Reminders

How much do mods take these into consideration? I know warnings/temp bans will probably lead to them being much less lenient, but how much do they actually care about reminders?

I did learn from mine by the way

We take account of all warnings in the warn log. This is the way the warning levels go:

Reminders: Minor infractions, double posting, minor spam and first occurance of this.

Verbal Warnings: Repeated occurance of infractions, flaming, warez etc

Temporary Ban: Extreme flaming, repeated infractions.

Full Ban: Don't listen, or have committed forum suicide.

Generally the process starts with reminders, unless the staff member feels it warrants a verbal warning.

I think warnings are much more common.. Plus, I've gotten verbal warnings before I ever got a reminder, and they where for things like accidently bumping a topic and one was for a post that happened to not add anything (even though it was a reasonable length)..Shouldn't those be reminders?

As we've said before, it depends on the staff member and if you've caught them in a bad mood. However they will also review your post history and determine a suitable level through them.

They're in a bad mood and I suffer the consequences? That seems a little unfair...How about a commendation or two and we'll call it even? rolleyes.gif

The rules are clearly posted, we're here voluntary to help run the boards, and in doing so we incur a lot of sh*t, stuff that we shouldn't have to put up with. And if you can't follow the rules, well then its tough luck. But only you and staff can see your warn log, so there is no need to worry. Since we also take the date of the last warning into account as well.

Yes Andrew, and here they are

• No pornography (linking to or directly posting any media containing nudity or sex)

• No warez/piracy (linking to, requesting or discussion of illegally obtaining copyrighted material)

• No advertising (a link in your sig is fine, but posting a topic about your site or PM'ing members with links to your site is not). Referral links of any nature also fall under this category.

• No flaming (Antagonistic, slanderous, racist, or sexist comments will not be tolerated)

• No 'ripping' (stealing other people's work and claiming it as your own; be it sig images or game mods)

• There is an edit button to stop double and triple posts, so please use it.

• Signatures must be of a reasonable size (click here for guidelines and details)

• No impersonating forum staff, other members, or Rockstar employees. In other words, no making fake accounts with other people's names.

• Never open multiple accounts, unless you have a legit reason. Members found using multiple accounts to abuse the forums will be taken care of appropriately.

Oh my Andrew, it doesn't even mention basics like, don't bump topics. Furthermore, things like don't post "macro images" isn't on there. Now maybe if everyone had forum experience before they got here, they wouldn't have to worry about that because they would know, but the ones that don't are branded with a warning because some mod felt pissed.

This post seems to be more aggressive then I intended it to be, and for that I'm sorry, but I am making a point...

Majority of our rules are common sense, and if people read the forums before posting they'd figure out how it works pretty damn quickly. You've got to look at it this way as well, reminder doesn't sound serious or anything to take serious, now a verbal warning, now that sounds more serious.

Actually the last time I saw someone bump a topic and be disciplined for it was quite a while ago. So I don't think some random browsing could have solved that one.

But earlier you said reminders should come first? Which way do you want it?

Again, I'm not trying to argue in a hostile way, I just have questions and points and I want to know why I'm wrong, or maybe, if I'm even wrong at all.

Generally that is the idea behind the system, start with reminders unless the infraction is serious enough to warrant a warning. However it depends on the staff member involved, each staff member has different tolerance levels of what they deem a reminder, and what they deem warning worthy.

But if it's up to the individual's preference then the system has no meaning. Someone can just through out temp bans for double posting. Granted, it's not very likely, but if all these mods seem to lean towards verbal warnings anyway, reminders are a memory. Shouldn't this be more organized?

Not really, the current system works. If you don't break the rules or annoy the staff then you've nothing to worry about.

Annoying the staff? I think that should be put in the rules topic if an Admin like yourself is so happy with saying it will get you warned.

Let's say someone double posts, a logical response would be to give them a reminder, if that. But because a mod is having a bad day someone gets a verbal warning. It just makes no sense.

Why can't there be a clear definition for what each infraction is punished with? That way overly strict moderators don't crack down too hard, and the forum still runs clean.

For example-

Double post would get you a reminder

Extreme flaming would get you a temp ban.

If you take the punisher's preference out of the equation things would be so much more organized and more importantly fair.

I believe he was using a form of expression. Annoying the staff means that you're breaking rules, more than actually annoying them.

Honestly, why even whining about it if it clearly states in the rules

Remember, you are a guest on a free service. Our moderators and admins reserve the right to remove you from GTAForums at any time for any reason. You have no rights and may make no demands.

You "annoy" a moderator, break the rules, get them in a bad mood and you get warned more easily as stated by Andrew above. Moderating a forum with so many people at the end of the day makes someone tired and moody, I guess.

Sam lets put things into perspective shall we?

We can have up to a 600+ members online at any one point.

