arsenal_fan
I think it is important, if the person makes an attempt and makes a few mistakes and has decent paragraphs (can't stand people who write in one big slab) then that is okay. People who are grammar or spelling nazis are just as bad as people who spell everyword in only 2-3 letters like 'plz' 'fk u' 'h8' etc.
LittleBlueTroll
The way people type or spell really doesn't bother me unless they shorten every word or write like this "Lulz wat da fuk dat game iz sh*t" If someone's made a few spelling mistakes here or there, or missed a comma, but they have tried to write like a normal person, that's good enough for me! Which is also why road signs (or at least British ones) have only the first letter capitalised, they realised that people find it easier to read words in lower case and therefore spent less time looking at the sign and more time looking at the road. hristobg
It's not much ontopic, but I want to ask you something. Because I'm not learning english, I want to know more. I want to understand all about past time and future time, these words "would", "should" and the kind of. Also, why some words in past time ends with "-ed", and some not? Like write - wrote. I can't understand that. Also, when I should add "-s" after the word? Is it only for plural and possessive? Or there is more? Help, please. Slamman
A Smiley is not a proper reply, at least judging from past things I've seen as "allowed" And as anyone knows by now, I got prompted to check my own spelling and then I took to pointing out the typos I observed, my own and others, and obviously, when you do that, people get all offended for no good reason, it's not really a personal attack, it's just constructive criticism
Mister Pink
I don't know whether it's bad form to bump this or not but I don't really want to start an 'annoying grammar' topic but feel the need to express myself. OK, I always make mistakes but some mistakes are just too obvious that it actually doesn't make the sentence have any sense. For example I often see people write; I could care less when they are expressing themselves that they don't care much about something. What does that mean? I could care less? - It's I couldn't care less. As in I couldn't care any less. I'm at the lowest point of caring, lol. I could care less means you care enough that you could care less, more! haha. Also then and than. Slamman, sorry dude but you're the worst culprit for this. Just remember Boston: More than a feeling. Then is a time when you will see someone or something. /rant. autotheftisgrand
I just hate it when people type like "$tOp tRy1Ng 2 [email protected] mY tXt u Cr1t1xxxx". This was a whole social phenomenon for teens and a few early 20's a few years back in the Philippines called "jeje" speak (jeje = hehe in normal texting). I know they based it off on Friendster and Myspace. It's so annoying that I wanna bludgeon them to death with a mace. God d*mn son, you're trying hard to look stupider than the average bear heh heh hey! On a side note: I had some classmates in college who have trouble writing complete sentences. I understand that maybe their education is sub-standard. What bugs me is that they don't have the initiative to learn it, they think it's a complete waste of time. I keep persuading them that knowing it is critical to have good career; but they're just pretty stubborn about it. El Zilcho
Writing properly shows intelligence and proper etiquette. Writing idiotically betrays stupidity and makes it harder to take you seriously. No it isn't impossible to understand but it certainly doesn't provide a good impression. I always try and write properly online, if anything it requires more effort to write like a retard and provides nothing of worth. Don't take pride in ignorance. GreatGig
Also then and than. Slamman, sorry dude but you're the worst culprit for this. Just remember Boston: More than a feeling. Then is a time when you will see someone or something. This one really irritates me, too. Not specifically Slamman, just in general. Although, I must admit that his abuse of the comma can make things a bit difficult to understand sometimes. Anyway, I get quite irate about the common and simple stuff that people make mistakes on. Fair enough, spelling some words can be a bit difficult for some, I get that, but if you're not sure it's right, go to Google and check. With spell-check being a feature in most browsers, there's no reason to make such stupid mistakes. One thing that really ground my gears the other day was a comment I saw on Facebook. The girl had just lost a family member and someone replied with "thinking off you". What the f*ck does that even mean? One additional "f" changes that sentence completely. I must admit that I have my own failings, too. One of them is using "lol" far too much. I don't do it anymore as I'm making an effort to stop it. Also, the spelling of "necessarily" always catches me out. Luckily, I have spell-check. @ El Zilcho: I completely agree, man. If someone sends me a message, a text or an email that isn't written properly, I don't bother replying. If they're too lazy to write like a normal human being, I'm too lazy to acknowledge them as one. Edited April 18, 2012 by TheGreatGig23

Rhoda
Do many of you say 'off of?' Sometimes, but only when I talk because I'm from the north of England and like to think it's because of that. I also drop certain words altogether - instead of saying "I'm going to the pub" I'll say what sounds like "I'm going pub". There's a silent "t" in there, so really if you're going to spell it (which you wouldn't unless you're writing a script for the next Wallace & Gromit production) it'd be "I'm going t'pub". I have a habit of turning our nouns into verbs too. Don't be surprised if I come out with "pubbing it".

I think it bothers HydralicWarrior the most. Then likewise when I'm in a hurry and don't quite understand what you meant due to bad punctuation, I'll merely ignore your post. For example: Steve likes shooting his family and his dog. Steve likes shooting, his family and his dog. Is Steve a sadistic bastard or a nice family guy who doesn't mind the odd firearm? MostOfAll
I believe that using good grammar on the Internet is both a way to reflect yourself in a positive light and a vital part of the etiquette when communicating with others. I've found it annoying and confusing when I read jumbled-up text, especially when the person doesn't even use periods. It takes a while to comprehend what they're trying to say. Show some class instead of intentionally trying to look uneducated. There was a time in middle school when I felt so out of place whenever I talked to my peers online. I used proper grammar, while the others typed with slang, incorrect grammar, etc. I felt like I should start typing incorrectly intentionally just to fit in. However, whenever I did that, I felt strange. Eventually, I decided to just stick with the way I usually type online -- with correct grammar. I think it bothers HydralicWarrior the most. It's not that I'm a grammar nazi or anything. It's just that you deliberately try to piss me off. So if you don't want to hear about your horrible spelling, I would suggest you refrain from flapping your jaw about me when given the opportunity. I'm here to discuss, not start a flame war, but if you wish to in any way degrade me with your words, I will do the same in return. You can either remember that next time or piss off, either way, I'm still here. Deal with it.
TreyCrll
I think as long as a person can get their message across that grammar doesn't really matter. The only thing I think is annoying is when people purposefully misspell stuff to make fun of other people who don't have great grammar. I'm not the most articulate person in the world but for some reason it pisses me off when I spell one word wrong and at least 3 different people are all, "Don't you mean this not that", like no one will know what I meant because I spelled a word wrong. Here's a cookie for pointing out my grammatical flaws
Slamman
Don't pause at a comma when it's typed, It doesn't mean you put a pause into your speech, it's not intended that way when I put one in, Anywho, it's not too important, BUT it is bothersome, use the EDIT button on your post and add that extra "o" to "TOO"
