d00d
They were disabled once, now I think they're enabled for a random selection of users. Keep your eye out eh.
Claude4Catalina
Face it, Facebook, while not nearly as bad as Myspace was before everyone ditched it, is turning to crap. As soon as they started integrating games and "apps" it took a huge dive down with people adding random people and completely destroying what the point of the site was. Instead of being social with people you are actually social with, it turned it into a place where parents can stalk you, random people or friends/family post stupid sh*t to your wall (spam/ads/game invites, etc), and so on.Not to mention privacy issues left and right, lack of control over what is brought to you when you sign in... Google+ gives you all of those abilities in from what appears to be a better interface. the revolution will not be Facebook'd! pretty much everything of value I have to say about this thread, sounds like a good idea on paper but in rather than rely on the good side of the story, do better to wait to try it to pass judgement. ska
Got an invite sent out to me last night, although I haven't received it yet due to Google disabling them for a short period of time. I'll gladly send out invites though once I get my account, just shoot me a PM.

makeshyft
Everyone seems to be down on the way Facebook is integrated with other websites/apps, but I think it's a massive convenience. Let's say I download a few game apps for my phone, all which require a username and password for login. I could go through the whole process of that horsesh*t, or, hang on, sign in with my Facebook account? One click? Done. Just make sure you don't allow the app to post sh*t to your newsfeed (which most of the apps I grab don't do anyway).
Pico
FB integration with other services has become pretty great. I got approval on my invite today, have my account set up. But, it looks like Google has completely disabled invites from even being sent out now, not just disabling the accepting of invitations. That means all the little tricks people have been doing to get invites out to people won't even work. So in the meantime, it looks like most people will have to wait and see if they do another wave of invites. When that does happen, I'll keep this thread in mind with the remaining invites I have left. As for the service itself... can't say too much! I've got no friends with it right now, as seems to be normal for most except those who got in very early on. The set up is straightforward for the most part, although navigating the site is taking some getting used to. Privacy settings are pretty easy so far. The one thing I don't like is that if you want to make yourself searchable for people to find you, you're slightly limited on what you can have visible to just the Circles you select. Some stuff is just completely open (your photo, full name, and gender). Circles seem like an awesome idea, but I see them making things a little difficult. When you go to "Share what's new..." (G+ talk for a wall post), it allows you to select what circles. The toughest part I see about this is remember who's in what Circle. I know if I had all few hundred of my FB friends on G+, I'd get lost and likely just end up using a Circle that contains everyone. The other issue I see with Circles is the unintentional decrease in activity. If people limit their Circles too much, it'll make things pretty boring. The key for them to work is for people to remember to post things that will interest a large portion of their friends, or at least post enough things from time to time for different Circles. If everyone sticks to posting things that are only visible to 1 or 2 Circles of a handful of friends, it won't make the site interesting. It'll basically be an email style chat room. Of course, the benefit is you can post vulgar, dirty, or just plain retarded sh*t and not go through a bunch of clicks to avoid certain people, such as siblings, parents, grandparents, little cousins, etc, from seeing it. It's really just down to the easiness of it's application.
ChanandlerBong
http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-200758...pals-to-google/ This method worked for a few of my friends last night, if you want to PM me your gmail address I'll gladly try and invite you. No promises though.
Pico
I tried the "share a post" trick last night with some friends, didn't seem to work. They didn't get any email. But one friend clicked a link afterwards and it worked for him. I'll test it out with some other friends and see what happens.

Mainland Marauder
That response was made well before any information on the service could be understood, MM. I admit that my initial reaction to this has in part to do with the total load of crap Google Buzz was. I'll check it out though, especially the photo stuff. I messed with Picasa for a bit and didn't like it much, but I suppose it doesn't hurt giving something a try. I do have to admit I'm still not that huge on Facebook's changes. Barry Spock
I'm up for it if anyone's got an invite. What they need to do is strike a balance where the concept isn't so weird that no one can understand it (apart from l33t techies) and so somple that your granma will be using it by next year. I never started facebook and I'm glad I didn't. What I'd like to see is the 'hangout' bit take off. We're rapidly getting to the point where there needs to be a viable alternative to skype. It was going downhill in regards to userfriendliness long before M$ bought it. Every update makes it more annoying to use, every bit of news about it points to it being run by Nazis. leik oh em jeez!
Me and a friend just came up with an idea shockingly similar to the whole "circles" thing last month. I just got us a server last week, he's still working on buying hard drives for it, and his uncle was buying us a domain. So I'm a little annoyed with google right now. Straznicy
I think I'll namedrop this with my mates next time I see them. People I know seem to be abandoning Facebook, which hardly surprises me. Like people have said already, there's so much crap on it these days that it seems far removed from its initial concept. I started a tumblr last month, and while I'm enjoying it, it's difficult to utilise it for the reason you'd use something like Facebook. Maybe this thing could be a viable replacement. Pico
I think i found a way to get invites to work. PM me with your gmail asap if you'd like to get in on it. Tornado Rex
Hopefully they'll start letting some of us invite again soon. Kirsty
I remember all the excitement and desperation for invitations for the last few of Google creations like Buzz and Wave. They were such an anti-climax so I'm reserving my judgement until I see this, it looks interesting though. Either way, I applied for an invite a couple of days ago. Does this so called 'capacity reached' stop people who are already in sending invites?
ChanandlerBong
Google just announced that they're opening up invites properly again for a while so if anyone wants one PM me your email address ASAP
Girish
I think G+ might have just gone public (for a short while, maybe). Both ChandlerBong and Pico sent me invites but I didn't get any, so I decided to just load up G+ and it allowed me to join directly. Edit: Apparently, the invites were only for me to add them to my circle. Just saw them now.
Pico
Hmm, weird you never got the email. It's started showing the option to invite when I add an email now, but nobody is getting the emails. Girish
Just confirmed with one of my friends. He was able to join without any invites. So, I think it's gone public. Just log in using your gmail addy.

Pico
Ok, well I guess you all can keep PMing me your Gmail accounts and I'll do my best to invite you. I've had some get the invites, some not get them at all, some able to get in after I share a post with them then them clicking this link: https://plus.google.com/?gpinv It could all just be a coincidence with everyone getting in that hasn't gotten a direct invite.