We can receive 100+ reports a day

Only a handful of staff are ever on at any point.

It can take time to deal with reports and issues, it took me 2 hours at one point to clean up after a spamfest.

We come on this forum to post and enjoy things, we don't come on to get bombarded by idiots that cannot follow common sense; and as such we might not be in the best of moods, especially if we've already had to spend a considerble amount of time dealing with something else.

Well tell me how the report feature works cause i use it almost all the time.

Sometimes it just refreshes the page.

Once a post has been reported once, anyone else who tries to report it will get the message saying "Thank you. This post has already been reported". No matter how many times people click the report post button for the same post, we'll only ever get one report which is the original report for that post.

Click here to see the post yourself. Hope this helps. icon14.gif

You need to click on the 'Report Post' text, not the arrow right of it.

Yeah, so I thought I'd post here rather than make a new topic for a simple query. A while ago my account was compromised and had to be banned, the full ban notice has been removed from the warn log but there is still a reminder which was for "spamming the PM report thread." Since this reminder was not given when I was controlling my account would it be possible for it to be removed since I don't like looking at it. smile.gif

Thanks a lot.

Then don't look at it. tounge.gif

IIRC, removing stuff from the log would require someone with FTP access and only a select few admins have access.

Warns are saved in the SQL database, just like any other member info, not to do with FTP. Nothing is saved in the forum's php files, just in the mySQL server, and dosn't IPB 1.3 have a See Warn Logs option in the ACP to see the latest logs of any member? In IPB 2, if you remove any of these "logs", the member will have its warn deleted.

In that case, I didn't recall correctly. tounge.gif

Also, considering how heavily the ACP is modified over here, one can't be sure about it. Better wait for an admin to come by and provide some insight.

The warnings and anything are probably only able to be removed via the SQL.

You quoted the General Rules from the Announcements section, but...In each section you will find Rules as a Pinned topic, such as this one:

GTAForums.com Rules & Policy:

Every new/old member is expected to read the forum rules and policies that can be found over here.

It'll help you understand what is allowed and what is not.

Using the Search function:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=406690 by Dutchy3010

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=187971 by adamcs

Click on the above link. It'll guide you on using the search function to yield accurate results.

Use of the search function is important and highly recommended.

Modding questions belong in the modding forums!

^ It's pretty self-explanatory, isn't it?

Looking for mods? Go here.

Looking for help on an installed mod? Go here.

SA Multiplayer (or SA-MP):

GTAF does NOT provide support for SA-MP. For all SA-MP related issues, please visit the Official SA-MP Forums.

Creating new topics:

• Since the game is pretty old, anything that you need help on might have already been answered in some topic created long time back. This is where the search function comes into play.

• Always check the pinned topics. They're pinned for a very good reason.

• If you're unable to find what you're looking for using the search function or in the pinned topics, then feel free to create a new topic and ask away.

• Post your topic in the appropriate sub-forum.

• Please be as precise and clear as you can while asking a question.

Bumping old topics:

• DO NOT bump old topics if you've nothing substantial to contribute to them.

• Unnecessary bumping of topics will result in warnings and the topic getting locked.

No warez/hot coffee discussion:

• In accordance with GTAForums.com rules, discussion of warez (illegally obtained copies of the game via downloads, torrents, etc.) or the hot coffee modification will NOT be tolerated.

• Buy the game if you wish to seek help.

• Remember, providing info on how to obtain illegal copies of the game is a bannable offence.

This was posted by a Mod over in the SA section, but pertains to pretty much EVERY section of the forum(except for the Hot Coffee part obviously, as that was for SA ONLY)... Just a heads up, that you can find stuff like this easy by reading the Pinned topics...Just a friendly heads up.

Too freaking bad. You took the job, now either stop doing it or deal with what it comes with. There's no reason you can't retire. I'm sorry but the fact that your unpaid, unofficial internet job is difficult doesn't mean that you should be too harsh on people. When you hand out warnings like crazy, all it does is make the place less enjoyable. People have to live with the fact that if the staff don't like them, they have to do better than everyone else. Everyone else can get away with slight things, some of us can't and we get a verbal warning because your little internet job makes you pissed. It's really stressful. Furthermore, if I'm getting warned, I get angry and nervous, when I'm angry and nervous I'm more likely to post something that will get me warned. For f*cks sake at least put in a cooling off period or something.

/rant or argument or whatever I just posted

Man... they are just warnings.. it's not that bad. Stop complaining about it, how many warnings do you have dude?

And the rules clearly state that the mods can basicly do whatever they want, this is not meant to be fair at all.

I've been here for 4 years, and I only have 5 warnings, 4 reminders and 1 commendation (and a temp ban, funny one). And I just try to follow the rules to avoid getting more. Easy.
