Help for a New Modder

I am new to modding GTA IV and I have found that I am addicted to it. =) Yet, I have found myself stuck. I have added cars, replaced cars, added weapons, skins, etc. The one thing I can not do is change the names of the cars. For example, I have replaced the Admiral with a Cadillac CTS-V, but when I drive one the game still says Admiral. What I want to do is change that, to read Cadillac CTS-V whenver I get in one of them. How do I do that? I have two or three GXT editors, but I can't find the car list, nor figure out what I need to do and the help files might as well be wrtitten in Gaelic for all I can understand. Can someone please help? A walkthrough, you tube video something? Thanks y'all.

you need to download X GXT editor and open and edit american.gxt file in the text folder(i think it's common/text but not sure)

Take this tool: http://www.x-squares.com/File/i/47/X-GXT-Editor.aspx#dl-1 (X GXT Editor v2.0 final by Xmen)

Once you installed it open your specific text file (common/text/ folder).

Then choose "MAIN" from the left side list and then you have to scroll down a bit on the right side until you find all the car names. Then you can rename your cars for your wishes.

 

I strongly recommend to use this tool instead of other ones because I experienced problems with other text editors that have problems with patches above 1.0.4.0.

This tool seems to work for every patch I used so far (1.0.3, 1.0.4, 1.0.0.4).
