Cal Hooper
When I installed the game, it launched fine but was really slow. I decided to try to patch the game. I downloaded the Grand Theft Auto IV Patch 7 -- Title Update v. 1.0.7.0 English from http://support.rockstargames.com. After the patching, when I try to launch the game, I get the Social Club screen and two options: Play(offline) and Play. When I click either of those, the screen closes, the DVD starts spinning and the mouse pointer changes in to a disc. A few seconds later, the pointer gets back to normal, DVD stops spinning and nothing happens. The game does not launch. After the update, I have no way of launchinf the game. I've tried to reinstall it, but it doesn't help. My computer is HP G62 Notebook PC AMD Phenom 2 N830 Triple-core processor (3CPUs), ~2,1GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM DirectX 11 Screen: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Is there any way you people could help me with this? Does the patch make the game go faster? According to some tests, I've understood that GTA 4 should work ok on my machine.

mkey82
Do you have any disk emulation software installed, like daemon tools? Try reinstalling the vc++ libraries from the game disk.
Cal Hooper
I read from some older post, that the patch 1.0.4.0 would be most optional performance-wise. Is that true? Is it possible that 1.0.7.0 would make the performance even worse?
mkey82
It depends on the system and the settings.
Cal Hooper
How about with a system like this HP G62 Notebook PC AMD Phenom 2 N830 Triple-core processor (3CPUs), ~2,1GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM DirectX 11 Screen: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 What do you mean by settings? The graphics settings in the game, such as resolution?
mkey82
You have to test it out. Usually, with lower quality shadows you manage to even out the performance, though some people have a lot lag going on on patch 7.

mkey82
Remove daemon tools. vc++ libraries are on the game disk in the redistributables folder.
