HarryBalls
Okay, I'm severely frustrated. I had modded GTA IV before, but only through Spark IV. And then I got this mod "Extreme Graphics and Realism Enhancement." So, I try to import and replace the files from the folder with Spark, but apparently Spark doesn't allow the replacement of .dat files or something or other. So, I go and just drag/drop the files into the corresponding folders in the GTA IV root folder. Everythings fine, but then GTA IV wont start. No error notification or anything. I click the icon, a command prompt type window opens as it normally does then goes away and GTA IV doesn't open. RGSC does the same thing without the command prompt. And running as administrator does the same thing as well. I'm really tired of uninstalling and reinstalling to try new things. Please give me a HINT!! And just recently when I reinstalled it and didnt mod it, just turned it on. I played it, but then it glitched out bad. Have I ruined my GTA IV experience all together because of my idiocy? NaidRaida
When you mod your game with whatever and experience some strange things or malfunction after adding whatever or even crash then go one step back. Make backups everytime you change something and in case of problems just step back. Normally Spark IV is used for importing/exporting vehicle models or textures. Sounds strange when you say you needed it for an graphic mod. Graphic mods are normally just drag and dropped files and no files which need to be implemented with Spark IV. I hope your game is not a cracked one, cause talkin about any cracks is strictly forbidden here. Is the game ready for modding? Do you patched the filelist.pak already? My steps to a working GTA IV base installation ready for modding (only suitable for original store version, no episodes installed): - Install the game - Patch to 1.0.3, 1.0.4 or 1.0.0.4 (cause they´re commonly stated as "best patches for modding") - Patch your filelist.pak file (pc/data/ folder) with this one: http://www.mediafire.com/?w4lj54pqxiocia6 Backup the original one! - Once the filelist.pak is overwritten you can start adding your mods. Make backups of every file you change, no matter how unrelevant it seems. If you are unsure what happened or which files has been changed already, you should reinstall! And everytime you change patch, you should reinstall. Good luck! GTA IV will cost you nerves that´s for sure! HarryBalls
I appreciate it, I really do. I'll try that out now. Dunno how to patch it to 1.0.0.4 but, I bought it at wal-mart awhile back and modded it awhile back. It just makes it better that this is my favorite game and that's why I'm so frustrated. I'll reply after I've done it and let you know how it went. Thanks man!
NaidRaida
Just download the official patch and install it. It´s self installing, really easy stuff. There are also already unpacked patch installers available out there where you have to overwrite the patched files manually but I wouldn´t recommend that. I always used a self installing patch (.exe). Official patches you can find here: http://www.gtainside.com/download.php?do=cat&id=
shbly12
I've been struggling with carcols etc modding, the modifications I made in those files just weren't accepted by the game. So if I do everything that you said it shouldn't make me any problems?
