ikt
Hello! I want to make a custom HUD for GTA IV, but how do I do that? I looked into the speedo script, but I don't understand the rendering part. Is there anywhere a tutorial for making such stuff? Also some functions are faulty, is that because of missing files?

ikt
hey mando you know anything about scripting? i'm asking because i want to learn this stuff and nobody's helping here i'd gladly help you with this but as you see i'm new to this 100% Scripting itself is quite easy. What do you want to use? I recommend using the .net thingy found here: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=392325 Using this is much easier if modifying world things like cars and peds. It would be useful if you had a concrete goal in mind. Not something like a personalised trainer, but more something like: 'I want to be able to teleport to whereever I want.'. Then you go looking for some tutorials (I don't know any for .net, but there should be plenty. Also I highly recommend you to use Microsoft Visual C++ 2010, because that makes coding much easier when using Intellisense.
Mr. Violence
i do have a goal in mind.but unlike those usual trainers and stuff, something like contact missions mod by hippiecomunist, only with more features.I read somewhere .net is easier but i can't find absolutely any tutorials for gta 4 that i need and hippiecomunist apparently won't help just like the whole community here since i've posted a topic on my project where i asked for ppl who wanted to join and tutorials which would help me learn. If you know .net or C# or whatever, maybe you could join me and help me out. ikt
For .net you could check out some scripts. But first of all, you should know the basic programming language before attempting scripting. Once you get that, intepreting other peoples source/script isn't hard. Also bump?

Plenty of people are willing to and do help all the time dude, MulleDK19 has an IRC channel setup dedicated to the .NET hook and also there is a "Writing new scripts" section in Hazards main thread which has a reference guide for the classes in his hook, there are examples in the package also (developers folder), google has thousands of C# or VB tutorials also, it's all out there dude, you just have to look. About your project thread, it's been posted many times, I've not looked in the thread but I'm sure it will be something like: "I have this awesome idea and I'm looking to build a team, I can't mod right now but I'm willing to learn so if you want to join just PM me etc..." The people who can mod and have taken the time to learn how to do it see that and think "yeah right, your project name, my work, no thanks", nobody is going to show interest until you show examples of your current progress and willingness to work hard for your goal. Not trying to offend you or be negative, just passing on my opinion from what I've seen in the past dude.
Mr. Violence
@ ikt i can understand some scripts(though i haven't really opened any of gta 4's but have tried on other games) but i can't write my own stuff i don't know where to start i have a goal i know what i want just don't know what to focus on exactly so i could understand how the scripts work. i searched for some gta 4 related scripting tutorials but with no luck.i learned some basic a while ago but it was very little.I really want to learn this thing but like i said, don't know where to start/look. @ denny78 dude if you read the post you'd see that i also asked ppl to point me to some tutorials, so i didn't just say "you work and i watch and take the credit" i said i wanted to learn as well. i never said my idea was awsome, i just said that it would give players a totally new way to play the game.I aslo said that i'd explain the idea to those interested. I have no idea what an IRC channel is and how to get there. i looked for tutorials but with no luck that's also why i wanted people to joni me, so i could learn from them. I'm not even sure what tools i need to start scripting.I have notepad++ and Microsoft visual studio 2005 Thank you for pointing out somebody who is willing to help i'll definately contact them

Like I said I wasn't trying to be negative towards you I was just pointing out how things work in my experience. An IRC channel is basically a chat channel, click here and click "NO, use browser", if nobody is there then save the link and go back later to chat about and get help with the .NET scripts. I went and grabbed a few C# (.NET) tutorials for you dude: Click me. Click me. You will need the C# IDE from here to create the scripts (compiled ones), it's free to use. Make sure you have the 4th framework installed also, grab it here. Once you have all that installed then open up the IDE (C# express) and start using the tutorials and testing codes etc. I don't want to take up any more of the Ops thread being off topic dude so try the above out and see how far you get. @OP Sorry for off topic dude, I know nothing about your question as I've not done any gfx drawing for ages, since the examples first came out. ikt
something about a train derailing... Okay, I'll learn the entire d3d9 thing then. Might become handy so why not learn it now? But if you somehow feel like helping, I'm not stopping you. Edited June 17, 2011 by ikt
