Rhoda
Don't Count Your Chickens Eminence is away this week solving shark related crimes, so he's asked me if I could post his topic and not make a complete hash of it. So, here it is, July's edition of the Short Story Of The Month competition. Congratulations to him too his winning entry August, which is currently pinned. Right then, onwards. Once again, pieces can be as short or as long as you want, but bear in mind that either extreme may impact negatively on how it's received. A guideline would be anywhere around 750-1000 words. Entry is open until Friday 22nd July. After that we'll open a voting topic for people to choose their favourite. Simply post your work in a new topic and label it as an SSOTM entry. Xboxless
I definitely need to give this a try!
Rhoda
To me, the themes are just getting better and better.
Tyler
I'll give it a go this month, Craig. I've been meaning to sit down and write for a while now. Good theme, man.
Mokrie Dela
I'm also gonna try to squeeze some time to do this The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry
Rhoda
Thank Phil for the theme. He took time out from making a necklace from a freshly drugged shark jaw to pick it.
Shayan Shaffey
I made my entry, it is my first time! I'm excited to see what happens!
Shayan Shaffey
Imgur is censored in Iran, so I can't see that theme, is there anyother way to access it?
Rhoda
Well, the theme itself is Don't Count Your Chickens, you don't really need to see the picture, it's just a visual guide to help. It's just a bunch of eggs with numbers on them. Now that I think, you've already entered once and you're in the process of revising it. Your last entry had nothing to do with counting chickens! It has to be about counting chickens?! I am so sorry, I didn't get that, I guess I'm too stupid to be a writer sorry
Rhoda
It's fine, you're not too stupid, just a bit of miscommunication. You don't have to follow it literally. In fact, some of our previous winners twisted the theme to suit a story that you wouldn't have thought could fit. It's about taking the theme and using your imagination, really. If you want to know what I mean, have a look at this month's winner and other topics. As it happens, I think this is the most amount of replies we've had in a SSOTM theme topic... EDIT: Also, I suggest you take a few days to work on it rather than just belting it out. You can really tell the difference. Rhoda
Double post, big woop, want to fight about it? How's everyone doing with this month's theme?
Tyler
I tried a literal take on the theme and attempted to write comically, but I am so bad at it. Honestly, I'm surprised I could even bear re-reading it
Vercetti21
I really like this theme, but I'm having trouble deciding on how I would want to approach it.
Vega LVI
Mine will be posted later on today. I also have one question: Is it a problem if my short story is about 1,060-1,070 words long?
Rhoda
Shouldn't be a problem. The first time we introduced this game, the guideline length was around 800-1000 and my first entry of this particular SSOTM was around 900 words. I doubt a few extra lines will put anyone off.
