Once again, with the development of the internet and the phone in IV, I cannot see Rockstar abandon this by going to an earlier decade. Plus, with the widespread use of smartphones, Rockstar can amalgamate the two. I'm betting 2012.

I voted the 70's.

 

It's an era that hasn't been done before, but that has great potential. The cars , weapons, planes, bikes, helicopters and what not are sufficiently abundant, advanced and varied to allow for great 'modern day' gameplay. This, combined with the music from those days (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, ....) and with cities like Vice City, Las Venturas and their respective surrounding countrysides, would most definitely make my day. But then again, this is rather wishfull thinking then an educated guess.

 

I even doubt it will be the 70's. My gut feeling tells me R* is going to further expand on the internet and mobile phone idea.

Due to the 24051972 thing on that plane in TBOGT, I actually think , and hope, that it's set in the 70's. Alot of speculations turns pointers to VC or Washington. We'll know in a bit more than 2 days, hopefully.

I`m hoping for modern day. 2012 onwards but not too futuristic.

I hope R* watched and listened to some fans with the new game.

 

As some of the mods people where making for gta iv, they were just brilliant and would love to see similar things like car modding, even if just a basic level like SA did, a garage for exhausts body kits and wheels etc would be a great start.

By the looks of it, they're taking what they did with IV, its DLCs, and CTW, and making it take place in the year it releases (which is likely to be 2012).

If it's in 2012 they could really play on the whole Doomsday thing, It'd be fun to see some people freak out about it and the city fall apart and people fighting and going crazy because it's 'their final days'.

 

But I think it'll be set around 2009/2010 if I'm honest, which is cool.

I think it's going to be in a relatively modern time, over the past couple of years. If I had to stick my neck out on the line, I'd go for 2011, as that's when they probably wrote a lot of the story itself.
