When did you first fall in love with GTA?

When did you first realise that you had an affection for the GTA series? We've all played good games before and thought "OMG THIS RULEZ!" but it takes a special game to make you go the extra step and really adore it and go crazy for every little scrap of info. For me (and I'm sure for most who are reading this) GTA is by far my most loved game series.

For some it might have been when they were watching a cutscene, for others it might have been simply when they saw a clip of a GTA game, or for others it might have been the first time they played it. When was your "moment"?

Peronally for me it wasn't when I first played it. I first played GTA 2, and whilst I thought it was really good, it didn't have that something special. My "moment" came when I was at my best friends house, his older brother had just bought a PS2 and picked up GTA III along with it (this was a couple of days after III was released I think). Anyways we were watching his brother play it in his room and were totally blown away. I remember watching him drive around in a coach smashing into things, and going on foot with a baseball bat hitting people. Then I remember him putting in the gun cheat, pulling out an asault rifle and obliterating everyone in front of him. And the graphics took my breath away.

Then his brother had to go do an errand, leaving us with with the game! I almost jizzed in my pants with excitement. When I took my first go I was so happy. It only lasted about 2 minutes because I drove my car off the Callahan bridge but damn those 2 minutes were seriously good.

VC. As much I enjoyed GTA 1, 2 and 3 VC was really the first GTA that made me fall in love with the series.

The different tone of it compared to the first 3 games is what appealed to me. I remember going to Ken's office and instead of jumping into the Admiral I went around the corner and punched a cop earning a wanted star lol.

That moment is when I realized that this would be my most loved game franchise. 9 years on and it still is.

I inlove.gif GTA forever.

Hmmm nice bike

It would have to be Vice City for me, as well, I just loved everything about it when I first played it! The characters, the atmosphere, the music, the missions, etc. While I had played the other games in the series before, VC was the one that really got me hooked on icon14.gif I make sure to play through the story once every summer now, and whenever I do, it always bring back some good memories of playing through for the first few times.

Although I've been a fan of GTA since 98, I didn't actually fall in love with the series until I played GTA III. I was astonished the second the opening cutscene ended and I took control of my character. Seeing the world of GTA in 3D for the first time blew me away and I knew at that instant that I was going to be hooked on this game and any future installments.

Nearly 10 years later I still find myself in awe by the series, the world R* managed to create with this franchise continues to fascinate me to this day.

First one I played was San Andreas in my cousin's house. Damn, those were the good times wink.gif

He was showing me and my other friend his brand new PS2 and said the graphics were amazing (which I now find ridiculous tounge.gif) and stuff.

So he got out five games:

-San Andreas

-Some FIFA game or something like that...

-NHL 2004 (I think monocle.gif ?)

-An unknown motocross game

-And Tekken (or was it...)

So my friend chose San Andreas because she liked the cover best and we started shooting people's heads off.

My cousin also started shooting people in the crotch and we laughed our heads off.

Finally, his mom came in and told us that violence would destroy our brains or something like that and we turned it off.

Ah, good times icon14.gif

The earliest I remember is playing San Andreas with my friend; it was their brother's, but they would always bring it to my house and I would play it for hours on end. I believe I was 11.

I'd play it so much they'd have to turn of the system just to pull me away from it. XD

We never really played the missions: just drove around like retards, killing random pedestrians and whatnot.

I'm pretty sure thats a rule of physics. Everyone has to do it

Similar story for me, my mate had a ps2(most I had was a gameboy color) and we played it round there shortly after loving driver 2. I became obsessed with the city and design and me and my mate started drawing our own maps.

Vc was announced and my love grew. I'm too young for true 80s nostalgia but I defo felt the vibe. Finally I got the game for pc(As I had done with iii) and also like iii eventually started modding it. I modded the sh*t out of the games.

Sa added to the love and iv just blew them out of the water smile.gif I don't mod no more tho, sa ran badly on my pc and I switched to consoles

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I bought the original GTA around the time it came out for Playstation and rally enjoyed it, and bought GTA2 as well. Back then it wasn't my favourite series but I was a fan.

