Spider-Vice
The airport in GTA IV is always restricted for "strangers", per say. No matter how you go in, you'll always earn a 4 star wanted level. Racecarlock
Oh, you know. It was restricted for realism and sh*t. In the next game, you might also get to experience the thrills of prison, traffic laws, and a fuel system. Hooray!
radioman
Remember, Liberty City is modeled after New York (and New Jersey-for Alderney)-and remember New York was the site of the Terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001-and that the main character of the game is an immigrant-and remember in the opening mission, how Roman says the bridges are Closed due to terrorist attacks and how on Weazal News on ALL radiostations they talk about terrorist attacks a lot? So, because of this is why they made the Airport 4-star land, since it has aircraft there... No offense, but this is pretty common sense for anyone who knows their history...? However, the Airport IS NOT restricted in MP games....
Zyo
Yeah lets face it. If you stole a police car and smashed through some airport gates, then drove down the runway at 90mph while a 747 was trying to take off, the cops are unlikely to approve. 1st gtaROCKER
Well, imagine just strolling onto a runway in a busy New York airport in real life. The army wouldn't really approve, would it? For all they know, you could be an associate of Al Qaeda, ready to bomb a plane. Or you could be an innocent man lost in an airport, but they won't risk it. I guess this really answered your question. Airports in real-life are restricted to unauthorized vehicles. R* just added this realistic feature to the game. If you want to go in the Airport, go on a Party Mode or a Free Mode on Multiplayer. If other players annoy you, just make yourself a private game with cops off and chill. CheesyJ
Just think of it a bit like real life. Would the police and security simply sit there and give you a wave if you were to enter an airport? The answer is no, they would soon detain you for safety reasons.

The only difference is that one is considered a black site while the other allows people to pay for flights out of the city. But that still doesn't change the fact that driving onto the runway -- a place you don't have access to for a variety of reasons (safety, the fact that you don't actually work at the airport, suspicions of terrorist activities etc.) -- should not be ignored.
