Mark
Is it usually hot in Britain during summers? In Seattle we have freezing winters and then when the weather is above freezing it rains. Today it is about 21*C/70-ish. Back in my original home of Indianapolis, Indiana we would have extremely cold winters and then hot summer. There today it is 28*C/84F and storming.. Not really, though these past few years have been getting a bit silly. Over 30 celsius (say 90s) is quite common, though over 100 isn't still, though we're seeing more days like that recently, however we've also seen lower than -20 celsius (-4 Fahrenheit) this past winter. 50 degree variation is pretty mad for us, we're used to maybe 25-30 degree variation over the year. Was at least 32 in the shade today here. Kinda warm. Hoping for a decent storm tonight, wanna get some photos.

Have you had the delight of traveling East of the cascades during the summer months? Over here it gets 90-100 regularly during the summer. Our "abnormally" hot temperatures usually fall in the 105-110 F range. As far as winter goes, it got down to -7 F this winter but I've seen it go down to -17 F. Just a heads up if you ever want to visit other parts of the state. A lot of people get caught off guard coming from that side of the state, 'cause over here it's basically a desert. Last year we actually had people traveling all the way over to your side of the state to buy an A/C because there were none here left to buy. As far as staying cool in the heat goes, a big mistake you might make it to wipe your sweat off your forehead. Don't do that! When you get all sweaty, get up, and go outside. All the air outside will make that evaporate and give you a huge cool down. Don't stick around outside too long though or else you'll just heat up out there. Anyway, the whole laying-around-naked thing usually does it for me, but I'm probably more acclimated for those kinds of temps. The only thing I've done past that is take cold showers. Buck Fitches
When I lived in Southern Texas in Brownsville (border town) a few years ago during the summer it seemed the temperature was uncomfortably hot every day... It was hell, after living there I prefer cold weather to warm.
Max
The thing is with Britain is that the figures don't tell the whole story. 30+ is hot but its not a dry heat; its humid and sticky. 'Muggy' as some say, a word only applicable to Britain.

El Zilcho
Right next to the sea so there's a consistent breeze which is really refreshing. The sun keeps it warm and the wind keeps you cool enough, so I'm pretty content with current weather. But there's no way in hell we've experienced 36C weather! f*ck me, that's insane.
