Can we get something straight, please? Anyone who believes the PlayStation Vita will severely limit the GTA home console experience does not know what the hell they are talking about. In fact, after watching the Uncharted: Golden Abyss demo, I'm wondering why more people aren't excited to play another GTA on a portable device, in this case, one that clearly shows that its hardware is on par with the PS3.

alright lets say that the software is up to par, would you really want to play an expansive game, with current gen graphics on such a small screen? At least for me the screen really inhibits the experience.

That's not a valid complaint though. Who in their right mind would expect a portable device to have a screen the size of an HDTV? It's not enough that the PlayStation Vita games shown during this year's E3 look just as good as the PS3 titles? Look at how many people bought LCS and VCS for the PSP back when it came out and enjoyed it. Common sense dictates that Rockstar will continue making great games for portable devices so the PlayStation Vita should be no exception.

Also remember that LCS + VCS eventually got released on PS2. I'm sure they'd release a vita GTA on 360 and PS3 in the end as well. So it'd just be a case of waiting.

Its not a complaint about the vita... Its a complaint about portable gaming in general. I will never enjoy a portable game even near as much as a console game because of this, and Im sure alot of people will agree with me. Honestly what are you guys on? have you ever played a psp game for more then like 30 minutes... you get headaches and sh*t... Especially if it has good graphics.

Yeh but I don't wanna fork out another £250 just to play GTA. Plus it pretty much means you'll have to pay for another £100-£200 worth of games for the investment in the vita to be worth it. It's just forcing us to part with our money when we don't really need to, remember those amazing consoles that we already forked out £000's for? Yeh I don't remember them all of a sudden breaking so how about we use them instead of something designed mainly with the intent of making more money for a company.

You know, you're quick to criticize Rockstar for releasing a game on a handheld because, as you say, "it was designed with the intent of making more money for the company" but the truth is that that can be applied for every title, including those for home consoles, as well as the PC. You're simply promoting a double-standard. And just because you won't enjoy playing it doesn't mean others shouldn't.

I've never experienced headaches or anything like that while playing on a PSP. Hell, I used to go several hours without a break playing Dragon Warrior III for the Game Boy. I mean, look, dude, if portable gaming is as bad as you say then the market would have died a long time ago. Some people get headaches on home console titles and on the PC. But, like portable titles, those instances only account for a minority.

You, as well as every one else who is on the vita bandwagon , are out of your mind. Lets just talk pure money for abit. the Vita is a severely limited market. 1 I don't even think that many people are going to shell out 300$ for a damn portable device, but even if vita sells like the psp did, they still do not have much profit potential. psp's sold like crazy. Like many more psp's were sold then ps3s, yet the top selling game on psp only sold 2 mill copies. This is because people don't buy many games on their portable devices because they simply don't use them much. Most people only use their psp's on vacation. So even if the vita does sell, rockstars profits are still substantially less then they would be on consoles.

Yeah man your right, maybe this is a problem unique to me. But like still wouldn't you rather play gta 5 on a TV then on a small ass screen? I just want to experience gta 5 to the fullest and I think playing on a 5 inch screen takes away from that

The f*ck would rockstar set gta in hawaii? No mafia, triads and just a minimal amount of gang violence. The only crime that takes place in Hawaii is weed growing. How the f*ck you gon make a crime game on weed growing? it'd be boring as sh*t.

This claim is ignorant. There is a ton of crime in Hawaii, mostly organised stuff dealing with Asian gangs including the Triads and Yakuza. It is mostly drug and human trafficking, and prostitution though.

Well, what it comes down to is the fact that the GTA series is a multiplatform franchise. So the chances of GTA V being exclusive to the PlayStation Vita are slim. How do we know that GTA V won't be ported to the PlayStation Vita? Why do we assume that Rockstar is "selling out" simply because they want to continue making money in the portable market? They aren't showing signs of abandoning the home console crowd and they never will, so... relax.

