Roleplaying elements in GTA

What if R* were to add in an RPG element to their game? Say you have Niko as your character (example only I know Niko probably won't be in V) but you start off with certain skills. And at the end of each mission you get points to spend...I know GTA:SA had a similar approach but what if R* could make it more in depth? What r your thoughts or ideas, GTA fans?????

I liked the san andreas system. make it a bit more realistic and it would fit well with V

I don't want them to go too far with that, but they definitely need to improve on IV's 'RPG' elements. bring back obesity/muscle building from SA as well as speed, lung capacity, sex appeal etc.

I think it would be pretty cool. I don't want it to have too much customisation though like you often get in RPG's. But the skills building thing would be fine. Things like:

Fighting

- blocking

- strength

- speed

- counters

- melee

Shooting

- Accuracy

- Damage dealt

- Reload speed

Crimes

- lock picking (the better the level the easier you can steal cars)

- robbery (the higher the level the more success you have with getting clerks to co-operate) so at low levels they try and fight you off

- drug dealing (the higher the level the more money you get for each gram sold)

And you could also have other options like driving, physical (sprint speed etc), effectinveness of evading police etc.

I don't want the to go too far with RPG elements, spending skill points for example wouldn't fit a GTA game, but maybe the skill system in SA where the more you do something, the better you get at it,like the game adjusts to your tipe of playing(like the more you ride bikes, the easier it is to make sharp turns, wheelies, and holding on to the bike after some medium speed crashes)

I LOVE THE GTA games. But i also love to be a firefighter or a police officer. I am a firefighter myself i work for the FDNY. And i think that adding serious roleplaying could make this GAME SO..... much better. Wouldn't you want to sit in your fire house or you squad call and wait for that ONE call that you have been waiting for! And if u can dress up as a firefighter or a cop and use the ladder on the fire truck or the radio in the cop car and the fire truck. I KNOW I WOULD! So thats what I think should be in GTA V!

I liked the SA system with the RPG elements (muscles, stamina,...) and also the ability to buy safehouses and customize your character and some of your cars.

I'd love to see that in V.

Me too. I loved the way it worked back in SA, it provided the game with a more challenging playing experience IMO... fantastic!

I'm hoping to see this "protag customization" thing returning... it would be very nice. However, there's no need, in my opinion, to develop this element much more... the way it functioned back in SA was just fine. icon14.gif

Skill point distribution should still to MMORPG's or RPG's like Final Fantasy.

If I want to role-play in GTA V, the San Andreas system is fine with me.

As long as I don't have hunger and none of my skills choose to automatically go down. That sh*t was annoying. And if they include this, also have maximum (skill) cheats.

I want the fighting even better. You cant throw flurries only jabs and crosses. Only way you can get in uppercuts and hooks is threw combos. I want a less generic fighting feeling. Although the Euphoria physics make the fighting and knockouts awesome wink.gif

I thought the fighting in GTA IV was good. My idea is to have points to spend on skills like in "Godfather: The Game".

You could spend one point on something by accesing the skills menu.

Sounds like a more in depth Hot Coffee~

All optional activities added to the game from vigilante to cab driver to selling drugs out of an ice cream truck, to racing is all welcome in my book. The more there is too do the more extended play the game gets after the story is completed! Better value for all, at least for the people that choose to do it.

Maybe make it similar to the gym system in San Andreas, where you learned moves from the trainers?

It honestly lacked. It was way too easy and you couldnt be agressive. It felt more like boxing then street fighting. People should be able to go hard if they want not just a jab or cross every once in a while. Also the leg kicks piss me off. We obviously get the fact that Niko has good skills(Pulling off backfists, Back kicks, And round kicks) So he should be able to throw a decent leg kick. The melee and hand to hand needs to be improved for the game to have the right feel. Fights play alot into a GTA game and there should be more fist fights.

Also if it was improved i would have more fun in free roam fighting people smile.gif

They should have role-playing elements that revolve around crime and criminality, and not some bullsh*t with friends - it is a crime-oriented game after all, not the Sims.

You really gotta be pretty sad if you waste your time doing activities and trying to appease virtual videogame friends as opposed to using your time doing that with real friends.

You should instead try to further your relationship with different criminal factions and elements by doing things like dealing drugs or doing hits for them in mini-games. Attacking their interests would sour your relationship. There will also be consiquences - get on their good side and get a good rate at whatever they do - be it drive-bys on enemies of cheap smuggled guns. Get on their bad sides, and they'll send hitmen after you and attack once you enter their turf or businesses they control.

Much more interesting that wasting time doing things most normal people do with their friends anyway (but much less fun than in real life) - videogames are supposed to be a fantasy escape from our reality.

Only small things such as working ladders for fire engines, sirens without sound from emergency service vehicles. And as long as it doesn't take to much away from the main game and take up alot memory which could be used for more appropriate/related features.

so yes as long as it doesn't take anything away from the main game features.

Yes, but the PS3 and Xbox have only so many buttons. How could they do that? One tap lights, second tap sirens? Then hold down for alternative sound? That might work.

Yeah i enjoyed having those skills:

*muscle/fat

*stamina

*speed

*individual weapon skills

*piloting

*driving

*biking

ect/ect

All of those things are fun, it was not a massive thing but i did enjoy it to a point, it would not be that hard to implement.

I really enjoyed getting my biking/driving/flying skills up through the driving/boating/flying schools, it was entertaining, and it helped the character grow.

I don't think i would want to go so much more in depth than what San Andreas.

I'm all for more RPG elements in GTA. I want my character to be different from other people's character even though we are playing the same guy. I'm all for a vast skill tree that would be different for everyone depending on HOW YOU PLAY. If I fight alot, my guy should be a better fighter. I would also like multiple endings based on your actions. GTA IV introduced this and I would like to see them take it much further. I liked the muscle/fat bar in SA and I liked that he CJ would get hungry. I like the "friends" from IV also. Basically I would love for them to make GTA even more RPGish.

I think hell yes.

GTA IV reminded me of how much I mixed all the extra things crammed into San Andreas.

Bring on as many of these elements as possible, I say.

I didn't mind the RPG elements in SA. Only this time have things for specific criminal skills like gunman, driver, safe cracker etc.

Instead of having skill points to spend it should just go up in levels or ranks by accumulating XP. I really like this feature most games have.

I do not particularly have anything against this concept, but I think it has always been implemented poorly. If a character improves at a certain skill in real life, he is hardly going to be informed of that by a progress bar or whatever you want to call it.

For me, if your character is going to improve at a certain skill, then it should be something that happens naturally.

I actually didn't care for the muscle/fat from SA. It got way too tedious and it was superfluous. Basic skill trees for Combat (whether it be melee, CQC, rifleman or sniper) would be fine. I would be even be open to bringing back flight training and combat if they did have the godawful GTA 3 era flying physics.
