GTA_stu
Spring/summer/autumn/winter that's 'em right there. So do you think it would be a good idea to introduce seasons to the next GTA? (I know it's kinda short, but sometimes you don't need long paragraphs to explain the thread.)
AndreaXCII
id enjoy it but if it takes place in SA or VC then seasons wouldnt be THAT obvious and since the sane members of this forum realize its not gonna take place in LC as nice as having seasons might seem, like i said, itd go unnoticed if the next games takes place in either SA of VC
GTA_stu
Personally I think it could work. They had them in bully, and it looked really good in that game. It would really help create more of an interesting environment, one which feels diverse and alive. How awesome would it be to drive around in the country side (assuming they have countryside) at one time where you're in an open top and the sun is shining on a beautiful day, then at another time it's covered in crisp white snow and there's a blizzard. And to see the world around you and to feel like it's actually changing would add to the immersion. You see the leaves falling from the trees and everything turning golden brown in autumn, then the bareness and harshness of the winter. Imagine if you were driving a car down an icy street and you had to try and keep control of it, otherwise it turns into a giant game of dodgems with cars bumping into each other. Popsickelstick
driving in the snow could be pretty fun.
Starskos
I think so, apart from the obvious extra fun to be had in winter there could be missions you could only do at a certain time of year, ie a river or lake has to be frozen etc. It could also be used as the reason the whole map isn't be open from the beginning. Also i really like the idea of winter vehicles and sport side missions. We might not see seasons in V but it's definately one for the future. cactus.
First and foremost, it depends on the location. Miami is known as a place with only one season.. otherwise, I think the only way it could feasibly work is it have the seasons change at certain parts of the story line. There are already multiple topics on this subject. Should GTA Have a Rotational Calendar and What if there was seasons in the next GTA? At first I thought the Search function was useless, but I eventually found these sleeping topics that I knew existed.
GTA_stu
Part of the appeal is that it would allow for snow, which we haven't seen yet in a GTA. Well there was that mission in SA where you returned to Liberty City but that doesn't really count. In RDR there was a little area that was covered in snow, and for me it was the most fun area to explore. The great thing about snow is it allows for unique environments and so a unique experience. Plus you can also tear around on a snow mobile, or how about a bit of skiing or snow boarding? They could even have a ski resort in the game with a usable ski lift. It could also be used as the reason the whole map isn't be open from the beginning. I like the idea of some kind of environmental hazard blocking you off, rock fall or an avalanche or something. EDIT. @Thecacti oh I didn't realise there were already topics on the subject. I did try the search function but they didn't come up. GTAIndonesia
Good idea if in fall, leaves will be everywhere and will fly away if you bump them of shoot them in winter driving will be harder, slippery
reform
Could it work? Yes Should they do it? Yes. Would I like to drive a bus full of people onto a frozen lake and then shoot through the ice all around it so it sinks? Yes.
deathil93
All I want is fkn snow, thats it. Mafia 2 did it, why not GTA ffs XD
HipHopHeadSeb
yes seasons could work, simple as that. they could be included into the story mode, and while ur free roaming if u wanna skip season u should just beable to go to ur safehouse and skip a season, till u get the 1 u want. but to skip a season the story mode would have to be completed.... also seasons would add the ability to choose what season/weather u want ur online game to be set in. 20cent
But in order to have snow the game would have to be made in a new location or return back to LC. Whichever would be fine with me!!!
Isuck100%
All I care about is real-time, accumulating snow. Please! Unless it's not possible on current gen consoles in an open world environment like GTA games offer. If only they could somehow pull it off. Kwandilibro
If it's VC, you can answer that question yourself with a nice "NO". If we move to, say, a Midwestern location like Chicago, I think it could be possible, maybe on next gen consoles. I'd rather play in one season, though. Although snow would be awesome. AndreaXCII
if its in SA then like someone said, countryside would be perfect for snow, as your drive further into it it gets heavier and more present but starts out light so that it builds up and isnt just, sunny and and then all of a sudden...BAM! 12 inches of snow
powerchord
Seasons added a really cool element to the atmosphere in Bully. They should do it.
WhistleBlower
Bully didn't really do the whole seasons feature justice though. Winter, for example, was pretty much just the entire map swapping different colors -- green to white. You could still see the ice hanging from the front of the school albeit an ugly grey color. And the windows of the comic book store were also covered in snow throughout the year. No doubt current-gen consoles are able to make it look much better. Everything is more dynamic now. But it will definitely call for a longer development cycle because the maps are getting bigger. As others have said, it also depends on the location (Bully was set in a fictional New Hampshire town). Verdant
I guess this could work, Starting in the game in Winter perhaps? And the game ends in summer, This could really work with replaying missions. For example, I really enjoyed the snow so i can replay mission so i can drive around in it, This could also work for Cheats, Like in San Andreas the Sand Storm cheat, Id like to see this in the next GTA. Cause if you look at the Weather cheat for IV, It didnt really help, the only reason i used it cause it was too damn dark at night on IV. Overall good topic. Finn 7 five 11
Very short cycles i think, or maybe one day it snows, the next day it is sunny, wouldn't make much sense but that way you wouldn't be stuck in some season you don't want.
oc student
No consoles would start to lagg if we switched from a city in summer to the same city with snow.
GTA_stu
No consoles would start to lagg if we switched from a city in summer to the same city with snow. Erm no they wouldn't lagg, or have any frame rate issues. It could easily work.
AB0333
If the map had countryside, like SA, yes. If the map is going to be like VC's, no. I want summer all the time if it's going to be Miami or LA.
_GTAFREAK_
Well... despite of the lag possibility... i still would like to see that level of realism into the next GTA! Especially the winter WITH SNOW... it would be so awesome... but anyway i find this very unlikely to become true.
WhistleBlower
No consoles would start to lagg if we switched from a city in summer to the same city with snow. Um, no they wouldn't. You're severely underestimating the power of current-gen consoles. The snowing animation would be similar to the raining animation from GTA IV. Titles like MotorStorm also introduced the ability to carve through mud and dirt. The same can be said for snow. Like I said, everything is more dynamic now. But that doesn't mean it won't work. I'm sure Rockstar can make it happen as long as people have the patience to wait a little longer. I mean, it's one thing to cover the city in snow, but you'll most likely see changes in the way pedestrians behave as well, which calls for more animations and dialogue to integrate. You might even see a decrease in crime because only a fool would get into a high-speed chase on an icy road.
GroveSt.Fam4L
Summer/Fall are the best seasons for a GTA game. Winter would be a challenge and very interesting.
lukb13
It can definitely work. It would add more dimension, "good" realism, etc.
Isuck100%
All I want is realistic snowfall with dynamic snow accumulation. It would be a dream come true but is most likely impossible on current gen consoles, especially in an open world game like GTA with so much detail and so many processes going on behind the scenes at all times. chestycougth
if they have a mountain anywhere in V then it would be the perfect place to have permanent snow. and it would probably be pretty easy to make roads ice up sometimes. snow flakes trickling from the sky would be no harder to implement than rain. i would love to see seasons in the next GTA but it's probably too far into development to include into V but maybe we will see seasons in VI

ACR
They could implement season change and i would like to see snow, snow was great in mafia 2, really gives different feeling to city, but than game couuldn be set in vice city or los santos, they should implemented that in libert city, who knows maybe game will be set in detroit, so we would have all seasons, imagine driving down the road and leaves falling from the trees on asphalt
