Spider-Vice
The game contains lots of violence, drug references and lots of sexually suggestive things, the 18 rating is sufficient. Because of the Hot Coffee fiasco in 2005 it got rated as AO but later that was fixed. Girish
What S-V said. Also, I don't see why it matters what the game is rated. You seem to be 13 years old. Has the rating stopped you from playing the game? The rating exists for political reasons so that the government or some moral institution doesn't take offense to the contents of the game and the fact that the game is being made available to minors. King Mystery
Pretty much everything Girish just said. It's rated M for a reason.
GTALover97
@girish rating doesnt stop me! but if GTA series was rated R18 or 12 by BBFC? and next "12" Edited June 25, 2011 by GTALover97
Spider-Vice
It's by law, the game has that content, it has obligatorily to be rated 18. To be rated 12 it would have to be a game like the Sims and even that's rated Teen. King Mystery
@spider but what about "R18" Restricted 18? It's already rated that. @girish rating doesnt stop me! but if GTA series was rated R18 or 12 by BBFC? If rating doesn't stop you why do you care what it's rated? Username.gta
In my opinion, some GTA Games could get away with a '15' rating, but it is rated 18/M/AO for a reason, due to violence and drugs. (And Other things)
lil weasel
Censorship is very important to some people. The ability to tell you what you can do/see/read boosts their egos.. Especially in the USA where the Extremist Religious must protect everyone from Sin. Since the Game contained everything evil (wanton murder, theft, and especially SEXual activity) it had to be stopped. However some First Amendment ‘perverts’ got in the way and allowed the game to be Rated rather than Banned totally. If you note, once the Morality People got their share of the profit$ they quieted down. As it is some few people believe in the Real World and the Game gets into the hands of children anyway. Come to think about it: it’s about time for a worldwide ‘book burning’. SEARCH is your Friend, (from three pages of Censorship): Are you a kid that plays SA? Morality Censorship Mod? Can a video game lead to murder? is it legal? I ran a Video Store for eleven years and Mothers and Aunts would come in to Rent GTA:SA for their charges. The youngest was Six, most eight to ten years of age. POLL: Age of San Andreas Players
YankeesPwnMets
In my honest opinion, certain kids can still play GTA and lead a normal life. I think that my younger cousins and a lot of others minors I know are mature enough to play the game. @original poster: If you can't buy the disc version of the game, run your butt out to a CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens or whatever, buy yourself a Vanilla Visa prepaid credit card and buy the game on Steam using that. It's only selling for $3.75 until 1 PM Eastern Time I also know a minor that got a PS3 version of GTA IV and he is 13, with no ease at Gamestop. It's not impossible for young people to get their hands on rated M games *cough*Chinatown game stores*cough*
GTALover97
@yankee what the f*ck you are talking about? i have only GTA SA but i downloaded but if GTA SA was 12 it will be ok to Edited June 26, 2011 by GTALover97
lil weasel
Oh... almost forgot to add: the game is rated M because of the SEX and violance and The Hod Coffee (DON'T ASK) mod. The company was sued and as part of the settlement they had to move the rating to M or AO.
GTALover97
@lil why rockstar putted sex in GTA SA?
Arsen Vitiuk
The question had to be, why they put sex in GTA:III in the first place. I guess to make the game more similar to real-life. Back on topic, let's begin with us not knowing what that 'Coffee' script was actually intended for. All this scandal was just an excuse to rip Rockstar for money. (One guy I know said that Jack Thompson couldn't learn how to fly in GTA SA, so he tried to make Rockstar pay for this somehow, and then he found this way out ) In our country this game is available for teens to buy (somehow, our goverment doesn't give a crap about the ESRB), but to play it and remain "yourself" is the destiny of only mature people, meaning you won't go out on the streets killing people. I think that it's a question of mental maturity, but the rating is because "the majority" believe that people's minds are mature enough for this game at a certain age. But in fact, it is totally different. People who are 13 years old can have a mind of an adult, yet a 25-year old man can have a 10-year old's mind. King Mystery
well i blame BBFC PEGI ESRB for putting for M for mature PEGI 18 and BBFC 18 Well R* would probably be sued if the game wasn't rated that.
Spider-Vice
Not Rockstar Games but the rating company, the rating company is the one that rates the game after receiving it from the publisher, not the publisher itself GTANet | Red Dead Network | black lives matter | stop Asian hate | trans lives = human lives the beginning is moments ago, the end is moments away
YankeesPwnMets
well i blame BBFC PEGI ESRB for putting for M for mature PEGI 18 and BBFC 18 I dont get it.... what the f*ck are you complaining about? Look at all the content in the GTA series. Violence, strip clubs, prostitution, of course it's rated M. In fact, one more mature thing Rockstar puts in any GTA game and the game is going to be slapped with a AO rating. If you don't like it, why don't you become President and get rid of these companies? Stop f*cking complaining about ratings because the truth is, 99% of the public supports ratings. The 1% that don't are whiny f*cks like you, but you complain to the government, why would they give two sh*ts about your opinion? You can't legally vote.
