Resident Evil 2, booooiiiiiiii. My tax refund was pretty nice so I was able to cop this earlier than I'd expected, and I'm pretty overjoyed, especially since I'm one of the few big Resident Evil fans that... gasp... never played the original RE2 (by the time I REALLY got into the series in early '17, my PS3 had died (which I actually owned both 2 and Nemesis on digitally, but never got around to them and I wasn't about to buy second-hand copies for my old and barely kicking PS1 and Wii). I've really, really wanted to ever since that early '17, and I was heavily anticipating this remake back before it was even officially revealed, so finally having it in my hands and playing it is.. pretty awesome.

 

So far I'm only slightly into the RPD basement with Leon and I'm totally loving it. I started with Normal because I'm new to the game and kind of rusty on RE in general, but I'm strongly considering a Hardcore playthrough some time. If only because I kinda want the classic ink ribbon experience

Welp, seems my current goal in life is to make Capcom happy, because after buying Resident Evil 2, the very next day I went back to Best Buy and bought Onimusha.

 

 

This was one of those games I played as a kid that I LOVED but my mom was pretty horrified by its violence, haha (ironically, she was the one who got interested in the store and bought it...). I just loved how violent and creepy the whole thing was, and it also introduced me to Feudal Japanese folklore and monsters, which I found pretty rad. I've played a bit of the remaster (making this the first time I've played it since, jeez, 2001), and I think it holds up! Fighting is and holding O to suck up souls is just as fun as I remember it being, and while the graphics definitely show their age (especially the pre-rendered backgrounds), it runs so smooth and feels so clean.

 

Most notably, this is the first time I'm playing it in Japanese. I've only ever played it with the English voices, and... even as a kid I found it pretty hilariously awful "Even if I DIE... (awkward silence while Samanosuke's mouth is still moving and whoever translated it didn't bother writing enough dialogue there) I will DESTROY YOU!" Haha. Not quite "You were almost a JILL SANDWICH", but still a pretty good example of glorious classic Capcom cheese

f*ck the naysayers, vinyl is still the sh*t. I use a Marantz TT42P now but I've got a Soviet Radiotehnika Arija 102 back home which I'll get around to fixing someday.