I also want to point out that even though the PlayStation Vita is the successor to the PSP, the reason for the PSP not doing so well comes down to two things: its UMD format and piracy. You say that people only play their PSPs on vacation. So, what, people only play their PS3s and Xbox 360s while at work? I'm sorry, but I think that your blatant dislike for portable gaming has skewed your perception on the market. Two million in sales for a portable title isn't that bad either. Portable devices were never meant to replace home consoles and PCs in the first place.

While it's true that anyone can edit Wikipedia, if you don't provide any sources, it'll automatically be reverted to its previous entry. So you guys can stop regurgitating what your teachers said in high school about the validity of the site. I mean, no offense, but no one likes a parrot.

For the sake of a shorter post I will only refer to Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories as LCS and VCS in the following post. I don't necessarily talk about the rumored Hawaii-based game for home consoles, but moreso the rumored PS Vita game (and the debates about it).

What's with all the arguing over the PS Vita? I myself was not too keen on the idea of a GTA game being exclusive to a portable when LCS came out, but I ended up buying myself a PSP a few months after that, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I later bought VCS on the PSP on release date, and I enjoyed that one even more. Just because a game is for a portable system doesn't mean it will be bad, or not worth your time.

R* always manages to squeeze in a great game, and provide optimized features and gameplay for that system. For example, LCS and VCS were the first GTA games to officially support multiplayer (at least I think they were?... earlier GTAs did not ship multplayer ready I mean). You could take your game with you, play it with friends, switch back to single player, etc. all in the palm of your hands. It's no wonder why LCS and VCS were some of the top selling PSP games. And let's not forget Chinatown Wars (hereby known as CTW). Touchscreen gameplay in a GTA? Seemed like a crazy idea at first, but nonetheless, it was still a good game. I personally think the reason its sales weren't as high as those of LCS or VCS (at least when compared to other games on the system) is because it was released so late in the life of the DS.

And maybe it does seem crazy to have to buy another system to enjoy a game, and maybe I'm alone on what I'm about to say, but can none of you guys say you've bought another video game system (or were influenced to buy one) because of a GTA game coming out on that system? I was hooked on playing III and Vice City on my brother's PS2, which eventually led to me getting my own PS2. I bought a PSP specifically to play LCS (and later VCS). I got a Nintendo DS just so I could play CTW (which I got on release date). I got an Xbox 360 so I could play GTA IV and its DLC (which was when the episodes were still exclusive). Man if it wasn't for me getting hooked on GTA and wanting to play all the new games, I wouldn't care about next generation stuff. Yes, I've started playing other games on these systems I've listed, but the reason I picked them and not other systems was because of GTA games.

Yes, the other portable GTA titles (not counting anythign before LCS) were ported to other systems eventually; LCS and VCS went to the PS2, and CTW went to the PSP and iPhone/iPad. Based on this pattern, some of you might guess that a game released on the next generation portable Playstation would be later ported to the next generation home Playstation (which happens to be the PS3). And, based on the GTA series obviously being more prevalent on competing Microsoft consoles this generation than last generation (AKA GTA games are typically getting a more even release schedule on the PS3 and Xbox 360), it could even end up on the 360. I'm not doubting this, that seems very likely. But perhaps it's just my opinion kicking in, but I'd rather buy it for the system it originally came out for (and typically the one it was developed for).

I have played both III and Vice City on both the PS2 and on PC. I could be talking out of my arse here, and this is not really a topic for discussing it, but I simply prefer the PS2 version. It feels more "classic" and "original" to me. It seems to have a... I don't know, vibe, that the PC version is missing. I have not played the Xbox port, so I can't comment on that, but there is a chance that a similar problem occurs in that version. I have played both LCS and VCS on the PSP and PS2, and, while I do think this is the comparison in favor of the ported version, the PSP versions are still good. They are the only versions (the original ones as well) that keep the portability factor the games were designed for. In addition to that, I personally think the graphics for VCS (and maybe LCS as well, but I have not noticed such a major difference with that game's two versions) are much better on the PSP than on the PS2. Things look sharper, and more colorful. Pedestrians don't look so blocky (the smoother and more realistic design of people in game was one of the touted new features of VCS prior to the PSP release, which only puts more importance on this difference to me).

