WhistleBlower
If I'm remembering correctly, this was the case for Red Dead Redemption and it had a map that was twice the size, if not more (because it certainly felt bigger), than San Andreas. So this shouldn't be a problem for the next GTA, right? GTA IV had a highly-detailed city but the fact that the windows still looked like paintings (albeit glossy for added effect) kind of bugged me. I did enjoy the dynamic lighting and all that stuff but that's a different story.
Kirsty
This would be a nice addition for detail. LA Noire had excellent shop windows and stuff, you could actually see items inside them instead of the painting style as you described. We just have to remember in terms of graphical detail, GTA IV is probably classed as 'old' now if you compare to recent and upcoming games. I'm sure the realism will be set to a much higher bar for the next game.

Yes!! agreed. if it were GTA, i would hope they would make it so you could smash into these shop windows and run off with the sh*t

But yes, it would be nice, they could probably get away with only doing windows closer to the ground with more detail if they need to. GR7
Not going to happen transparent windows basically mean they have create rooms for every floor on every building. The reason they pulled it off in RDR was due to the fact there were hardly any buildings around. Not sure this deserved a thread .
K-Malo94
yea i agree but keep in mind IV was released a quite while ago and games now are way more detailed. on the other hand RDR (as huge as it was) didn't have that many buildings so imagine having to create that many interiors for an entire city (that will hopefully be twice as big as Liberty City next time). there would be a lot of copied interiors that would all look the same. Ernesto Aragon
The map in RDR may be a lot bigger than the San Andreas' map, but is also emptier. The windows from GTA series are always just images, and even if people don't pay much attention to them, it is something they should change. I hope Rockstar do the same thing they did in L.A. Noire's buildings. I can't say for sure if it is posible or not, but it seems plausible. Sorry for my english!

That's why I mentioned the reflective windows, especially for skyscrapers, you know what I mean?
Snake Without a Tongue
I've been playing my free copy of the first Infamous (thanks hackers). The graphics are crap compared to GTAIV, but the building facades look really great up close. I'd love to see better looking building fronts, maybe some shattering glass in the next GTA. You should check out inFamous 2 then. It blows the first one out of the water.

Proud Fool
They wouldn't have have to make rooms because they could just put curtains to allude to a room. I want to see the Protagonists reflection in the car window too before I smash it.
Magic_Al
L.A. Noire's shop windows look great but are repeated a lot because of the massive size of the city, much larger than GTA IV. Although GTA IV used flat images of windows, I think there was more variety of images and more real-world messiness like in a photograph, so in a way the GTA IV scenery looks more interesting if less realistic up close. L.A. Noire also has "2-and-half-D" windows that simulate depth as you walk past a fake window -- this is used a lot in police stations for non-enterable offices and it's a neat trick. Duxfever
Even though GTA IV used images for various door and windows, I still find myself thinking they were real and would try to enter the building. The thing with RDR was that there were no reflections on mirrors. I don't think there were reflections at all in the game. But with L.A. Noire having reflections, I can['t] even imagine what GTA V with reflections ---- Rainbows on the glass...

Long_Haired_Boy
GTA V should allow us to roll down our windows and drop the top on sport cars like in Midnight Club LA. Also bringing back the on screen water effects.!

Can you provide a picture because I don't quite understand what you mean by "2-and-a-half-D" windows? A picture won't show it, you need to see it in motion. Instead of the window being just a 2D picture of a fake interior, in L.A. Noire there is a translucent texture of privacy glass, and behind that a 2D image simulating an interior, and the engine displays that image behind the glass with simulated parallax as your angle of view changes, so when you walk by or move the camera you get an impression of there being 3D space behind the glass when there actually isn't. It's not convincing when you really look at it but it's a nice illusion and much less fake looking than fake windows in GTA IV.
Ardee
Considering the amount of time everyone's waited for GTA V I expect every building to have interiors. > Hah, but yes. LA Noire styled windows. The game is clever in that department, amongst others. Like in the police stations, the illusion of having a fully furnished room is done by having the glass frosted to obstruct view -something you'd see in real life. But after camera manipulation, the 'room' is nothing but an plane behind the frosted glass. Actually, a lot of buildings in LA Noire do this. The residential ones in particular, but instead use clear glass with curtains or blinds to cover up the 'interior'. Surprisingly this adds plenty of immersion to gameplay, even when driving. Gives it that more realism. Keep it mind that game has 100+ actual interiors, and the map is R*'s biggest so far. So yeah, I hope R* would do something like that; and most like would. Who knows, maybe every building would have interiors. Let's hope.
