Jay Murdoch
Well the title really explains it. What movie have you watched or been told about that is really scary? I'd say...Insidious has to be the scariest I've watched in a while. What do you guys think? Post here and tell everyone which movies are you're scariest. Drift-Kingz
This should be posted in this forum. Regarding the question, I would have to say Paranormal Activity. Creeped me out a little.
Jay Murdoch
Okay, I didn't realise. And I've never watched Paranormal Activity but I'm planning on watching it soon.
t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m
Insidious was pretty scary. I'd have to say Blair Witch Project. Not really scary, but creepy. Especially to me, considering I live on the edge of a large forest and spend a lot of time out there.

Sam998
The Mist scared the sh*t out of me. Some gore can be a little unsettling. Hostel II was gross but not necessarily scary, but at the end the girl cuts the guys balls off, and that was sad because I am a cock gobbler and I love gobbling cock. Finn 7 five 11
Disturbia, that really is quite a suspense building thriller, don't read up too much on the plot before watching though, and obviously you gotta watch it at night by yourself.
Andyzoot
That's pretty unnerving. Also Suspiria and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...oh and that one scene in Deliverance for obvious reasons.
Algonquin Assassin
The Exorcist is scary The first time I saw The Exorcist was about 4-5 years ago. It seriously almost made me sh*t my pants. Still gives me the creeps today. Most modern horror movies don't scare me. I'll take tension and suspense over blood and guts any day which is what most modern horror movies are. WF the Hobgoblin
When you actually look at the picture, I find it's ceases to be scary. It's only when you see it subliminally flashed at you that it makes you sh*t bricks. I guess because you don't get a chance to take in the full image, all you see are the eyes and / or the teeth. I have to say however that those bits were the only parts of The Exorcist that I actually found scary. I never thought the possessed Regan stuff was particularly scary, more amusing really. In terms of 'religious' horror, I thought The Oman was scarier. Alien is one of my all time favourite films and I reckon that should get a mention as it's widely listed in top horror film polls. Admittedly though, I've personally never found it to be that scary, even when I first saw it the age of nine. The Shining. I've read the book a couple of times but much prefer the film. I can be unfazed by people getting butchered in slasher films but seeing the the word "MURDER" written on a door and the threat of an axe wielding maniac sends a chill down my spine. OH NO
Blair Witch (masterpiece) REC The Orphanage Spoorloos The Descent was very good The Haunting The Innocents The Mist was great. House of the devil. Tale of two sisters The Mothman Prophecies (surprisinglybrilliant) lots of old stuff, depends what type of thing scares you really. Personally its more subtle supernatural type movies that get to me. not to say movies like Calvaire and TCM wont f*ck my head, buts its things such as Blair Witch which really affect me. Paranormal activity for example really f*ckin shook me. I know opinion is very divided on that film but watching at my place on my own, f*ck man my palms were sweating. Couldnt watch it in a cinema cant have anyone even in the house when I watch horror. Needs total undivided attention. Youre only going to get a limited amount of horrors which really touch a nerve so wont take any chances spoiling them.
Pagelzilla
Paranormal Activity was the scariest movie I have ever seen. It's interesting that so many people are polarized on it too, they either really liked it or hated it. I don't know why more horror movies don't utilize the technique of not showing the villain. The tension is so much stronger when you don't know what the hell you're up against. In that same sense, The Blair Witch Project takes the number 2 slot for me. Damn devil witches/demons... Algonquin Assassin
i've never found movies that scary, games on the other hand, I've found very scary playing in the past.. Yeah I find that strange. I can watch most horror movies no problem, but when it comes to games I really have to build myself up to play a scary one. There's some horror games that I can only play during the day. Moonshield
Disturbia, that really is quite a suspense building thriller, don't read up too much on the plot before watching though, and obviously you gotta watch it at night by yourself. It actually wasn't half bad, but you should really watch the original it's based on. I don't think I've ever been legitimately scared by a film. I enjoy plenty of them, even the sh*tty ones (sometimes especially) but then again, I was the kid that at a young age (6 or 7) that would stay up late and watch stuff like Tales from the Crypt, the Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and The Twilight Zone. Vercetti27
no mention of The Shining? one of the most influential psychological horrors of all time, and it really makes you think? did Jack plan to murder his family before they arrived? what did the subliminal messages about the native americans mean? etc. I find reading about the explanations about the movie just as scary too. BabeRuth
the movie Silent Hill wasn't that scary but when I play the game Silent Hill I get really creeped out. I try playing Silent Hill @(at) night but I get too scared.
