Ryan
I've got about $175 coming my way from a few odd jobs I've been doing and from selling my iPod. I'm planning on using the cash to buy myself a new case and a new CPU cooler to help keep my PC cool as it's been running really hot lately. Right now I think I'm going to go with the Corsair H60 and the Fractal Design Core 3000. I've also been eyeing the Cooler Master 690 II Basic, and the Cooler Master V6 GT. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't plan on doing any overclocking or anything, just want my PC to be cool. Prometheus
I say go with the Corsair H60 and the Cooler Master 690 II Basic, they are the best in their price range.
leik oh em jeez!
Definately go with the 690 II. Cooler Master has been making great cases for a long time.
OverTheBelow
I'd go with this case if you're willing to wait till July, it'll probably be much more worthwhile: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=61928&vp...facture=Corsair It's a brand new case by Corsair and appears to be much more worth the money compared to the CM 690 II - which I also own myself. Not that I dislike the coolermaster case, I loved it when I first got it but after a year and a half you will begin to discover that there are a few annoying aspects of it (e.g. vibrating metal meshes, awkward cable management, etc). A neat addition I think are rubber intersections that grip the cables and doesn't let them slip back into the motherboard side when the Corsair case would be cable managed, plus it also has more fans than the 690 II Basic. I also prefer the look of the 400R. But if you're dead set on a CM 690 II, then I'd recommend you get the advanced version (meaning .. not the basic version ) that comes with 2 140's and 1 120mm, rather than just 2 120's. 140mm fans are quieter and provide more airflow. If you don't plan on overclocking then a Hyper 212+ cooler would be ideal for you. It's insanely cheap and will give you the extra temperature headroom if you eventually overclock. Save the extra money from skipping the H60 for something else like a higher-end case (Obsidian 700D is incredible, my brother has one) or an SSD. OverTheBelow
Lian Li cases are mostly generic, small and really really heavy (i've had one).
AZAZEL
Lian Li cases are mostly generic, small and really really heavy (i've had one). I have one. That exact one, actually. You say generic, I say stylish, you say heavy, I say light (it's constructed in aluminum). Very sturdy cases. really really heavy I'll just quote this again and supply some facts that will make this statement of yours seem even sillier. The Cooler Master case in question? 9,2 kg. The Lian Li in my link? 5,5 kg. You better start lifting some weights. Edited June 28, 2011 by Azazel
OverTheBelow
The one I had feels much heavier than my current Coolermaster case for it's size. I think I may have generalised Lian Li a bit over my personal experience with one of their cases. edit- My Lian Li case was (probably) a PC-A16A, and it weighs around 14kg. Not to mention it's quite a bit smaller than the CM 690 as well. http://forum.ncixus.com/forums/?mode=showt...roduct_id=22879 Pretty sure it's that one but black. yoječ
I'd suggest Lancool K58 case. Lancool's are basically steel Lian Lis with lower price tag. I've seen K58 live and IMHO it seems to be better than 692. As for the cooler... Prolimatech Megahalems would be great.
Ryan
I think I'm gonna go with the CM 690 II for my case. Newegg.ca has the basic version for $70. The advanced version is $20 more, but it just doesn't seem worth it to me. $20 for a hot swap bay which I won't ever use, a few more tool less 5.25 drive bays, and an extra fan. I can get a 4 pack of 120mm CM fans for $10, so I'll just go pick those up and toss those in the basic version. As for a CPU cooler, I'd like to venture away from a heatsink and try one of these all in one liquid cooling kits. I've heard good things about the H60 and that's pretty much on par with the top tier of heatsinks these days. I don't intend to do any overclocking or anything. Anyone have any other suggestions or feedback?

Don't think Lian Li makes a super heavy case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811112312 That one there is a full tower ATX case and weighs what you said. Anyone have any other suggestions or feedback? 120's are louder than 140's and tend to move less air, but if that doesn't bother you then go with it. If you don't do any overclocking, it'd be a complete waste to splash out the extra cash on a closed liquid cooler - they are often louder than or equivelant to an air cooler in terms of noise levels. The only advantage is the extra space near the RAM or small case (which the CM 690 is not). Not to mention that if the pump stops working (after a few years) you probably won't know about it till your CPU has overheated. A large heatsink on the other hand is usually enough to keep the CPU fairly cool even if the fan(s) fails. @Waste: I don't have the case any more and it was quite a bit of time ago, but that looks very familiar. Ryan
Bit of a bump here. Okay, so I've pretty much decided on what I'm going to going to go with, but I just need some final input. I've narrowed it down to two set-ups. Cooler Master 690 II Advanced Corsair H60 Cooler Master R4 140MM Case Fan x2 Total: $157.78 or... Cooler Master 690 II Advanced CoolIt Eco C240 Total: $168.25 Right now, I'm leaning towards the second set-up. I'll never need that much cooling power, especially considering I don't intend to overclock, but for $10, it seems like a bit of a no brainier to me. I'm still unsure what to do though. Any input or suggestions are appreciated. Edited July 8, 2011 by Ryan
OverTheBelow
For the first one, you don't need the extra case fans if you plan on getting the CM II Advanced - it already comes with two 140's and another 120 (plus another 120 from the H60).
