ikt
Hello. I want to install a webcam for Windows 7, but none of the drivers have a Vista/7 version, so I'm bound to using XP drivers. Now the problem is that I do have the right driver files, but the Device Manager doesn't want to use them. I have read that some devices have a different name under Windows 7. For example, some Canon suffixes are left away. I have an inf file with the info about the device, and it says this: //lots of other info on where to put the register files etc, but below is important;----------------; Localizable;----------------CameraClassName="Camera device"SX="Sonix"SXTIMfg=""USB\VID_0c45&PID_6009.DeviceDesc ="PC Camera (6009 CIF)"RegistryPath="\Sonix\PCCAM\SNCP106\COLOR"RegistryKey="VID_0c45&PID_6009"SN.ExtensionDLL="vsncp106"SettingRegistryPath = "\Sonix\PCCAM\SNCP106"UninstallRegistryPath = "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SNCP106"SnapShotChanged="SnapShot Changed Event"PropPage_CustomCameraProp="Custom Camera Property Page"PlugIn_CustomCameraProp= "WDM Custom ICustomCamera Interface handler"SrcDiskId = "PCCam Installation Disk" I removed the (6009 CIF) suffix from the line USB\VID_0c45&PID_6009.DeviceDesc ="PC Camera (6009 CIF)" and got this: USB\VID_0c45&PID_6009.DeviceDesc ="PC Camera" Corrosponding exactly with what the Device Manager shows me. Saved the changes, but it didn't work. What more do I have to change in order for it to work?
d00d
What make/model is the camera? Usually Win7 is rather good at auto-detecting devices and managing them.
ikt
What make/model is the camera? Usually Win7 is rather good at auto-detecting devices and managing them. This one. It's a 2003 model and Windows doesn't detect it correctly. (The first time Windows detected it, Windows saw it as something else, but no picture.) Wolf68k
For about $10USD you can get a new webcam that will work for Win7. Granted it might be all that good at that price but you get what you pay for, but it'll still be better than what you have now.

What I want to do with my webcam involves opening it.
d00d
I'm sure thats what fleshlights are for. On a more serious note, I think driver modification goes beyond my ability here. I would agree with Wolf68k and spend a tiny amount on a new webcam. I'm sure what you want can be done - anything is possible - but finding someone who would think it worth their time is going to be the issue. shred durst
Have you tried refreshing the motherboard? Pretty dope... and those shrooms were tight as f*ck.
ikt
@ d00d: I see. There isn't any info on this on the net, so I doubt there is info to come. Not many people want to convert their webcam to an IR camera @ shred durst: whaddayamean?
Girish
I think he means refreshing the BIOS which means returning it to its default values. Although, I have no idea how that would help in this case.

YankeesPwnMets
Not to mention that modification of drivers probably would violate the company's EULA. ikt, I doubt that anyone with the knowledge will modify the drivers for you. It is a tedious and time consuming task, and the testing that goes along with it makes it absolutely exhausting work. People are busy now, and unless you pay them they probably won't take several hours out of their schedules to do it for you. Your just better off with a new webcam
