Brown Sugar
I've noticed that my gaming sessions are a lot shorter now than a few years ago, for instance, I used to be able to play a game for hours without stopping before I got bored but now I can only play for 30 minutes to an hour before I get bored and stop playing, whether that'e because games aren't as good as they used to be in general or whether I just get bored of doing the same thing easier now. KilnerLUFC
I think, if you got a bit of spare cash, step outside your comfort zone and invest in a game that you might have thought you wouldn't have liked. Make sure it's got a good rating though and you might be pleasantly surprised! Recently I've only been able to afford cheap games, so I tend to pick them up at an outdoor market around here, and most of them are surprisingly good titles, even though they can be years old now. Think one of my main problems is picking up the same genres of games, so obviously my interest is going to go down in gaming. About the rating, this is why I tend to just read a review of a game, rather then just look at the score, since some companies tend to rate games low for stupid reasons. Main reason aswell is lack of money to keep up with gaming, so am usually stuck with a couple of games for months on end. No doubt I'd enjoy gaming more if I had the money for a couple of new games a week, thus meaning I could switch between games every now and then. mrpain
Ah yes. The ever usual lack of cash has decreased my interest of gaming too. As I've said before, I bought The Orange Box for $15. Now that was my last bits of cash. Now I could have saved up to $60 to buy a new game but instead I spent $15 for 5 games in a package. That's buying smart. So my advice, buy games with cheap deals. Jake
I pay $15 a month for GameFly. Although I've cancelled it once before and may be cancelling again. I just always saw it as the best alternative. Never have to buy games unless you really want to. And with few months you're subscribed, you get discounts and 5 GameFly dollars. So then if you really wanted to, after say 9 months, you could just get some 20-30 dollar game for half price on your credits. And there's always the "Keep" option which they'll just send you the case and manual in the mail to go with your disc you already have, free of shipping charge. Which you can also use your discounts and credits for. It's just nice to be able to play a game, send it back after you've enjoyed it, and get another. Without throwing down $60 or even less. And it's nice to know that some games you thought you'd enjoy were actually sh*t, and you didn't spend any money on it besides maybe a couple bucks worth of days out of your monthly payment. Sam998
The thing about rental services to me, is that once I have a game I really want to own it. When people see on my Achievements or Gamespot account that I play that game, want to actually still be able to play that game. I do see some benefits to it but personally I see the cons as outweighing the pros. OT: I've been playing video games since I was either 4 or 6 and I don't intend on stopping soon
GTA_stu
This topic has kind of got a strange agony aunt feel to it. "I've lost my libido, me and my partner used to be really energetic and had sex 3-4 times a week, now we're lucky if we do it 2 times a month." Well anyways I feel like I'm losing interest a little bit. I used to be the biggest gamer, but now I find myself getting bored easily. I can't even be bothered to go out and buy any new games. I haven't bought any for 6-7 months, but I used to be buying 1 every 2 months at least. It's not that I'm hard up on money, I just can't seem to make the effort. Remix
I was literally going to post this exact same topic, but it was going to be more of a rant of the gaming industry. I'm not sick of gaming because of age, if anything, I want to love and enjoy games now more than ever. Seriously, look at E3. Nintendo = gimmicky new console/controller. Sony = another portable device... Microsoft = kinect, kinect, kinect I'm fine with innovation and everything, but at least give something to the core gaming market. I bought L.A Noire the day it was released, played it for a few hours and took it back to the store. The game just wasn't fun. The only games I'm really looking forward to is Dead Island and Skyrim, and they're still a few months away from release. Even then, they could both be sh*t - it really wouldn't surprise me. There's tons of games actual gamers want, but the developers seem keen on ignoring the obvious and release games that fail to sell. Look at Star Wars for example; the community has wanted Battlefront for year now, and instead, they release Force Unleashed and a Lego game. Oh, and if that doesn't excite you, a sh*tty kinect game is on the way too! Woo! Seriously though, the best selling Star Wars game doesn't even get a sequel? Uh... I know they're all created by different developers, but still, Lucas Arts is mostly responsible. I just want some good games, that actually keep me interested for more than an hour before I literally feel like I'm wasting time because it's not enjoyable. And I know there's a lot of hate for the Kinect. But the fitness games are ace. Actually you can't even really call them games, more like programs. But they're good. That's all I've been "playing" in terms of games for weeks.
