hristobg
Well, as you may know, GTA IV has borders, so the map is not unlimited. I suggest you to start with the biggest citities of these countries, maybe their monuments, etc.. Like Eiffel tower from Paris, Buckingham Palace/London, etc.. Good idea you have! Actually I thought about the same idea many times, but I realized that I couln't realize it. Lol
flotwig
I think that unless you have a massive, well-paid team of 3D artists and programmers this will fail. Sure, it would be nice to have such a massive and immersive map, but it is not going to happen. First off, the amount of research involved would be incredible. The reason that the cities in GTA games look so realistic is because Rockstar sends scouts out into the cities they represent so that they know exactly how to model them. The travel, time, and labor expenses alone would be astronomical. Even if you did manage to collect that kind of data, 3D artists would still need to build the cities. Liberty City alone took more than a hundred highly talented people working together to build. Finally, GTA is a uniquely American game. It makes fun of consumerism and American companies like Burger King and KFC. People drive on the right side of the road, they speak English, etc. It would be interesting, but it is not going to happen. XTREME0235
Not to mention the sheer amount of bandwidth it will drain from someone's usage when trying to download such a beast. Even if the downloads were divided into parts, it would still be massive. Plus the restrictions on the average PC/Laptop, only few would be able to run it half decent. It would be nice but its just wishful thinking if you ask me.

rootmanback
even if its a lotta work, i dont see why you cant do it and make ths mod..... i mean sure its not sumthing you can finish in a weeks time as itll take a lotta work. but then again there arnt any mods out here that doesnt push the rage engine to its limits. what you should do it get that sketchup from google where you can use to create buildings, cars, items, other world objects etc. then you may wanna look into getting sumthing like 3dstudio max or get blender as its free and then practise making a city. i would at least start off with making a city that you currently live in and add all sorts of things that make it stand out. get into practise of using 3d software so that you get used to the way you make stuff and be familiar with the tools. p.s. if youre gonna make a world mod, you could start off making a city based in australia sydney baby. gta: sydney. id play that. Limiter
Yeah, gta maps have boundaries. I think what this means is that if you model outside the boundaries, they will not be visible when loaded in game. At least this was how San Andreas does it. Please correct me if I am wrong. Wait... speaking about boundaries, does anyone know the exact boundaries on the map of GTA IV?? I have to admit it will be a great dream, but not workable as of now due to a massive load of issues involved.

nkjellman
Its a great idea, but GTA IV can barly handle the LC map because its crap. The game is great, and its my number one on my top 5 list of games, but the PC version was not well made, and lags for dumb reasons on a quad core. Kinda sad, that place was funny. it isnt fully gone for good, there's a mirror site called "encyclopediadramatica.ch", but it must not be working at the monment but still, if youre willing to make a legitimate map of every crack, alleyway, and building in the world, good luck. go to google maps, and tell me if you can put all that into a mod

Yeah, I have a quad core and it lags for some reason as well, I think it was a bug related to how the game process various graphical stuff such as shadows ect. But turns out this game might be leaning more towards "graphics card" processing rather than demand on the CPU. Don't know though, my GTS450 seems to be able to handle other similar video games on high settings. The best improvement for me as far as I am concerned resides in the fact that you can put as many custom object on the map as you want "within boundaries of course." This is in contrast with GTA SA where there are limits on this. If only Rockstar can have a system similar to the flight simulator game, then we might be able to fit the entire world on. nkjellman
There are two boundrys in GTA IV. The maping boundry which is also the MP boundry. There is the boundry way outside the map where your health goes down. I bypassed it on Xbox 360 with a modded save and your vehicle/player disapears when looking in many directions. This is just impossable. The best bet to geting a good start is porting the wholl google earth map to GTA IV which would take forever. You would have to have one, or many big teams to get this done.,
Get The Clicker
Or you could use main cities from each place and cram them all into one boundary box. May have memory issues though and it would be extremely time consuming.....
Swoorup
I can tell how to put the whole earth in the GTA IV. Just put a huge globe of earth covering all of gta iv map boundary. Then you put highly detailed textures of the earth in the globe, so can view the cities while zooming in with a sniper rifle!!! THATS IT!!!!
