Small things you do to save money

All right, I got this idea from another forum so it's not entirely original... but what are things you do or you've done in the past that have saved you money?

I myself decided to stop drinking carbonated soft drinks and instead start drinking plain old water, as it's better for me and doesn't contain all the unnecessary crap that drinks such as Coca-Cola and Mountain Dew contain.

I also decided to buy more raw ingredients for cooking as this also works out cheaper in the long run than if you buy ready-made "garbage in a jar".

Don't be afraid to share your experiences and it's a shame Slamman is no longer here to share his ramblings about how he saves money, but I'm sure Tripmills could chip in, you hippy. wink.gif

Spend all my time on a forum avoiding the outside world so I don't get tempted to buy anything.

I make my own cigarettes(I dedicated a topic to this once) that are exactly the same as store bought with filters and all. Around here store bought cost over $6 a pack. My 'better than store bough' home made ones cost about 30cents a pack. A very noticeable savings when you smoke about a pack a day colgate.gif

I don't really have any because I'm tighter than a nun's chuff anyway, but my dad's girlfriend saves every 2 pound coin she gets and puts it in a box. It's weird how quickly it mounts up.

Well my daily allowance from my parents is $6. So I just take $1 everyday instead of $6. $5 x 5 = $25 per week saved.

Of course I'm tempted on some days to spent it all but I manage.

leik oh em jeez!

Save my change. Usually adds up to about $20 a month.

When ordering pizza, order online and sweep the internet for coupon codes.

Buy what's on sale, and stock up on it. Walmart sometimes has Red Baron pizzas for $2.00 each. Gas stations often have awseome deals on 12-packs of canned drinks, or buy one get one free Energy drinks.

Always check the unit price when buying food. Most people know to buy in bulk, grocery stores take advantage of that by jacking up prices on larger quatities. You can often get a better deal buying less.

If you have a slicer, don't buy deli meat from the deli. Cook your own and slice it yourself.

Buy energy efficient light bulbs to save on power.

I lose my money. I'm not even kidding. If I don't know where it is I can't spend it. So whenever a holiday is coming and I need money I just do some cleaning and I'm insta-rich.

Oh yeah!

I remembered a little scam I pulled off few years ago with that. There was this shop selling games at $10. Then I placed an ad on a local website claiming I was selling them personally. If someone requested it,I simply bought the game from the shop at a cheap price and sell it again.

I charged it $5-10 more biggrin.gif

Well... I spend like R$ 45,00 a week in public transportation and my father usually gives me R$ 50,00, so I save those R$ 5,00 and at the end of the month I have R$ 20,00.

And if I do that for one year I'll have R$ 240,00. wow.gif

My dad does this, and guess what's paying for his road tax in a couple of months time biggrin.gif

I usually order coffee when everyone else gets pizza with very few exceptions. Diet-related injury.

Buy used games, dvd, CDs on Amazon. They 9/10 they work, the higher rated sellers are reliable. Its cheap way of buying entertainment. £1.27 for quality films is a steal

This is a good tip. I buy a lot of my media from Play.com and Amazon, who often have a second hand or "Play Trade" section where other sellers list used items. They very rarely let you down, and there's measures you can take if for some reason the product you've bought is a duff one.

If you shop online a lot (particularly eBay), use Fat Fingers. It scourers eBay for typos of whatever you've searched for. I've snagged many a bargain from sellers who've spelled their listings wrong for whatever reason and they've simply gone un-noticed.

It seems that everyone else has an Iphone except for you doesn't it? Same here.

A big thing to save money is don't get an IPhone! I watched my brother's phone bill went sky high.

.. but what are things you do or you've done in the past that have saved you money?

The best method that works for me is to not buy stupid sh*t that I don't need. For example, paper towels, conditioner, and cable television are a few products that I shun because they simply aren't needed.

I hardly go out to eat because my wife and I can cook meals better than your average restaurant. I don't feel influenced by all the hype surrounding electronics. Despite owning a Blackberry, it's an old model that was given to me when a friend had upgraded to a new one, so it cost me $0. I refuse to pay for parking almost anywhere I go. Just a few examples of my tedious money-saving techniques.

Don't smoke. (no lung cancer bonus ftw)

Do not be tempted to buy fast food.

Don't go to the mall when you are hungry.

Be a pirate. Arrr!

After drinking alcohol do not buy any döner or shoarma but eat at home afterwards.

Do not buy useless crap/short "coolness" lifespan/garbage like the Ipad, your not cool if you have one you stupid hipster.

Buy clothes online from the USA.

Ride a bicycle if you are a teen instead of a scooter/moped. (No gas to pay, repair costs, better health)

Buy used games.

Seriously, I buy some old games from time to time.

And sell some.

And soon, I am going to trade Xbox 360 Elite to the latest 250GB Xbox for 80£.

I believe that's the price.

Finn 7 five 11

Turning off everything that has standby off at the wall, and using lights as little as possible.

That combined with just about everything else mentioned.

I have a PS3 so buying used games (online usually) you are almost always likely to get a great condition game because blu-rays are so scratch resistant.
