Vanilla Shake
Hills Have Eyes. When they meant that "this movie manipulates your psychology" on the cover, they were not kidding. The camper scene was quite unpredictable... I had seen The Hills Have Eyes remake at least 100 times and it never bothered me. Then one night last year I took some sleeping pills in order to get up early as my father had an operation in the morning. So I take the pills and decide to pop the DVD in and fall asleep to it. Something in the sleeping pills made me view the film in a different light, and I was terrified. I actually had to rewind every graphic moment and I would just sit there with my jaw dropped. I was rewinding scenes so much that I watched it right up until it was time to leave. Put the DVD in at 11 PM, watched it until 6 AM, and then I sat in the hospital all day "tripping" on sleeping pills. One of the worst days of my life. Haven't watched it since. JoeyLeone25
To carry on the trend of naming films that haven't yet been named so far; Jacob's Ladder. When it comes to naming 'scary movies,' the results are always subjective in the respect that what may give Mr Men the heebie jeebies, may not even make Ronald McDonald flinch. But with that said, Jacob's Ladder has always stuck with me (I'm a fan of psychological thrillers, but wouldn't necessarily say they generally scare me), which is most likely down to the fact that the film manages to flip between reality (or is it?) and Jacob's hallucinations (or are they?) easily and without notice, constantly keeping the audience on their toes as to what's real and to what is not. Jimmy_Leppard
Stephen King's IT...That was one sick movie. For me, maybe even the best horror movie of all times.
visionist
Ditto for Jacob's Ladder! It's SO Creepy and Eerie. That subway station scene scared me senseless. Alien is the best Horror film ever made. As a film student I'm constantly critiquing a film as I watch it: this sucks, trust me. Alien I can watch without twitching once.

Slamman
Scary Movie, and it's successors, NOT REALLY scary, but I enjoyed them all fondly. Even when they lost impetus, I still enjoyed the campy humor that they provide. I remember one I think is good enough for repeat viewings, it's certainly unlike other movies that deal with the same subject. IIRC, The Others ...with Nicole Kidman? That was a haunted house story that eschews the special effects for more traditional scares. I think John Carpenter as well, though he sought noted SFX people, he did much of what he could himself, and made low budget SCARY! JasonAW
I should also mention Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. The originals by the way, the remakes take away the charm. With Halloween, it is just creepy to think that Michael Myers is just always there and doesn't die. Same with Freddy, plus it shows that you are not safe while dreaming. Also with my fear of spiders, Arachnopobia scares, I know it is light hearted. But the close ups of the spiders faces and that they used real spiders in some scenes just makes me feel uncomfortable.
