dethbiker
nah,you couldn't sprint because of your bad knees, you wouldn't be able to crouch because your back would hurt, and there would be special random events where you would sh*t your pants in the middle of the street,so no,thank you. GTA_stu
Well in MGS4 snake was old, and it was ok. But only because he had a muscle suit, otherwise he'd be falling all over the place in his own faeces and urine. I don't want an old coot who needs help wiping his arse thank you very much. Mini games include checkers and bingo, as well as yelling at passers by and shaking your stick at them. Instead of a muscle and fat system, we have a pills system, if you don't take one every hour...you die. Now we can get girlfriends and take them out in the mobility scooter, better pop down to the pharmacy for some viagra if you want to get called in for some coffee. Missions include "survive the night without dying" "get the nurse to give you a sponge bath" "remember to put your false teeth in so you can eat solids" "if your relatives come to visit you try not to soil yourself". Sorry to all the old people out there. Really, I'm reeeeeaaaaally sorry. Edited June 21, 2011 by GTA_stu
The Wallet Inspector
I think it's been mentioned many times before, but a character like Michael Douglas's in Falling Down would be perfect for GTA, and it would go some way to justifying the craziness of the violence and the incongruous calmness/moralising of the main character in cut scenes. Kwandilibro
Nah, I don't see it as realistic. My opinion stands the same regarding this magic woman you guys like to fantasize about from time to time. Just because it's possible doesn't mean it's normal. And a movie character, ... *Faceplam* Anyway, and old dude who has to (unrealistically) run around shooting sh*t up will get no respect. By that age, he should have people under him doing that. The dude needs to be in his prime. And what a half assed topic. Damn, put some thought in man. Men in their late fourties can still be incredible fit like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp etc. And even men in their fifties like Bruce Willes, Samuel L. Jackson, Liam Neeson (who was surprisingly badass in Taken), Jackie Chan, Denzel Washington etc. can still kick some serious ass. Hell, even men (way) beyond 60 like Jean Reno, Kurt Russell, Michael Douglas, Jeff Bridges, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Anthony Hopkins, Harrison Ford, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Sean Connery, Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson etc. could be very cool But yeah, the latter group can't run for long. So, a pimped up mobility scooter with turboboost could be handy Or the blitzkrieg wheelchair from Dead Rising 2 Edited June 21, 2011 by Rockstar20124

And he doesnt want THAT character I bet, but a character that can be compared to. Just like how you can COMPARE some GTA characters with other movie characters.... Don't be a douche... Anyway, I kindof think of Niko that way, how old is he exactly? Is that ever mentioned in game or noteable? SchizNitz
id like it if the protagonist is a little on the chubby side because not many games do that (none that i've seen anyway)!
AceRay
John Marston was 38, so R* has already done that sort of age-bracket actually. Not to mention that Johnny K was 35. And I love their games so I would welcome an older protag. Even one around the 50s. And Niko was 30 btw.

GTA_stu
Tommy was aged 35 in VC. I think that is about the max age for a GTA protag though, maybe you could stretch another 5 years or so. I guess it depends on what kind of story R* go for. An older guy wouldn't fit in with the main type of game that R* go for (for GTA's). We always start at the bottom and work our way up. Like someone else stated it's not gonna look good for a 40 year old trying to mix it up with the young blood. He should already be up the ladder by 40. It also feels better to be "taking over" with a young energetic character with lots of vigor and desire. Plus the majority of GTA players can relate to a younger character more. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but don't you think R* would have to alter the story somewhat and change the normal formula, would it still feel like a GTA? mrpain
Ezio is 50+ years old already. And yet he's still jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Who's to say we can't have an old dude running away from the cops?

I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but don't you think R* would have to alter the story somewhat and change the normal formula, would it still feel like a GTA? Um Tommy basically started at the bottom despite his age. What's say 5-10 years going to hurt? R* could even twist it so the protagonist has a "getting out of prison" kind of angle like Tommy. He could have plenty of criminal experience, but due to being thrown into prison for a number of years he never quite made it up the ladder. It worked for Tommy and came across as believable. Can't see why it can't again for someone 5-10 years older. Anyway as a couple of people have pointed out Ezio is a great example of an older protagonist. IMO 35-55 is the perfect age bracket for someone older than the typical mid/late 20s type of protagonist we see. I think playing as someone who's seen the ropes so to speak would be bad ass. They could apply an old school way to how they approach things.
