simplestarwarsfan
Ok. Here's the deal. I know that the old 'what graphics card should i get for gta iv' thing has been answered many times. But 1) tech info is time sensitive and 2) not everyone happens to have $2000 laying around. To the point. I am looking for a good value graphics card that has a decent GPU in it (able to run GTA IV and other games at around 25 to 30 FPS) for under $200 (200 being the very max). Also I have been told that a Quad Core CPU is sufficient for most gaming purposes, just want to double check so... is this true? I also am aware of the comptibilty issues assosiated with the Power Supply and Motherboard but I do know a guy who can get those questions answered (just for kicks I currently have a Asus M2N68-AM PLUS with a 420w PSU). I have been looking around a bit myself though... so do these sound any good? AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition XFX HD-679X-ZNFC Radeon HD 6790 Any advice would be great guys. YankeesPwnMets
Your motherboard won't support that processor. What are the rest of your specs? Can you maybe get $750-$850 for a new decent computer?
funtikar
also at what setting of the game you want it to have 25-30fps. medium, high, maxed out... Edited June 29, 2011 by funtikar
simplestarwarsfan
Right. Thanks for that. How about this one: AMD Phenom II X4 820 Deneb I know it says 'Deactivated' but I can still get it. About the rest of what I currently have, 4gb of Ram (thinking about getting another 2gb for a total of 6), AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition, and MSI R4550-MD1GH Radeon HD 4550, running Windows 7 Ultimate. The plan was/is (not sure if I have a choice) to get a barebones kit with that (Phenom II X4 820) CPU included, swap into mine and put the old Duel Core into that one. Then take my old Graphics card, put it in that new one (none included in the kit) and buy a new better card for mine. The new one is just for general use ... so.. meh. I'm a bit in a pickle. Somebody posted a new reply before i was done typing , yes maxed out is the goal, hopefully.
OverTheBelow
You aren't going to max the game with a 4550. I'd barely expect it to run low settings with a fair framerate, depending on your screen resolution. The 6790 is much faster than the 4550. mkey82
To put things simply, in all probability, you're not going to be able to max out GTAIV on a tight budget.

(oops, look like they sold out of the 768 mb temporarily) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...0-597-_-Product you won't max it out depending on the resolution used (as others correctly posted), but it will look good enough that you won't care amd phenom chips may drop a little more soon, but i'm not sure. That CPU don't come with a HSF, put in a decent HSF and it's near to the Phenom II X4. Core i3 on the other hand is faster than both of them, but it cost a bit more. Too bad it's a dual core with 2 virtual to make a "fake" quad. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/displ...00_5.html#sect0
YankeesPwnMets
He's gonna need a new motherboard to buy a Core i3 @starwarsfan: Your motherboard is an AM2 board, and the good AMD CPUs that are sold today are all AM3 or AM3+ If you upgrade this, it won't really be worth your money. simplestarwarsfan
This what I feared. Alright how about this, what would you guys recommend in terms of a Motherboard, CPU, and Graphics Card? Keeping in mind that I am not made of money (i.e. make it the best value stuff, possibly even a barebones kit). You guys see if you can help me make a nice list and I will think about it and go over terms with the family. Thanks for your help so far.

To be honesty they waste money get a LGA 775 crossfire board. And get pentium dual core 3.4 ghz.Get a Sapphire ATi 5670 x2.Then at least 4 gb ram. Then you can have maxed out.My specs are great for budget let these nabs waste.

Seriously, you need to find the cash for this and you won't ever need to upgrade or buy another PC for a good 5 years. Sorry to say, but that luckymanhog guy has his head so far up his ass because he won't admit he wasted his money buying that outdated computer - here he prowls the forums to try and cause others to make the same mistake as he did. Rule #1: One good card is ALWAYS better than two mediocre cards in crossfire for a mid-range PC (meaning 1x 5830 > 2x 5670) due to inconsistent drivers and performance etc. Rule #2: LGA 775 dual cores and quad cores are not worth the money! They are overpriced to sh*t these days because it's a dead platform. i3s & i5s are much better value and offer more performance. YankeesPwnMets
GTA IV only uses one card even though you have a Crossfire configuration like mine or an nVidia SLI configuration. A single 5670 won't be able to be even close to maxing out the game unless your running at a 1024 x 760 resolution

Stinky12
^ Totally forgot he can still use his old HSF, but what is the point of doing so. If he is to buy the Athlon X4 for the sake of saving, he might as well get the PII X4 which still comes with a HSF. OverTheBelow
That benchmark is completely fake, and even then it is still not maxed out. Seriously, do you think you have a big e-peen because you can lie about your settings and framerate or do you actually think we believe those results are completely legit? According to your benchmark results, the game is only using 400mb of your 1GB video memory and less than 1 core of your dual core processor. I really doubt that on those settings. Take a screenshot of the results screen, maybe then I will believe you. Till then, stop bullsh*tting because it's only pissing everyone off. Out of curiosity (just to make you crash & burn) I did a benchmark on the exact same settings & sliders on patch 4 using -norestrictions and here's what I got: http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/555/gtaiv...63011422057.png As you can see, the game uses almost all of my VRAM, more than two times more system RAM than yours and two cores+ of my overclocked Nehalem processor. Presler (your CPU architecture) is much slower clock for clock vs Nehalem. In conclusion: your result is 100% bullsh*t. [end rant] p.s. no way in hell are you going to get that processor to 5ghz without destroying it in a week because of overvoltage.