And when it comes to CTW, I don't see much of a comparison, but I haven't played any version besides the Nintendo DS (the one it was originally developed for), but I think the DS version is by far the best one. The game was practically built on the touchscreen interface (and the two screens, so no iOS, you are still a little guilty). And from what I've heard from some people here who have both/all of the versions, it simply "feels" better on the Nintendo DS. I personally don't think that any new graphics, missions, or audio on other versions can make up for the radically different interface, and therefore hindering your interaction with the game.

So yes. The point of the past two paragraphs is that, even if a game does get ported to another system (In this case, the rumored GTA game based in San Andreas for the PS Vita), it doesn't necessarily mean it would be a bad idea to get the game for its original system (and to buy the original system if you don't have it). I then listed out examples of games that were, in my opinion, better on their original systems; you might have differing opinions on this, and if you do I'd actually love for you to share. The more ideas the better.

TLDR: Just because a game might be released only for a portable system doesn't mean it will be bad. And it could also be ported to other systems, but it's still not a bad idea to buy the game on the system it was originally released on.

Sweet.....I spent a month in Hawaii last June, and it was awesome. I was in Waikiki most of the time, and There were kids selling bomb-ass weed all up and down the strip. I smoked some one night and got wasted......

There was this sweet bar down the way called the sandbox---it was by far my favorite bar in Waikiki. It was a dive, with a whorehouse behind it---looked like the kind of strip club from Dusk til dawn....It was back in this alley, and called the alley cat. There were prostitutes all over the place too.

Lots of whores in Waikiki, and the weed is amazing.

Really diverse place though, a lot of Portuguese, samoan, and haole influences there.

Hiked the Na Pali coast on Kauai towards the end of the trip.....great great time.

Would be a cool game.

If you had read my previous post you'd see that I was against the vita. My point was there's no need to buy a vita to have access to a GTA game which is on the vita, because it will eventually get released on consoles (therefore buying a vita just because you're desperate for GTA is not necessary). Before you start arguing with someone it's usually a good idea to see if they're on your side.

As for the business lesson you tried to teach me what the hell are you on about? R* could and would do very well out of a vita release. If GTA V was a vita release and consoles had nothing then you'd have a point. But the way I see it GTA V is going to be for consoles, and a GTA:stories type thing will be released for vita. LCS and VCS were not really main games, just like whatever they release for a vita wouldn't be. But it would still do very nicely alongside a "proper" GTA release on consoles.

@GTA_stu, did you even read my post? Even if you buy a ported version of a San Andreas Vita game, there is a chance it will not be as good as the original. Especially since it would probably be developed to take advantage of the Vita's touchscreen and portable multiplayer capabilities. Porting it to any TV console would require the reworking of those features, among others, probably not for the better.

Nope I didn't sorry, I'm lazy and it looked too long. I gave it a read just now. I see your point but I still don't like the idea of having to pay £250 + the cost of the game just to play GTA. And I'm not too bothered if it's not as good as the quality on the vita, I'd still rather keep my money and play a slightly worse quality game.

yeah, Rockstar couldn't make San andreas for PSP, as the UMD limit was 1.5GB, imagine trying to fit san andreas in 1.5gb.... even in psp scale.

I would actually love a SA Stories on PS Vita.

a) It is another game. It won't take away the quality of other games, but rather add quality. So, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

b) I've played all R*'s portable games, and they've all been good. So surely, with the new features Vita has, this game will be good.

c) As PS Vita's games will most likely be downloaded, the game could be very large, making it closer to console games in terms of quality,.. features, map, attention to detail and general size.

d) You can take it anywhere.
