GTA_stu Posted June 20, 2011 Share Posted June 20, 2011 I wanted to play all the III era games again, but for the life of me I can't figure out where I put my old PS2. I also can't remember what I did with all my old games for that matter. I've got a "slim" PS3 now (120 GB ithink) so I was wondering whether if I bought all the III era games again if they would work on it. I'll Appreciate any help, thanks. Well if I don't get them from him, I guess I'll have to buy them again. Dunno how I'll play them though I've still got my old 60 GB fat PS3 which I think is backwards compatible, but it's knackered. Well I'm pretty desperate so I'll have to ask some friends if they've still got theirs. If not I'll have to buy 1. Anyway, the only PS3s that will play PS2 games are the 20/60GB (hardware) and some of the 80GBs (software, not compatible with every game.) It's why I got my 60GB PS3, because it has the actual PS2 hardware in it. d00d Posted June 21, 2011 Share Posted June 21, 2011 Its not a black and white issue. Get ready to tear your hair out. All PS3s will play PS1 games. Depending on which model you have though, it may play PS2 games at different qualities. The initial 60GB NA and the launch 60GB EU models have hardware emulation for PS2 games, meaning that they will play any PS2 game with about 70-80% graphics replication. You can usually tell one of these models if it has four USB ports and a memory card bay next to the slot loader, but the only way to be definitely sure is to check the serial. The 40 and 80GB models (I think) have software emulation, meaning that they only play select PS2 titles that have been supported to run. Sony's site can give you more info on what is supported. They run to about 40% graphics replication. And lastly, the slim PS3s don't support PS2 games. At all. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

"Oh I was just kidding" That's the oldest trick in the book my friend and I see right through it. Don't try and act like some whimsical joker when you get caught out. Plus if you were just trying to have a laugh and your intentions were so innocent then what's with the "people like you make me sigh". I clearly wasn't the only person who misread your "joke" or whatever it was that you were trying to do. Don't try blame other people for your weird jokes. I can take a joke, I can laugh at myself, but when i sees a troll I calls a troll. And your attempt to turn it round to make me try and seem like the bad guy is what really pissed me off.