Then when GTA3 came out my friend had it for his PS2. He showed it me at his house and I loved it straight away and thought it just felt miles better than anything else I had ever played. Within days I had bought a PS2 and a copy of GTA3. This was early December 2001. I have loved the series ever since and still think it's better than any other. Although Red Dead Redemption runs it close. colgate.gif

Every major GTA since has been a release day purchase for me, I even bought a PSP a few months after LCS came out just so I could buy it. That and CTW are the only ones I have not bought on release day since the original Vice City.

Flesh-n-Bone

I have a special love for action so I went into it knowing that it consisted of doing all kinds of crimes. From there I knew this was going to be a game that roll with me for the rest of my life.

I played a little bit of GTA 2 for the Dreamcast and I thought it was alright. Not bad but nothing truly extraordinary either. Obviously GTA III is my favorite game in the series, but it wasn't until I saw some footage of Vice City -- gameplay footage of a yellow sports car flying through the streets -- that I became somewhat obsessed with the series. I wonder if anyone here can track down that specific trailer. When I bought Vice City and played through it for the first time I was just really impressed with how different it was from its predecessor. Better cutscenes, motorcycles, a memorable soundtrack, flawless 1980s atmosphere etc. It didn't have any subways or things like that but it was still a pretty amazing game to play.

Although the first GTA I played was GTA2, and the 1st GTA I really liked was Vice City, it wasn't until San Andreas came out back in late October 2004 that I knew GTA was gonna be my favorite series, and it was also the first GTA I fell inlove.gif with. I remember when I jizzed the first time I saw how much San Andreas had compared to previous games. I remember buying it for the PS2 the day it came out (October 26, 2004) and my mind was blown away the first time I played. It had everything I was hoping for. Parachutes, swimming, climbing, trains, airplanes and jets, a huge map with lots of variety, burglaries, no load screens when travelling across different districts, character and vehicle customization, bikes, hovercrafts, gang wars, and so much more.

6 years later, and GTA is still my favorite video franchise. I have a special love for it that I don't have for any other video game franchise - not even Saints Row.

My experience with GTA started in March 2008, when my friend gave me a disc with GTA San Andreas. I liked the game very much, but this was not what made me fall in love with the series.

It was GTA Vice City, which, strangely enough, I got from our physics teacher, who played this game at that moment, in October 2009, that made me fall in love with the series. At first I fell in love with that particular game, wanting to play it more and more. Then I went further and got me a Vice City Stories disc for my PS2.

Then in May 2010 I got me a GTA:III, which sealed my love with the series.

So, I can honestly say it was Vice City that ignited my love for the games in the whole

I always loved the series but the reason I fell in love with it is a bit more personal.

I was a senior in high school when San Andreas came out. A friend of mine came over to play the game, and after persistence on his part and hers, I reluctantly allowed my 11 year old sister to watch us play. As I'm playing one of the two player segments, my sister locates a strip club on the inserted folded map that came with the game. My friend abandoned the two player segment, and before you know it..

My 11 year old sister and my friend are reading from the inserted map, navigating me across Los Santos.....looking for the Pig Pen.

Uh, it was pretty weird. moto_whistle.gif

The very first second I slipped Vice City into the CD tray of my PS2. The first mission was driving to Rosenberg's law office, I believe. From then on I was a fan, I was... IN LOVE with GTA. It didn't take much more than that for me, I'm the easily suggestable type, I get addicted and hooked on new things quite quickly. But, yeah, from the moment I played Vice City I became a fan.

Best video game series ever.

When I was 8 (or something like that, I honestly have no idea anymore), my friend brought his copy of GTA 2 over for us to play. I was hooked instantly. We never even got to the first mission. We just took turns going on rampages, killing everyone and everything in sight. I remember laughing my ass off when I set people on fire with the flamethrower, watching them run around screaming, and then drop dead.

I spent a lot of time with that game.
