RED_
It could work very easily. Missions could also pop up depending on weather its winter or summer. For example at the start of the game is could be something simple like escort a mafia boss to a meeting using a snow plough because of the bad weather etc but certain people may call you with work at different times in the year which is good. Depending on where it is, there wont even have to be snow. Not everyone gets snow in winter. Just the days will be shorter, darker for longer in the mornings and get dark quicker at night as well as more rain, wind thunder etc. The key issue would be the light. To show its winter all you would have to do is make it so that it only starts getting bright by 10am and starts getting dark again at 4pm.
fitbikesbmx
I think it would be cool but could also be annoying for driving. For instance, I might enjoy driving in snow but get tired of it after a while or might get tired of driving around in the summer time with no snow. Maybe a way to counter this is an option to 'skip' longer periods of time. For example, in previous GTA games when you save it would skip ahead a few hours, maybe in V you could choose to skip ahead through an entire season. It might not really be realistic but that way, we could have an option to just avoid the potential pain in the ass snowy or icy roads might create. On the other hand, it could be a blast online, being able to choose exact conditions (Clear, Snow, Ice, Blizzard, Autumn, etc.) Maybe even add in an option for rivers and lakes to flood periodically. I wouldn't want Rockstar to have to sacrifice other important aspects of the game to add seasons into GTA V though. Maybe in the game that follows V. Hell, who knows, maybe they could even do a winter version of the map in a DLC package.

Original Light
No consoles would start to lagg if we switched from a city in summer to the same city with snow. Erm no they wouldn't lagg, or have any frame rate issues. It could easily work. It would depend on the size of the city, the level of detail, and the amount of vehicles. If there was alot of what I just mentioned, it would not work as the consoles can only have so much on their plate at a time.

gta9414
No consoles would start to lagg if we switched from a city in summer to the same city with snow. I really doubt that, they've switched from rain to sun and daytime to nightime without lag in previous gta's. There's also been snow in rdr, mafia II, etc... Kirsty
I'm really not bothered about different weather. Sunshine and rainstorms are good enough for me. If it was a new city that has a certain weather type, i.e. somewhere cold that has a lot of snow, then it would be nice to see some weather realism, but other than that I don't really think we need that many changes for seasons. Nebby
The question is not so if it could work...but if it could blend...
kmanmx
Seasons ? No. It's not necessary. Plus it is awkward, if you are having actual seasons, then how are you going to scale it timewise without it being ridiculous. If the season changed every 10 real time hours, that would be absurd, you might hate winter driving, but now you are stuck with it for 10 hours. Or it changed every hour, that would be too quick, a day would go by and you would be in a new season. There is a more intelligent answer, which allows for variable weather to some degree. Have it all in winter. In winter, it's possible to have temperatures up to 10celcius depending on where you live, and also as low as -20 celcius. Of course you can also have sunny days, rain, and snow, and even hail. That would make it possible to have a clear sunny day with normal road handling with the temperature being around 10c. Or a snowy cold day, with slippery car handling just an day or so after (In game time). You couldn't have changing vegetation, though - which is a downside. Slamman
Something akin to what R*SD did with RDR, That's realistic as anything in video games so far, if you're skeptical, take some time to watch the scope of weather in RDR, it's a joy...or look up the Time Lapses done for YouTube audiences, these are impressive. It's not likely to be evolved in a time frame where days and months go by. The most impressive thing about RDR's scope is the higher NOTHERN elevations having snow, it was just added in SA's return to LC for that one special mission, you saw a Snow Scape painted scene of Liberty City but could not explore that outside of the interior mission and some cheating one could do "outside" the game

CheesyJ
They really could work and I think they would add a new element to the gameplay. Could you imagine cars sliding off the road because of snow and ice, or if your character could not keep running at full speed for as long because of the soaring heat? It would add a new, exciting element to the gameplay, along with keeping in with the realism theme that the game has swayed to in recent years. It would be very nice but, adapting the season's varied environments and effects onto a "multi-environment" map (w/ deserts, or forests) could be kinda hard to do IMO. The best we could be getting (IF we're really getting something like this...) is having, within a typical metro map (like LC, not being much big...), a little bit of snow sometimes... and some heat effects maybe, which I'm really not seeing what heat effects there could be, apart from this little wish that CheesyJ said: or if your character could not keep running at full speed for as long because of the soaring heat? It's kinda tricky this "Seasons" matter, ain't it?
InstantCClassic
Based on the information and screenshot Chevy Chasegta provided in the thread "Genesis", the only season/climate I'm thinking of is sometime in the spring or summer. Desert setting around southwest would be amazing.

AndrefromEstonia
Nice thread. I like the idea...hopefully there would be at least some changes in the enviroment of the map. Im not counting on snow, but summer and maybe fall. I remeber Mafia 1 had the countryside and the trees there were very beutifully orange and brown.
