I'm not sure if you noticed this, but it seems this forum (gtaforums) is like dead since last year. I don't know what exactly happening here but, people seem to lost their interest in GTA series.

You don't get any messages in mod sections, no more discussion over GTA games, or general chat about GTA..

I myself, dont even liking SA but i'm glad it's out there and has bring this popularity to the GTA series, that already had millions of fans because of III and VC.

But it seems nobody wants to do anything related to GTA series, IV pratically killed modding and gameplay fun, so there is nothing insteresting about new GTA games aswell.

Is this the end of GTA Series? Except the next GTA, its like there is nothing to talk about in the forums, and i think people thinking this way too.

So what do you think, am i just making this stuff up or, is it really true?

I'm still a massive GTA fan but I do see that some are not interested as they used to be. Mainly because of GTA IV; In some people's eyes It was a letdown and wasn't as fun as people wanted It to be.

So In a way It has lost some fans but Rocktstar need to release GTA V or they will lose a lot more...

I don't think it's lost it's popularity. It's hard to compare now to when a new GTA is released. If it really was losing popularity then the sales of the next GTA game would be lower compared to IV. That's probably the easiest way to judge it anyways. But I honestly can't see that happening, I reckon the next GTA will sell even better.

And just because the forums are quiet doesn't mean it's less popular either. I don't know what the atmosphere of the place was like last year, but even if less and less people are visiting it doesn't mean it's because people are tired of GTA.

The 3 most busy times of the forums since I've been here were the "leak" of the domain names and that actor guys CV, the "leak" of the supposed character list, and E3. And in those times it was crazy, so can you imagine what it will be like when we get some solid info or when it's actually released? It's gonna be like if a UFO crashes in a sleepy village out in the country. Then KABOOM it gets hit by a sudden influx of people.

I would say it's just been quiet because they haven't released a new game or dlc in a while. There's only so much you can talk about the existing games and it gets to the point where one of cidamelo's insane topics are the only things worth discussing.

I initially joined the forum to discuss the future of gta and the majority of my posts were in the GTA NeXt section. But after about six months that got pretty boring, mostly because new people would keep making the same topics as ones that had been talked about a lot already. So now I mostly post in the lounge section.

Point is, I don't think GTA's losing popularity, it just needs to announce the next game to get people excited again.

No, GTA is not losing it's popularity.

The fact that this forum is all but dead at times is just because there's been no new game, or even any info on one. We can only talk about old GTA's for so long. It's all a cycle. I've been told that right around when IV was announced/released, GTAforums basically exploded. I imagine similar results for V, but on a larger scale. Then after a while, things will cool down, and it'll happen all over again.

As long as V provides us with awesome graphics, decent gameplay, and actual fun this time (some simple optimization on the pc wouldn't hurt either), the downtime in between V and VI shouldn't be as bad as it is now. also, R* probably shouldn't wait another four years after a release unless they're developing a new engine on new consoles. Nobody likes to wait.

Just don't get upset when you have a few weeks after the release full of nothing but noobs and little bastards leaving spoilers everywhere.

I've made it clear before that I'm no longer a GTA fan. Why? Because there are so many other better games out there. Portal, RDR, Marvel VS Capcom, Batman: Akhram, Mass Effect... I could go on and on. GTA is no longer fresh to me. Hell I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a sandbox game (excluding RPGs of course). I now devote my gaming life to the Mass Effect series.

But that's just my opinion. Now onto the popularity overall, today modern gamers suck. They are more interested in the countless CoD FPS games on the market rather than actual games with actual quality. The GTA formula of freedom in a sandbox map isn't very popular anymore in today's times. So f*ck the modern gamers.

I wouldn't consider the forum's lack of activity being a sign of the series losing popularity. Expect things to slow down when there's such a long stretch between titles. Once a new game is announced or any leaks or bits of info come out things will pick up again. Any of those that may have lost interest will most likely return to join the chatter too.

But to be honest, these are the most active forums I've been to in a long time. The forums I came from are what you'd really call dead. When it's just you and 2 or 3 other people online at peak hours of the day, then you know you're in a dead forum. When you go to the most active section of the boards and see most of the topics on the first page were last posted in 3 years ago, then you know you're on a dead forum. GTAF is quite bustling if you ask me. lol.gif

Not flaming or something, but if you are not a GTA fan, why are you then in a GTA forum? Secondly, You are a modern gamer too, right? (Mass Effect's basically counted)

Meh I was a GTA fan. Now I'm not. But I love this forum because of Gaming Chat and General Chat. That answers your question?

Maybe the term 'modern gamer' wasn't so accurate. Does CoD fags sounds more like it? I have nothing against the CoD or any other FPS like it but this type of games are more popular than GTA in these modern times.

Yeah, I was talking about this with some other GTAF guys over Xbox Live yesterday. Yes, the forums are pretty muchd ead because people have been loosing interest in IV. When V comes out (if it in fact does come out), GTAF will boost it's popularity again. Let's just hope, because within a year, these forums will start to slowly die. smile.gif

Yes, and I have to admit I am very disappointed about it. People don't make concept threads anymore, and to those who do don't receive a lot of attention or appreciation. I'll give you an example, Pedochu's Balkan Valor DLC is amazing, one of the best topics I have seen and its updated constantly, but still, it doesn't get as many replies as it should.

