Arsen Vitiuk
Today I was flying a Dodo out into the sea behind the hills of Shoreside in an attempt to reach the Ghost Town. I never found it, but instead I came across these: You can see very distinctive margins between textures. These are the borders of the GTA:III game world, beyond them there's nothing at all. You cannot get past those barriers as your Dodo will be kicked off these borders viciously and, most probably, result into you falling in the sea. If you try to reach the borders under a normale, your Dodo will just be reversed in an opposite direction. If you attempt to reach the borders by boat, it will stall even before reaching them. It's nothing special, but it made me feel a bit fuzzy. I had a feeling of another world being outside there, a world that nobody of the Liberty City inhabitants is worthy to reach and travel to. There may be another life out there, another world, a world which we'll never see... I felt like I was at the World's End. In fact, these margins do mark the GTA:III World borders, but my feelings were of other kind. It felt like I was at the World's End our ancestors viewed to be (since they thought the Earth was flat), like beyond that border there is something special, something mysterious... maybe even something Godly. It made me shiver and tremble a bit... I was especially taken aback when I saw the sun rising from beyond the World's End - it was an unforgettable sight! Apparently, it makes me feel that our ancestors were correct: the world is flat. The only incorrect statement at thier part was that this was the world we lived in. When in fact, it is the world GTA:III lives in. Edited July 20, 2011 by Arsen Vitiuk
mateczko
I think if you get past the barriers somehow the game will just crash with "Unhandled Exception"on the PC, or it will just stop in PS2 version.

No, it won't. Because you can't simply get past them... unless you use a coordinate placing trainer. If you just try to reach it by normal means, it'll just kick your Dodo away from the borders and your boat will stall.

lloydo
How'd you get the Dodo to fly that long?
Arsen Vitiuk
How'd you get the Dodo to fly that long? I have developed my own, unqiue technique: In all guides it is stated that you should lift off once the sparkles start to appear. Don't do that!. Use the button to look lerft/right and see when the propeller is ALMOST reaching the ground, then stop pushing the 'Dodo Down' button and the plane will lift off, but much smoother and the flight will be much more stable than if you'd see sparkles. Filip
That's right, I'm using it too. All guides with sparkles were always stupid
WhistleBlower
I think the leader of the Epsilon cult in San Andreas states that the world is flat. I mean, of course it comes down to hardware limitations, but I thought that him acknowledging that nonsense was essentially breaking the fourth wall. Nukey Shay
The only thing that is required to fly a Dodo is dipping at high speed. You don't even need to force the nose down if you are already travelling on an incline (such as when you taxi down Callahan bridge). You can even "dead-start" a Dodo flight if you drop off a high building (six storeys should work). I've done this with the building near the casino many times...the taller building next to it makes it easy to park up there, and the coastline gives a bit more altitude to start the climb after you fall. Once you fall from high enough, ingame physics takes over and forces the Dodo to climb...so you just need to keep the nose low enough so the Dodo does not stall. BTW the complete map is here...showing all of the Easteregg names: http://www.thegtaplace.com/images/gta3/map...ap-unedited.png Be warned that attempting to cross a world boundry on the PS2 will crash the game (as mentioned, the PC version will "kick" you into travelling the opposite direction instead). Uncontrolled barrel-rolling on either version can potentially crash the game too.
Nukey Shay
Found this on Noops' pages: http://noops.gtaunderground.com/My%20Dodo%...20Its%20Own.htm That trick details how the game cannot even stall an unmanned Dodo if it started with enough altitude It just keeps rising and falling all the way to the end of the world. This page shows how he got up on the Shoreside hospital: http://noops.gtaunderground.com/Dodo%20Height%20Guide.htm

Thanks! ...But I doubt it though... It's something else. The game itself, more likely. Anyways, back on the topic...

Nukey Shay
BTW you never found the Liberty Bank street (i.e. "Ghost Town")? It's very easy to find...stuck right between those two closed tunnel entrances. It's invisible until you get close enough...but the large rectangular "hole" in the water marks it's position very clearly.
Carbonox
I think everyone knows about the Ghost Town already... And it's kind of old news, but it seems that this "end of the world" is still a sort of active topic

Filip
Man, it's so easy - I think that you should like flying dodo if you are chaingame player (PRO like the most of us).
Arsen Vitiuk
Man, it's so easy - I think that you should like flying dodo if you are chaingame player (PRO like the most of us). Not obligatory. Plus, I said I never reached the Ghost Town, not that I can't handle a Dodo. If I didn't, I wouldn't have flown that far, believe me. Also, believe me, it takes a hell of an effort for me to land in the Ghost Town. But it's easy for me to gain height and attitude now. Anyway, shouldn't we remain on-topic (before someone reports us)?
Carbonox
It takes a hell of an effort from anyone since you can't land there I never knew about the sun rising from under the ground right at the end like that, but now that I think of it, it's actually quite logical. Nukey Shay
AFAIK, you'd need to nose-dive & crash onto the packing crates or dumpster in the alleyway (the only solid objects)...then exit before the Dodo falls off and hope that it doesn't shove you. I never did that myself, but I managed to crash behind the tunnel entrances before...which is quite a lot easier by comparison. Those on PC can use Admin Console to warp to a crate
Pooka Mustard
Good thread, made some secrets. But I liked the Dodo flying on it's own, I laughed a bit! Maybe shall I reinstall the game to try taking off as Arsen said? Maybe. EDIT: I'm still unable to fly the Dodo. Damn. Any way used, I still can't even fly in the opposite direction of take-off. Nukey Shay
Practice speeding down the Portland side of the Callahan bridge before it has been repaired (no traffic there yet)...that gets you up in the air without even trying, so you just need to get used to keeping the nose level so it does not stall. On the medium 3rd person view, just move the nose down whenever you see it's red color. Once you get used to that, then you can try taking off from the airport's flat surface...confident that you can keep up in the air once you get aloft
Arsen Vitiuk
Look, guys, this isn't the Dodo Flying Tutorial thread, so why do you post it here? No offence, but there are another topics discussing how to take off and fly the plane! On topic, we're discussing the GTA:III world margins! Nukey Shay
K... Why do you suppose they altered the game engine to bounce planes back for the PC? Better yet...why was this not done for the PS2 version originally? How difficult would it be to hack that aspect into the PS2 game using a cheatdevice? Inquiring minds want to know
