XTREME0235
Hey guys. So as most of us (if not all of us) know that GTA San Andreas was the only GTA game in it's series to implement the robbery feature in regards to stealing things from civilians homes (I'm not talking about robbing stores like in Vice City). This feature was somewhat beneficial in certain ways in the sense that you could earn a huge amount of money by going into residents properties and steal there stuff with the character known as Ryder helping you out. Of course when doing this you only had a certain amount of time to get as much stuff out of the house as possible to earn more money. You also had to be careful with the amount of noise that you created whilst stealing things, which made it that more difficult and addicting (in my opinion). We didn't get to see this feature in GTA IV just like the many other features that were taken out from San Andreas. So I was wanting to get your thoughts on what it would be like if robbery was implemented into the next GTA title. Would you be a fan of it and if so, why? Verdant
I reckon it should return, It would be a great way to make money. Although I didnt mind the robberty in GTA SanAndreas but i guess they should improve on it more, Overall good topic
sonnyBlack
I'd be a fan of it returning for sure. I love exploring interiors and I love sneaking around and being stealthy. Robberies in SA gave me the opportunity to do both of those. I loved it that we got to drive around in a sinister looking burglary van too. There was lots of potential for it in IV given all the apartment and project buildings you could walk into, having some of the rooms accessible and robbable (I know it's not a word) would've been wonderful. Hopefully R* won't miss this opportunity in V. Edit: Typo. I somehow confused the word 'work' with 'walk'. XTREME0235
I strongly agree with what you're saying Sonny. There was indeed a lot of potential to see it in GTA IV. They could have tried to bring it back in TBoGT like they did with the Parachute, but I guess it might have been to intense of a feature for it at the time. It might not have made sense either if it was only in TBoGT and not in IV.

Kwandilibro
That, along with drug dealing. Robbery was awesome in SA. The only flaw was that the nights were too short. I also think that we should be able to use different vehicles for robbery, instead of just one. Furthermore, I think we should be able to rob stores and warehouse after dark. Zyo
I think it wasn't really in the character of Niko to be breaking into people houses and stealing their stuff, however I did like the feature in San Andreas and kinda missed it in IV. Would have been good in TLAD maybe. Coral_City
Would love to see it back... loved the feature in SA, and it's understable why it was removed from GTA 4 (as Zyonig mentioned). It'd be pretty cool to expand the robberies though by adding levels (from homes, stores, banks, prison breakouts), difficulty levels and recruits. Also, like Kwandilibro, different vehicles and a lot more time for the robbery. K, thx bai
K-52
Hell yeah the robbery was kick ass in SA it's one of the reasons SA my fav GTA off all-time and they should bring the barber shop back too I enjoyed seeing CJ with an Afro
reform
Of course it should. Not just SA-style house robberies, but holding up stores a bit like Vice City should come back too. Hell, it'd be great if it was possible to rob banks without being in a mission. But that should obviously be pretty tough compared to other robberies. Mokrie Dela
(talking about house burglaries: ) defo. In the Thames City story, I've included the feature, and i think it should be expanded. in mine and 02fishera's concept i've expanded it to allow the player to sneak in, kick the door open, wait until the resident is out, or simply kill them or tie them up. (Talking about stick-ups: ) Also yes. GTA should offer the player as much freedom as possible. It should be possible to interact with EVERYTHING, to a point where, if you can imagine it, it's possible. even go as far as robbing someone dressed a certain way and "framing" someone for it. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry
_GTAFREAK_
Back in the San Andreas times, i really liked that robbery thing! Despite it wasn't a nice and efficient way of making cash, it surely was a very funny secondary mission to spend your free time with! So i say YES to the return of the robbery missions, probably with some improvements like having a larger amount of items to rob, from all types... the hability of making a search for hidden money or weapons around the breakable houses, ya know, stuff like that ... GTA_stu
Well it seems like the OP means specifically burglary, and although it was an ok feature in SA it wasn't that fun imo. But I would definitely like armed robbery to return whereby you can stick up a store and take money from the cash register.
Banks.
It really does depend on what GTA V is based on I mean If It's like SA with the gangstas then It really does need to return but If It's a Mafia based then you should rob things like Warehouses not houses. Man I did enjoy robbing houses on SA
Mute Giant
I wanna break into a house at any time, through any door or window. I want there to be a variety of items to steal, from TVs and microwaves to antiques and art, and occationally a safe you can break into. And I want to have different contacts to sell stuff to. One specializes in art, one in Hi Fi ect. They all offer different prices for different Items. The timer in SA was stupid, but the noise-bar was good. Make it more challenging, unpredicatable and fun!

