WindGain
Well, my GTA:SA doesn't want to start after 4 years of playing it. I'm using Windows 7. No mods installed. I was looking at other threads to see if there was a solution. I tried: - Windows 98. - Run as administrator. - Delete gta_sa.set. - Uninstall and reinstall GTA:SA. Unfortunately, all of those tips didn't help it start. When I click on it, the theme goes to Windows 7 Basic and then goes back to normal after 1-3 seconds. Looking to see if there is any way to fix it. Thanks.
Girish
Open up Windows Task Manager. Do you see "gta_sa.exe" running in Processes? If yes, try changing it's priority to High and see if it works then.
WindGain
When the screen went Windows 7 Basic, "gta_sa.exe" was running in Processes but disappeared 1-3 seconds later when the screen went back to normal so I wasn't able to change it's priority to High since it goes away before I am able to click it. Girish
Right-click on the game's shortcut > Properties > Compatibility > Disable visual themes. Now, try again. BTW, do you remember what changes you made to your system before the game stopped working?
WindGain
Just tried the Disable visual themes thing and it still didn't work. The last thing that I did before this started happening was install Microsoft Security Essentials and do a full scan which removed "trainer.exe" but I know that it doesn't affect the game. lil weasel
Are you playing with the Original DVD Disc in the Drive? What were you using "trainer.exe" for?
Girish
Have you tried disabling Microsoft Security Essentials? There's a possibility it's interfering with the game.
WindGain
@lil weasel: Yeah, I'm using the Original DVD Disc. I didn't use "trainer.exe" for anything. It was just there and it got removed. @Girish: If you don't mind me asking but how can I disable it?
Girish
Click Start -> in Search programs and files type Services.msc and hit the Enter key ->In the Service window scroll down to the service Microsoft Antimalware Service and set the Startup Type to Manual or Disable . -> Click Apply and close open windows then restart the computer. To disable real-time protection only : Open MSE -> click Settings and under real-time protection -> uncheck the option Turn ON real-time protection Try disabling real-time protection first. If that doesn't help, then disable it altogether.
WindGain
Tried both of them and it didn't work.
Girish
Disable all running applications before starting the game. I mean everything - anti-virus and all. If it still doesn't work, then I'm afraid the only option left would be System Restore to the point when the game worked.
TheNathanNS
aside from MSE what was the last program you installed? like AVS Video Editor for example (that wouldnt effect it but im just using as an example) try uninstalling any unwanted programs to free up space and hopefully you'll get rid of the program interfering with gta_sa.exe
WindGain
Disable all running applications before starting the game. I mean everything - anti-virus and all. If it still doesn't work, then I'm afraid the only option left would be System Restore to the point when the game worked. Just tried that and it didn't work sadly. Even more saddening is I don't remember the last time that it worked since I haven't played it in a while. aside from MSE what was the last program you installed? like AVS Video Editor for example (that wouldnt effect it but im just using as an example) try uninstalling any unwanted programs to free up space and hopefully you'll get rid of the program interfering with gta_sa.exe Teamspeak 3. I installed it before and GTA:SA still worked. Try and do these things........REINSTALL YOUR WINDOWS! From what I said in my first post, it explained most of that. It still didn't work and I'm not risking re-installing Windows. I also came across this to see if this could be what was affecting it: C:\Users\????\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\52\14eeebf4-41304505 file:C:\Users\????\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\52\14eeebf4-41304505->direct/bear.class If it doesn't help, oh well. Spider-Vice
I don't think so as GTA doesn't use Java. let your hopes and dreams turn into burning fire! WindGain
Oh well, I guess there are no more ways to get it working I guess unless someone has something different I can try.
