New Television

Just picked myself up a 32" 3DLCD 1080p over at walmart for a nice $478. Got it hooked up, boy is the picture phenomenal, way better than my old TV which really isn't THAT old, but i'll explain

Got myself an 27" Olevia LT27HVX for christmas a while back, maybe 2006/2007ishh. It was previoiusly my parents and looked like it could be a 2004/2005 1st Generation LCD. Well..actually I know it's the first generation LCD TV since the box says "HD ready 720p/1080i (Don't ask about the 1080i since I really don't know since its a Progressive Monitor LOL). So i've been playing my games on it for the past couple years (GTA IV, L4D, Sims, etc). Sometime between the last 6th months I updated my drivers and none of the games wanna take on the TV.

The TV IS 1280x720 and that's the ONLY resolution that will work with the new drivers, I go to start up a game (Say GTA 4 for example) and if its set to a resolution that is NOT 1280x720 I'll get a Blue screen "Not Supported" and The computer will not technically be "Frozen" but It'll be unusuable. With the old drivers I really had no problems with any resolution up to 1280x1024 (wihich was the highest It could go even though the TV was 720p).

So I decided why not get rid of this thing for a new TV? And alas! Problems are gone!

But heres what's weird. Now that I'm at a Higher Resolution shouldn't I get a performance decrease in games at higher detail settings? I was playing at high-very high settings on 1280x720 on most games and now with 1920x1080 I'm getting a much better picture/resolution with details that are FAR beyond I was getting before with an increase in FPS in my games which makes them MUCH more playable. Which leads me to ask, how would this make sense? I'm not complaining by any means, but it makes me wonder.

The increase in resolution will typically only give you a hit in FPS if you're using full screen post effects like AA for example. Which, wonderfully, also become less necessary with a higher resolution.

Enjoy!
