FireproofFlare
Hi, this is my first mod topic here This mods applies a fake cartoon shader to SA's peds, making them look like a cartoon peds I was using a... let's say "bad way" to apply the effect. A download link is avaliable to download this way's conversions here: http://adf.ly/1zkxc Some progress screens: Also, if someone want to join "the team" (only one guy isn't a team ) just PM me Edited July 4, 2011 by WarPaz
riquenunes
It's a nice idea, but I think you should also give them a cartoon texture and re-work on the prostitute, she looks a little bit weird to me.
coin-god
I think the reason some of the black borders look odd is because he did not weld the model. If he does it should look better. But I think it's a good idea, nice work.
l911
Very nice it needs new texture but greate job with models Do you think about making all peds look like that ? It will be nice idea to make TC like that (whole SA in carton style ) it was somthing like that (Bad Day SA i think ) but its dead and they changed just txd's not models . edit: its possible to do shader like that to cars ? FireproofFlare
@henrique Yeah, I should see this @goin-god I've started to use 3DS a very bit time ago, so I'm seeing tutorials and trying to make things with my learnings. Can you link me a tutorial to this? @ludi911 I'll tried to make this but my game crashes D: if I can do any progress, I'll pm you
fishfinger
Hey man , it's good idea but stop doing this before the method doesn't working well . In fact , when i test it i used custom model take from games ( very strange mesh i have to fix , not the bunny one ) and i didn't test with gta models here the problem . I try first to fix the mesh of the black outline (for the hooker bfrypro i think ), so i copy the original and i work the verticles one by one . like this : go in vertex mode select double verticles with square selection and collapse them the result aplly the same method for all after a quickly fix for the normal invers and push attach to the original dff unmodified , its look like this in game : as you can see , the black outline work perfectly because they are a single mesh ( single verticles ) so the push method didn't f*ck them but the other effect of the method unsmooth the original dff and you can see it a lot when they are light on it . let see what happen from the begining : i import the original dff and by default the skin ( in modifier list ) is select : they are not smooth but when i select the editable mesh and click yes it become like this : alright , that what i want now the big problem is if i change one verticles or add push on the skin or other modification , the smooth is lost and i don't know why So you can fix it by aplly the collapsing method i used for the black outline on it but it doesn't seem right to me there must be a way to modify the dff without lost the smoothing effect but i don't know how Anyone ? (ps : i presume yours modified models do the same thing with the smooth tell me if they don't , it would be encouraging ) sorry for my english

Also, I think you cound use tesselation, but it cound crash Sa (poly limit =/)
coin-god
What? Do not use tesselation. Do what he said, weld the vertices thats good enough.

Yeah, I'm doing this now I just said him to use tesselation if he would keep the smoothing effect
fishfinger
The result with the collapsing method apply to all mesh : as you can see , that's better , the smooth work night and day , but it still bug ( rinnig mess ) and it's freaking long to do . I think the whole method have to be revisited . Just need to understand how the gta.dff mesh works and why it's unsmooth when modification . fishfinger
In my opinion , you should give up the idea of converting all peds with this method . Last screenshots i post are the best result that I managed to get and there still not perfect and especially , it take a lot of time for just one model . And i think ther is a big risk that gta will crash with all dff double in size . Maybe if we find a way to convert them without having to rework all mesh ( like i said upper ), it would be interesting to give it a shot . ( and even make a script for 3dmax to accelerate the work ) For the moment , i'm a noob in 3dmax and modelling and i don't understand all part of modelling mesh and gta material so i can't say if it's possible or not to make it simple . An other thing is disturb me is the whole idea to convert ped of gta san . I think the result will be not that great with the non-pixelshader environement . Maybe a smaller and a more cartoon map ( and cartoonest character like someone said ) will be more appropriate and interesting . In conclusion I would say at this time it's a lot of work for an average result and it could not work well (crash) . Sorry for you and my english . FireproofFlare
I wish someone did this outline thing for whole SA Is that a plugin? Only way to do it in whole SA (too hard to convert all models )