Lemus 91
I get bored within 20 minutes of playing now a days. And i used to play for over 6 hours straight. My last hopes are Halo 4, MW3 and GTA V. If none of them keep me entertained, i'm pretty much done with gaming.
Rockworm
I guess its the current trend to hate on games now.... Even though there are an endless supply of options. From Minecraft to RDR to old games to new ones. The only reason you'd be bored of gaming is because you're not trying to find the fun. I hear a lot of people here saying "i'm bored with GTA" Yeah probably cause GTA was all you played? Its all about moderation and variety. I been really getting into Demon's Souls lately which means I probably won't play it today and do something else. I always have different types of games ready to play. I haven't even finished Infamous 2 yet and it has nothing to do with being bored with it. I just love taking my time! The game industry is only getting bigger and better so if you're bored you only have yourself to blame.
trip
I oh so much hate busting out the old man card here but.... You guys are just getting older - it happens. If you love gaming you will always love it and participate. You just may not log as many hours as you did when you were a bit younger. And if you are like me you may find yourself playing from a smaller library as time goes on. For me it isn't a matter of losing interest in gaming, it is more a thing of losing interest in some of today's games. I pick up most AAA titles and never finish most of the time. ie. I picked up DeadSpace2 shortly after release. I have barley touched it, but in the time since I have bought it, I believe I completed VC twice, and full runs on TBoGT(again) and TLaD(again). papanesta
Quite the opposite for me. Gaming is my escape just now. Be it playing games like L.A. Noire and Red Faction Armageddon by myself, or Red River and Bad Company 2 with friends, it's a great way to briefly forget about real life. Or escape for a long time, depending on the game. Also, the thought of games coming out later this year/next year is keeping me happier than I would be otherwise. Specifically, Battlefield 3. All I have to do to feel even better is look at the list of games I have pre-ordered; Assassins Creed Revelations, Mass Effect 3, Rage, Deus Ex, Gears of War 3, and those are just the ones I already have ordered! Beyond that, there's; Skyrim, Forza 4, Tomb Raider, Uncharted 3, and plenty of others, still to have edition announced.
Cheat
It's summer holiday, and all the hours I don't spend with friends, producing, or chillin' at the beach definitely consist of gaming. I'm extremely lucky as I just now started San Andreas for the first time (yes, for the first time), and apparently, I've got one of the best games ever released to play through, I have even managed to stay (mostly) unspoiled so I'm definitely in luck with that. Also, I have given IV's online modes a new chance and I have moved from reminiscing the days of IV's multiplayer addiction back into that very addiction. I even gathered the mental strength to start my 9th playthrough and it's surprisingly enjoyable. Also, I have been playing through Mafia II and Alan Wake, both for the second time, again, and I'm yet to touch L.A Noire, so I'm generally in a very, very lucky situation. You're in for a treat with San Andreas mate, very excellent game. As for the online IV, I could never get into it, simply for the fact no-one was ever online, and if they were, they always went into free-roam...but that's a total different subject. Reading through this topic made me go through the Live marketplace looking for demos, and I've managed to add around 12 games to the download queue, so am definitely not losing interest in games. As I said before, I believe the main issue is having enough money to keep up, since I lost my job not so long ago, and nearly even sold my 360 because of how skint I was. Be great to be able to start buying games again. I think the best way to do it is to probably pre-order games, then save up each week for a game, and with any spare cash, buy some of the older gems out there. So yeah, I take back what I said in my first post...bastard money!

