GTAspotter
The touchscreen is nicely implemented, imo. You still get the full QWERTY and trackpad, but the touchscreen is there if you want to use it. I'd imagine there is even a way to turn it off if you desire. Here's a pic of it: (No, I don't work for Blackberry nor do I own shares in it. I just know a lot about them and so am dishing out my knowledge and opinions). hmmmmmmmmm, it will probably be like £40 a month which i can't afford

SHXC
I charge my BBCurve everynight before I get into bed, and unplug it when I leave the house to begin my day. It's still around half full by the time I go to bed again. Leaving the Wi-Fi radio turned on is rumoured to be a battery drainer, so I turn that off too. My 2 pennies. Tsuroki
Although I swear by Google+Android, I've had both a BlackBerry Curve and Bold for my work phone. Earlier this year I swapped the Bold for the Torch with my boss because he couldn't stand the touchscreen/slider. That said, I'd recommend keeping your eye on the Bold line. It's my personal favourite out of all the BlackBerry products. As someone else mentioned, though, RIM is going through some hard times this year, so it'll be interesting to see where their product line stands six months from now. (Fill disclosure: My company is an enterprise partner of RIM/BlackBerry.)

d00d
All touchscreens are different. I had a HTC Touch which was awful, running Windows Mobile 6. The HP iPAQ I had before that which also had a resistive touchscreen and was 5 years older was far better. New capacitive touchscreens are much improved, but not without fault. The iPhones have the best screens I've ever seen (not a fanboy), and they have the best response and are the most usable. Something such as the screen on a Dell Streak are terrible as the response is shoddy and they have problems if they're on standby and take in heat (ie from your leg, while in your pocket) and don't respond. In short, you can't generalise about touchscreens.
