driving/Flying during the game. Motorcycle and Bike skill is different because then you will have less chance of falling of your bike and can reverse at higher speeds, like it tells you when you "skill up". I was using a Chain Game save that was already loaded in my game. At that point, we hadn't opened LV.
lil weasel
I feel that the flying is merely something to do. In the olden days of RPG a good game took 40 or more hours to complete. If you were to elminate the Flying how long would it take to finish this Game? It took me a couple of weeks (4-8 hours a day) to finish that Flying School. Now, after all the practice it takes less than 20 minutes on a bad day.
LittleBlueTroll
I spent well over an hour once trying and failing to complete the "Learning to fly missions" Only to realise that i was trying to take off with the landing gear down After i cured that idiocy i loved flying, never forget the first time i took to the skys in a jet, just see the clowds rolling past me as i flew higher an higher...Then bailed out with a parachute! Good times.