Variety is the key, go buy some random game you never thought you would play, i t might be much much better than expected, for example, if you are on PC maybe you should try a game called command and conquer, if you haven't already played it it should be quite different from any game that is on consoles (and then come to PC). Or just have a break for a while Sometimes i don't feel like touching the Play-station for months at a time, then one day i am sitting there thinking "gee im bored of the PS3 i don't think its worth turning on" then when i do i realize how fun it was again. Any command and conquer fans around? Yeah, variety is very important in enjoying games. If you only play shooters, then you will probably get bored sooner or later. If that happens, then pick up a calmer game like LBP (doesn't really have to be that). This is one way to get into the gaming mood again. Another way is to take breaks. I've noticed that many people say that have played video games for hours a day, and that is likely to get you bored at some point. If this is to occur, then I suggest putting down the video games for a week or two. This can be extremely effective as your hunger for gaming grows again. These are some tips that should help people to gain interest in gaming again (probably regardless of age).

The Killa
It's not about being rich. I work an average job and I still have more than enough disposable income to pay for video games, although it is still excessively expensive - more than it should be. I agree with the consensus that video games have, in any form, become less entertaining than they might have been before. That can be contributed in many ways; lack of innovation, lack of quality, or perhaps simply just a "growing out of it" phase that comes with age. In truth, I'm feeling it now. Only now am I finally starting to finish LA Noire where I left off about 3 weeks ago. I didn't find the game boring, just didn't really have any motivation despite the gripping story towards the end. I played New Vegas for 2 hours when I bought it and haven't touched it since, despite logging 100~ hours on FO3. I have felt this effect, many times in fact. It seems these days the only thing that can hold my attention is a game on my iPad, a quick session of FIFA / FM, or a BC2 match or two. Therefore, I have suddenly become the antithesis: the Casual gamer. Yes, I now enjoy cheap, easy, fun games that don't require skill. Why? My interest in video games has suddenly become limited. So much so I don't care to devote myself to games in order to level up, or grind, I just want to play a quick pick-me-up to have fun. My "hardcore" gaming days are well and truly beyond me. I don't see the point in it anymore. Maybe it's a mere barren spell. There hasn't been that many games recently with decent repayable value. Perhaps when all the games come out later this year I'll be hooked again. In the meantime, I'm happily enjoying my time as a casual gamer.
Tyler
To be honest I had more fun playing Dance Central and other Kinect games drunk last week than I've had on the 'core' xbox games I've owned for a long time.

There are so many potential-to-be-great games being announced yet there's so little to play at the moment. And about money for games, us students have not gotten to the job part of our lives yet so you can see how hard it is to keep up with the expense of video games. One game I will never get tired of playing is Rollercoaster Tycoon. Made waaaay back in the 90s yet still net got tired of it.

papanesta
We have definitely entered the summer lull, which has been made worse this year by a distinct lack of inspiring games leading up to it. The Killa
Being a gamer today isn't as frowned upon as it was years ago as it's increasingly becoming more popular and even competing other entertainment businesses such as film and music industry. A large part is because games are more accessible now. The definition of a gamer is changing rapidly. Although many would gladly argue that the whole burst of casual gamers is damaging to the industry. It allows developers and publishers to, essentially, make more money off less work and less risk. That's why we're seeing neverending sequels a la CoD, sports games, so on and so forth as they, by popular opinion, decline in quality. And while doing my best to avoid a pretentious hardcore vs. casual debate, I won't call people names for playing in one way or another. If it brings them joy, so be it. But I consider myself a casual gamer nowadays, only turning on my Xbox for FIFA or BC2 for 30 minutes or so, or the occasional Angry Birds on an iDevice. I just cannot find the time or motivation to play much else...

blitz
I personally am losing interest in gaming, and I'm not really sure why. There are a couple of new games that have gotten my attention but nothing that I obsess over. I have, however, been playing some old games I beat back a couple of years ago, and find myself having a lot of fun. For example, last week I found my old VCS game, dusted it off and got it running on my PSP.
