Because he's a bit of a psychopath, doesn't take sh*t from anyone and is the only protagonist that became his own man working for himself - and he does that reasonably early on in the game too, like 1/3 of the way through. He does his own thing, takes whatever he wants and kills whoever gets in his way. Other protagonists have the tendency to just follow orders and b*tch a lot. CJ because of all the over the top things he did, and I got a kick out of his comments in game. And Niko for his backstory that lead to his cynical outlook on life. I really liked CJ as well, they were both pretty badass, both were funny, they both had smartass comments rolled up their sleeve and both ended up with their own business/empire thing, they both made it to the top. His hawaiian shirt was a bit sh*t too, I mean the 80's was all about bright suits and big collars with roled up sleaves, NOT hawiian shirts. You say that it's ok for Tony Montana to wear one because you claim he's a special case but clearly you don't know sh*t about Montana because if you did, you wouldn't have had to google to find out he wore hawaiian shirts. Vice City is largely inspired by Scarface. I have seen gangsters wearing hawaiian shirts in other films before. I'll admit that I can't think of any examples off the top of my head, but I have definitely seen them. I reckon if more gangster films were set in Miami and the like, we'd see a lot more of them. Plenty of characters / actors have worn hawaiian shirts. From Elvis to Sinatra, James Bond to Magnum P.I. etc. Anyway, man up and get one, son. First of all, I don't seem to think that I have some kind of authority on what fictional characters can wear. I know that I have that authority. Secondly, I've seen scarface 4 times, I even played the scarface game on PS2 (which was actually really awesome), I knew he wore those things. I just needed something to jog my memory. So the quick google images search was just my subconscious' way of reminding myself, that's what I'm going with anyways. Now ok I'll give you that hawaiian shirts look on good on some guys, but it looks stupid on Tommy. And in my mind it wasn't the quintessential 80's outfit. Pastel coloured suits with big collars and rolled up sleeves with aviator sunglasses, that's what was needed. And my main gripe was with Tommy, he's fat! The fact that your first paragraph is utter bullsh*t doesn't help either. If you'd really seen scarface, never mind four times and played the game, you wouldn't have forgotten. As for the shirt not being "the quintessential 80's outfit", I don't recall anyone saying it was. There were multiple outfits and the Soiree outfit was available after the first mission anyway so I don't see what the problem is. Unlike you however, I suspect Tommy was far more interested in taking over Vice City than worrying about what was in fashion at the time. Yes it's the 80's, but it's also meant to be Miami, and hawaiian shirts are pretty appropriate there. Watch any film set in Miami, there's always guys wearing those shirts. Half of the Miami metro homicide department seem to wear them in Dexter. I think you need to get over this obsession with the protagonist's appearance. And it was the quintessential 80's outfit to me, and Tommy would've looked a lot better in it. I'm not obsessed by the appearance but seeing as how this topic is about Tommy, his outfit is pretty relevant. I stand by the "his hawaiian shirt sucks". It looks great on him, but the thread is about why people love Tommy. Not his taste in fashion. Anyway I've always liked him, because he controls his own destiny. He wanted to bring down all of VC's big players and he far exceeded it. I also respect that he done it virtually from scratch. Tommy is awesome, but I'm by no means biased or anything.
