GregoryDelaey
Hi, I'm going to buy a new graphic card. But I just can't choose. My budget is about €150, it's not much but yeah. €200 if it's really needed. I already have 2 cars in mind, a 460GTX OC or a SAPPHIRE HD5850 TOXIC. Which one off these is the best or are there any other good graphic cards for this price?
OverTheBelow
The 5850 is on average slightly faster than the 460, so I'd go for that. It's probably the best you're going to get in this price range.

YankeesPwnMets
What are the rest of your specs? What computer do you have? The new graphics card is useless if the rest of your computer is too weak
GregoryDelaey
2.5Ghz dual core E5200 (sorry, can't overclock) 3GB ram (800mhz if i'm right) 1360x768 monitor 600W PSU I had a 8800gt alpha dog edition, but it broke. YankeesPwnMets
Buying an new graphics card would be useless if you have that POS processor
GregoryDelaey
what would you recommend me then? My mobo has a 775 socket..
unc13bud
the cheapest socket 775 quad core is $149 the 8800gt isnt bad for gta IV, i have a 512mb pny 8800gt that i was using for gta IV after i swapped out my hd 4850, cpu was 64x2 6000+ if you could get a gts 250 or 450 for sub 60 euro, i would say get that
GregoryDelaey
I have 3 carts in mind, which of these 3 would be the best performance/price? GIGABYTE GTS450 OC2 €120 EVGA GeForce GTX550 Ti SC €140 MSI N460GTX OC €
Exxon
I think that the GTX 460 is the best card of those, but I'm not sure.

GregoryDelaey
'this thing' is a new pc from hp, which my dad bought me september 2010. It's too new to get rid of it. Think I'm going for a HD5770 (mayba vapor x). It costs just €100 at the moment.
ralphdsm
in 2010 that was a new pc only cause they havent sold it(that perticular box). my iphone is probably stronger than thing. i dont mean to sound like an asshole or burst your bubble but get yourself something current. YankeesPwnMets
2.5Ghz dual core E5200 This is too slow for a modern graphics card. You get what you paid for and it's your issue that you bought outdated parts. If you still insist on buying a new card the GTX 460 is better then everything else. YankeesPwnMets
600W PSU What model HP computer do you have? Note: Just saying "Pavilion" or "Compaq Series" or anything like that doesn't help at all
GregoryDelaey
I dunno wich one, i know i swapped out the stock intel celeron @ 2.2ghz out for this 2.5ghz E5200, because I got this processor for free from a friend. I also swapped the stock psu which was 300watt out for a psu from tybotech 600watt. I already ordered a hd5770 which was in a discount. I'm planning to buy a quad core processor soon. But don't know which one.
YankeesPwnMets
I think your E5200 is better performer then any Celeron. For Intel, here is the general rule: Celeron < Pentium < Core 2 Duo < Core 2 Quad < Core 2 Extreme < Core i3 < Core i5, Some Xeon models < Core i7, some Xeon models Edited July 1, 2011 by YankeesPwnMets
GregoryDelaey
thx for the info! since i'm stuck with a mobo with a 775 socket, the best processor i'm able to install is a quad core, intel q series. thx for all the help, i hope the hd5770 will perform a bit better then my old 8800gt alpha dog. may he rest in peace

unc13bud
I also swapped the stock psu which was 300watt out for a psu from tybotech 600watt. according to google, that power supply is not highly regarded? what is the ul number on the side of the power supply? http://www.tybotech.com/paginas/product-cases.htm who exactly makes your power supply? and just how did the 8800gt die? i am starting to question here... still voting for the gt 240 (or better, a cheap 9800gt) for this particular machine
GregoryDelaey
Sorry, made a mistake it's a 400W tybotech this one replaced the standard 300W hp I already ordered a hd5770 which was in a discount. I had the 8800gt since 2009. Sometimes stripes appeared. I cleaned it several times and reinstalled the drives etc, no succes. I saw a person with the same problem on this forum. YankeesPwnMets
The 400 watt is very borderline for a Radeon 5770. This is why you need to actually open your PC and look instead of giving us details from memory. My guess is the power supply is too weak
unc13bud
im thinking that power supply is not only borderline, its worse than the original 300w, especially if its as bad as a diablotek, deer, or lc power supply
GregoryDelaey
The model number is UT-400U-FCE. Is that a good one or not?
YankeesPwnMets
Can you give pictures to identify the power supply? Their site doesn't even bother to list models, only the pictures. The power supplies don't have a 80PLUS rating anywhere else, so its a pretty good sign your power supply isnt very efficient http://massinfo.be/TyboTech/Datasheets/Cas...er-supplies.pdf
GregoryDelaey
It's the one with the 8cm fan on the back. the third one. Is that a bad sign? EDIT: thanks for your help so far, and sorry for all the mistakes, my english isn't that good.
unc13bud
yah, give us a pic of the label so we can look up the ul number for ourselves... all google finds with that model number is stuff about the university of tennessee basketball team.
YankeesPwnMets
I'm 99% sure that thing is less then 80% efficient. In a gamer PC, the PSU should be at least have a 80PLUS rating. Get something like a XFX Pro Core edition 550 Watt Power supply. XFX makes pretty good power supply that won't break your bank as well. Can you list good electronics sites that ship to wherever you live and we could help you from there
GregoryDelaey
» Aerocool » Antec » be quiet! » Cooler Master » Corsair » OCZ » Sharkoon » Thermaltake » Trust » XFX » Zalman *EDIT: The XFX Pro Core Edition 550Watt is available @ €60. Kinda cheap compared to some others. Edited July 6, 2011 by GregoryDelaey