Concept Threads are done less and less, a couple of days ago I went back and checked on some of the oldest concepts and how everyone appreciated them and loved them, I have to say I'm pretty disappointed I hadn't found the forums by then.

I think that when it got re-named and sent to the bottom, the chaos happened.

Nah that's a totally different issue that stems back to probably last year. Because, apparently, around 2009, concept threads had tons of effort put into them (I don't know, never saw them). Then going into 2010 they got really popular. By the end of the year (or earlier), they were being done to death, to the point where literally everyone had one. Or three. In particular, Mati1501 and Luisbellic had God knows how many (though some were actually pretty good). By that point, you could just tell that things were getting out of hand.

I would say, the beginning of the end was when GTAV and GTA Gen Chat forum split. But you could very well be a veteran member with a new account, so I could be telling you stuff you already know. blush.gif

However, I will agree that moving GTA Series Chat (I see they've renamed the section, lol) to the bottom. Maybe the summer will bring some life back into these forums, or the concept contest that's supposed to happen (which I worry about). But concepts have definitely been on the decline as of late. If they don't recover, it was fun while it lasted. Watch the same thing happen after V, lmao.

Maybe a little. But obviously there are plenty of people who still love it.

I'm not sure I can say people are still buying it, but I know quite a few people that have (and love) it.

San Andreas was a bigger, harder game to beat especially for 100%. That kept people coming on to the forums for years after. IV not so much and IV has been out a few years so it's quiet.

I don't know. Member activity on the Forums doesn't define the popularity of GTA.

But I'm sure the next GTA (if there'll be one, of course) will define the rate of GTA's popularity.

Can't say that GTA IV caused the decrease of interest in this game. Many people, instead, started treating III era and 2D games as sh*t.

exactly.

R* wanted people to take their time with the game because, they knew people would be tired of waiting for new games. (I know LCS and VCS released after GTASA to fill IV's waiting period, but they werent popular at all like the other titles in the series)

Nah, I found this place when I was searching for GTA V, I found GTAV.net which linked here. Most of the things I know are because people've mentioned it somewhere.

Go on the GameSpot website to find out about it and trust me you will find less worrying info about GTA V and not long to wait hopefully and before more info was said i was about to lose interest and then saw this and my interest of GTA V went through the roof. And hopefully rockstar is just finishing off GTA V which is good news.

It's pretty active considering the utter lack of news.

There's never been a silence this long between GTA games before. It was 491 days between the release of Vice City and the announcement of San Andreas. There was slight information during that gap such as Take-Two announcing in 2003 in what quarter of 2004 the next GTA would be released.

We're at 604 days since the release of The Ballad of Gay Tony. That's longer than the information-filled build-up of 545 days between the release of Vice City Stories and GTA IV. Take-Two has learned to be very vague, only saying how much money they expect to make next year and letting people guess that means GTA.

The longest gap between actual releases of GTA games is 730 days between Vice City and San Andreas. Obviously, that will be surpassed.

One thing we should remember ,there are many GTA gamers who don't even know this site exists ,and they play it ,it surely hasn't lost its popularity

Only because there hasn't been a new game and GTA 4 didn't/couldn't live up to expectations. If the next GTA is anything like SA it won't matter.

IV and DLC's killed the GTA spirit. I wanted a fun gameplay, not those really slow (because they are soooo real) animations!

Just look at the amount of people who use this site everyday. I would put it down to people running out of things to discuss more than anything. It's really quite hard to think of something completely new and fresh to talk about when most of it has been discussed many times before.

Maybe it's not as busy as it was 2-3 years ago, but considering this has been the longest hiatus between core GTA announcements I'm surprised it's as active as it is and like M.A.K said many GTA players don't know about this site, so it's really difficult to gauge how popular GTA still is.

The only real way to tell is if GTA V's sales aren't quite as strong, but I don't believe GTA IV will have a real significant affect despite not being to everyones' liking. In fact I would say most people who were disappointed with GTA IV will more than likely still buy it anyway simply because the temptation would be too great.

GTA's popularity might receive a few dents and chinks in its armor, but IMO it'll take years for its popularity to dip to a significant level.

Of course. Whenever there's a game that hasn't had a sequel in a few years people forget about it. But once another one comes out people will remember again and start to buy it. It doesn't mean the game is bad or anything just that people simply can't keep occupied with the same series for years on end without some fresh additions.

If Rockstar make GTA NEXT everything that people want, I think it would make it's way back to the top again. GTA IV was kind of a let down for me because I was hoping for a bit more excitement and more activities. A bit more like San Andreas really. But if the next GTA is a success, I'm sure GTA will be so much better and more popular again. cool.gif

i honestly think that the only "real" fans of the series are those who stuck with the game since day 1
