The prisoners climbing the wall is a very nice detail. icon14.gif

And, who is going to place the new submissions into the old block, or are we making a brand new one?

Viddy has the block saved as .psd file, so he can just move each "block" around how he wishes.

Added the darker blank block to first post, nice job on your first building.

You can use this tutorial to learn the basics.

These are some great submissions, and hence the reason I ain't submitted mine since, everytime I see one of yours posted, I want to change mine and improve it. Am like 60% done on mine now, just adding some finishing touches.

That roof is still looking dodgy to me, but no biggie. smile.gif

Nice job Rojo, looks awesome for a first try,

Unrated, you should make the shadow cast on bushes, other than that is great

Monsta, there is no empty space next to the building, use this for better precision (street view map)

Been playing WAAAAAAAAY too much MW2 lately

Thinking about adding a Harrier and detailing a land battle. Only spent about 20 minutes so far getting the shape right.

edit - and yeah I know it's literally 25-30 feet off the ground right now.

@Rojo.: How can that be your first try? That's absolutely amazing!

Giving this a try too. Don't know what I am making, but it has a parking lot!

Oh, and what programs do you guys use? Paint is limited, but Photoshop is a bit tedious. Is there any software specifically for pixel art?

I made mine with photoshop, select stuff with rectangular marquee tool, so you have crisp squares.

Thanks, I've been reading many tutorials on this stuff and took my time, just requires a lot of patience.

All of you guys are doing a fantastic job, looking forward to see future submissions.

Agree with the thing about photoshop being tedious, thats why I'm using GraphicsGale, it's not better than photoshop by any chance but I just find it easier to work on these kind of things.

The thing I like about Paint is the line tool. You can see the line you are about to draw pixel to pixel, but on Photoshop, it's a rectangle and then it makes a shape thing, not just pixels on a layer. confused.gif

Rojo: Amazing work on your first piece, I really hope to see a couple more submissions from you.

Vicedog: I fixed the highlight on your roof so you don't need to update it now. I like your basketball court, skylights and ambulance, bro. user posted image

Monsta: I haven't added your building yet because it seems kind of boring compared to the rest of the city. Do you think you could throw some air-conditioners, skylights or something else on the roof? You know, to spice it up a little more?

Narcis: Lovely. icon14.gif

Vasilyrud: Nice job, I especially like the hammer sign. And thanks for pointing out the messed template, you saved me a headache.

Unrated: Added your house despite the fact that it's as big as a department store. happy.gif

I still do 80% of my work in Paint and usually only move over to PS for a shadow layer or maybe opacity changes for windows if it's a large-scale piece. I just like how simple Paint is and like Edmachine said, its line tool is the bomb.

Anyhow, update:

Still got some touches to do, and am not actually that happy with the outcome. Meh, I can count this one as a test. Few problems though, I can't do pixel text so am f*cked on what to do with the white signs, and also, lack of detail.

Any suggestions/critiscm/comments?

*Edit*...sh*t, I kinda suck. confused.gif

Couple quick things that might make it seem a little less bland:

- another door by the bus, with maybe a row of windows on the ground floor

- at least a couple windows on the left side of the building

- small paved area with concrete benches or something in front of the main entrance

- vents, pipes, air-conditioners, etc. for the roof

- shadow on the right side as Rokas mentioned

- maybe even a bit of texture on some surfaces (gravel on the roof, stucco or brick on the walls)

Also, that tutorial Narcis posted had a little section about text. I'd definitely try that out if you're unable to draw some iso text.

Cheers guys. It wasn't until I'd posted it that I noticed how bland it looked. I've been concentrating on getting the main shape finished, and just need to get some detail on it now. Was even worse as I started out without knowing what I was creating, so am stuck now. Cheers. smile.gif