meta187
One seriously creepy movie I watched that is very slept on is Session 9. It's not some big budget production it's one of those usually crappy USA Original Movies. It isn't terribly gory or have any crazy CG special effects in it either. The biggest star in it is the lead, David Caruso from CSI Miami (lol, I know what you're thinkin'). What it is though, is very well written and what is left to the imagination really disturbed me at the time. Highly Recommended. ~ Studio: Q-13 Lounge / Q:13 Warrior Tunes / Interweb Chex Mix, yo.~
Legacy-666_
I watched ORCA when I was young. Its a 1977 movie starring Richard Harris as a Captian on a whaling boat who messes with the wrong killer whale. Kind of the same story as Jaws, but for some reason this stuck with me for a while. Saying that ,in my teens I worked on a commercial fishing boat and saw killer whales all the time so it must not have messed me up too much. Vanilla Shake
Some good films already mentioned in this topic. The Shining, The Exorcist, original Texas Chainsaw, etc., all classics. Back when Blair Witch originally came out I saw it, and it really did creep the sh*t out of me. Just some of the noises you'd hear out in the darkness would send a shiver down my spine, and to this day I'm still not big on wooded areas, especially at night. Something about leaving what could be waiting for you out there open to your imagination with that film was genius. Really can't sit through it now or I'd probably fall asleep. Though that did creep me out, my all-time favorite horror movie has got to be Alien. My love for this movie has no bounds. My father had me sit and watch it late at night as a wee little lad. The suspense building up throughout the entire film is nothing short of brilliant. The fact that you really don't get a good look at what they're up against until the end couldn't have been pulled off any better in my honest opinion. It's just an all around near-perfect film to me. The director's cut DVD is one of my most prized possessions. I really can't remember the last movie that even creeped me out a little bit. Paranormal Activity was average at best in my book, and most modern horror movies don't do anything to me. Only one I liked from this year was The Rite, and I don't even know if you could consider that to be "horror". Some games on the other hand (notably Dead Space and Dead Space 2) are finding ways to frighten me more and more when the vast majority of modern horror films fail to even entertain me. EDIT: I can't believe nobody's mentioned The Thing (the 1982 remake, that is). Edited June 30, 2011 by Vanilla Shake TC718 / <629 / CF5
Tyler
Rear Window, yeah. Psych did a great Hitchcock homage ep a while back, gave me a good chuckle. I'm on the same boat as Moon with the film thing. I grew up on John Carpenter and Urban Legend books. One legitimately freaky film moment I remember was the scene in The Shining where the wolfman starts yelling at Danny. I had no recollection of that film the first time I viewed it, other than that one scene.
Jonesizzle
Tales from the Crypt The theme song itself would wake me from a dead sleep, screaming crying for my dad. The 'crypt creeper' f*cking scared me for some reason as a child, the episodes themselves were entertaining, only one I remember is the ice cream man episode when he kept a dead body behind his seat and used it as I guess some topping to the ice cream. but the theme song, the gates opening, the door opening and that creepy bastard popping out of his coffin with some wicked laugh just creeped me the f*ck out. Kirsty
Tales from the Crypt! That brings back memories. I used to stay up late watching that on the Sci Fi channel, anyone remember there was some gothic model presenting before hand? It seems a bit crap for that nowadays. The only time a film has been on my mind was when I watched The Exorcist. I loved horrors from a young age but when I saw it I was about 11, first time I'd had proper nightmares. Nothing springs to mind to have ever scared me other than that, it doesn't bother me anymore though. None of the so called scary modern films have an effect, apart from maybe a few jumps in the dark. trip
Jaws actually kept me out of the ocean for a good handful of years. It didn't help that I saw it when it first opened at the theater off the boardwalk at the Jersey shore. I'm fortunate to be the age I am when it comes to horror movies. I grew up going to the drive-in almost every friday night for the horror triple feature. I got to see such classics as Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the big ass drive in screen. na na nana na. Kriskers
Hills Have Eyes. When they meant that "this movie manipulates your psychology" on the cover, they were not kidding. The camper scene was quite unpredictable... And then there is Japanese Grudge, which is scary... just scary.
