oldage
RIGHT NOW IT'S JUST A TECH DEMO. PUBLIC DEMO: http://projectzomboid.com/blog/index.php/2...-demo-released/ (torrent) http://mitsuma.de/files/ProjectZomboid_Pub...Demo_0_1_4c.zip (direct download) Other useful links: User Maintained Wiki, Community forums, Blog, Buy the game Project Zomboid is a zombie survival RPG for Windows, Mac and Linux. The game is currently in a pre alpha phase and is being made by independent developers, The Indie Stone. The game will be developed in a similar style to Minecraft, where there will be continual updates that people who have bought the game will have access to. These updates will add new features, weapons, game-play and locations. Here are some of its planned features: Retro-isometric style with plenty of zombie insides thrown in for good measure. A massive city and the surrounding areas to traverse, explore and loot. Open-ended sandbox world – survival is your only goal, and we’re sorry to tell you… you WILL die eventually. Get infected. How will you spend your final days? Will you have a heroic moment of self-sacrifice, or end up chewing your best friend’s throat out? Meet other survivors who you can join forces with, trade with, undertake missions for, or fight with for resources. Loot, salvage, and build what you need to survive the apocalypse, from food and medical supplies, to weapons, even just booze to help get you through the nights. Advanced item crafting allows you to use looted items to build weapons, traps, defenses, and many other things to help you survive. Character progression. Learn skills and perks to help your character face the challenges of survival. Starvation, illness, loneliness, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, insanity, trust issues. There’s more to zombie survival than shooting zombie heads off. Join your friends and survive the apocalypse together in co-op multiplayer. The world changes the longer you survive; power plants fail, plunging the city into darkness and making batteries and tinned food prized commodities. The army rolls into the streets to perform ‘clean up operations’ and other gamechanging events occur the longer you survive. Play in your browser, or stand-alone, on PC, Mac and Linux. It will be released Minecraft style, where there will be continual updates adding new features, weapons, game-play and locations. Some screenshots Give this game a shot now that it has a public demo, and if you think about buying, you can purchase it (right now 'on hold') it by buying their other games of £5, £10 and £15. Oh, and it probably has one of the best soundtracks I've heard. and to people passing this game because of how it looks (e.g. the sprites), your loss. Remix
Wow... the games not even released and you judge it merely on graphics alone? It's an indie game, relax. There's a specific indie game that I'm sure you're all aware of which has done quite well, even with the pixelated graphics. I thought I'd post some videos, as it's hard to judge the game on three screenshots alone. I seriously love the idea of "Survive, Build, Defend", especially when there is four developers behind the idea. Will keep an eye on this for sure. Edited June 19, 2011 by Remix. Xboxless
Looks interesting. I wanna game that will put the fear back into zombies, L4D just made them into an action thingy. Someday, I want a realistic zombie game.
d0mm2k8
Looks interesting. I wanna game that will put the fear back into zombies, L4D just made them into an action thingy. Someday, I want a realistic zombie game. To be honest, realistic and zombie don't really fit in the same sentence. I'm not bothered by isometric sprites (I love Fallout 1 and 2) but something seems iffy about this game. I suppose it's because it's still just a tech demo as a of now. Fireman
Been a while now since this first post, almost 4 years, the game has a new engine and looks a lot better. New animations are coming as well, regular updates ove the past 4 years, but a lot of weird updates as well. You figured they'd focus on finishing the features that were promised (NPC's is currently the #1 uthing that was added in a previous build, around 2 years ago, but then removed again when they switched to another engine), but instead they keep adding more features that the community wants, which I GUESS is fine since it's an indie game without a deadline. Still I enjoy this game a lot, online community is good, there are PvE, PvP and RP servers, so something for everyone.
Ss4gogeta0
as an Indie developer myself, I like the cut of its jib... might play it later...
Fireman
This game is getting fantastic updates ever since they started, currently it's on build 34 and there's a lot of stuff in the works, including more weapons/ammo and an entire animation system overhaul;
Coin
Is there decent AI yet so you're not just a solo survivor in singleplayer?
Fireman
Nope, I'm not sure if they gave up on NPC's entirely or not (due to the popularity of multiplayer), but there hasn't been any mention of NPC's in a few months. Then again they were quite ambitious to what they want NPC's to do. They don't want NPC's to "cheat" like in other games, where they usually give NPC's unlimited resources and only set a limit to the amount of stuff they can build in a certain time period. It seems like they really want NPC's to run around gathering items. My expectations for NPC's would be ~2019.
Coin
It's a shame because it's something I've been waiting on for quite a long while now because solo survivor stuff just doesn't fill me with any sort of excitement or joy these days and no friends who play the game to get an interesting (to me) multiplayer game going. There's Survivalist as an alternative, I suppose, but there's something about that game that I can't get into. I think State of Decay spoiled me, in that regard, at least as a starting point. Not without its own issues though; too much babysitting involved in the process.
Fireman
I don't know, I finished State of Decay but it was just so mweh, you don't really build anything, you just fill up slots, you don't craft anything, you don't need to survive really, because you can only die by zombies, it just wasn't very challenging and isn't what a survival game should be about. PZ has all the ingredients (plus a ton of extra's) to be completely awesome, but they just keep adding and adding extra's without ever finishing key components (which is fine as long as they are actually still working on those key components, but that's what I have my doubts about). Online can be really fun though, just join a PvE server and join someone's group or start your own. I made a base for anyone to join in multiplayer before it was great; You can see my OCD with containers there, each container should have a function Edited May 31, 2016 by Fireman