There weren't enough ways to make money in IV, or to spend it for that matter, but that's an issue for another topic.
WhistleBlower
Are you guys forgetting the fact that San Andreas and GTA IV utilized two completely different engines? You couldn't break into people's houses because the developers didn't render dozens of interiors to break into, interiors that you would enter with absolutely no loading times, and that'd just be for one district alone. Imagine what it would be like for the entire city. I'm sorry, but if you want to see this feature return then you'll have to wait for the introduction of next-gen consoles. There is not enough memory to do this kind of thing with the RAGE engine on current-gen consoles. And this is coming from someone who owns a PS3. Official General
I definitely wanna see the return of store hold-ups, like the kind we had in GTA: Vice City. I remember when playing Vice City in the early stages, I was constantly holding up stores and robbing them of their money - it was a nicely straightforward way of making some quick cash, especially when you were very low on funds to do start doing stuff like buying properties and businesses. Robbing stores in VC was also real fun to do aswell - I just loved it when the store clerk would press the alarm as soon as pointed the gun at him and took the money, I would instantly get a 3-star wanted level and right after that I would just blast him away with my sawed-off shotgun for alerting the police. The police chase that naturally came after was also real fun too, but the great thing about this feature in VC was that you could hold-up and rob as many stores as many times you wanted in quick succession and STILL have the police chasing you across the city !! You could even rob stores in VC during a main storyline mission. I just loved going on those store robbery sprees in VC anytime I felt like it, damn I really miss stuff like that !! I'd also like to see the home burglary feature from GTA:San Andreas make a return aswell. That was a brilliant feature, I can remember having a lot of fun doing that activity. However this time, I wanna see the player being able to burglarize buildings other than just ordinary, residential homes. It would be great if the player could burgle warehouses, cargo storage facilities, or even stores with very valuable goods like jewellery stores, in addition to holding them up aswell. I'd like to see a robbery system where the player can try to rob and steal drugs from a rival gang by invading their drug stashouses to sieze the drugs and cash in a stick-up, possibly ending up with a gunfight to go with it. Something similar to Drug Wars in Ballad of Gay Tony, but a bit more sophisticated. Another robbery feature that would be nice to add, would be to hijack shipments of goods from moving vehicles like trucks and vans. Maybe even boats or small cargo ships too, like a bit of modern-day piracy. All of this, is one thing that I felt GTA IV missed out quite a lot. GTA IV should have had most of features in the game, it would have been more fun if it had. Edited June 19, 2011 by Official General
LuisBellic
I hope it returns. All you could do in IV was a small clothing shop robbery.

There is not enough memory to do this kind of thing with the RAGE engine on current-gen consoles. And this is coming from someone who owns a PS3. And this is where improvisation comes into play. Rockstar didn't develop an interior for every building in GTA IV's world, we get that. But there are quite a few interiors that do exist keep in mind and in TBoGT especially there were more. The loading times for interiors weren't overly affected too much when entering them. You could notice a solid frame rate significance but nothing major to say that Rockstar couldn't go a little bit further. Sure they might not be able to go as extreme as adding an interior for each and every building, but what they did with IV was good enough in my opinion; just a little bit more is all I'm saying. Now considering I would like this topic to remain friendly and on topic, let's try and stick to the discussion about the robbery feature other than comparing hardware restrictions. Clayt0n
It would be cool, but it would also be awesome to have side-missions that have you rob a bank or something, or robbing a convoy, much like the "Three Leaf Clover" mission in GTA IV.
bluesboyjr
I think I'm the only one on this forum who didn't like SA's burglary missions. I found them boring, repetitive and not worth the effort, but it appears that it's just me. It also felt too petty, too small-time: when your protagonist spends his time stealing jetpacks from the military and staging casino heists, breaking into houses to take hi-fis just doesn't seem right. Although I much enjoy Off. General's prospect of robbing things like warehouses. You could go in from the stealth angle and take out the security guards from the shadows, or go in all guns a-blazing and have to evade the cops in a truck full of stolen goods. Plus, stealing something like drugs or weapons would be more rewarding than someone's old TV. I wouldn't mind seeing VC's store robberies return, provided of course that you actually see the clerk reach into the register to take money out instead of your counter just going up. ajrunke
I tried APB for free before its release and that is the only thing the partially got right. Overall that game blew major donkey nuts, but it was a hell of a lot of fun jumping in a car with 4 people and ramming the car into the storefront and being forced to carry the loot to your truck. It was a rush. That would be a nice addition to the robbery system.
XTREME0235
Edited the OP so it's more clearer for people on what I'm talking about. Your ideas are great guys, if however the feature to rob stores was implemented (completely different story) then I also wouldn't mind seeing it. It could be a fun and new experience for people in the sense that as an example you go and decide to rob a gun store, like in Vice City the cashier either gives you the money or he holds his gun at you and starts to shoot you. This could also be added for burglary, if you happen to break into an ex army soldiers house/apartment then I doubt you would have fun trying to negotiate that with him.
