I think the music is an important matter. Radio stations in GTA series have always been very eclectic, ergo I don't think they will go any deeper than the '70s, to keep the wide variety of music.

I think it will possibly mimic a real story and setting, like vice did.. So the time frame depends on location, and what interesting crime pasts, current or new setting trends, of that location is.

I agree. the technology side of things in GTA wasn't really that interesting to me. I was sort of doing menial mundane acts in a game that I do in real life all the time anyway. GTA for me is a time to do things in a 'real-world' environment that I can't really do in real life.

 

Also, Saints Row is doing the modern day thing. What set GTA apart was that we got to explore different eras as a character we just can't do anymore.

 

Vice City came out before all this 80's revival and you see how much fun it was for people. I'd like to see 70's or 80's again. Although, it all depends on where it's set. Vice City in the 80's was perfect because it was a definitive time in Miami. So, Rockstar needs to find a defintive time in whatever city it may set it in.

voted for 2000-2011 but that was before I was reading that they could make doomsday/Planet X references if it's in the present. That would be funny as hell

Or maybe even include an unexpected mission where you have to find and and kill an alien. Nothing over the top like SR 3 though. that would be dope

This would definately bring back the fun of GTA

 

I got other things to do but I can't stay away from this forum. I'm hyped, almost everbody I know is hyped.

Even though I liked the cell phone and the internet in IV, I'd love the next GTA to be set in the past, especially the late 60s/early 70s (i.e. during the Vietnam war). There is so much they could do with this setting, working for government agents, hippies, Black Panthers etc... and the cold war replacing IV's terrorist threats as the main theme of the news. And I haven't mentionned cars, classic muscle cars of course, and maybe some european cars of that time too (like the Jaguar E-Type, Alfa Guilia Spider or a 60s Mercedes S-Class). And one hell of a soundtrack!

 

 

That said, I highly doubt V will be set in that timeline, unfortunately we're likely to play in a modern setting for the second time in a row. Too bad, I liked the way the GTA games from the III-era made us visit 3 different decades.

I voted for 2012. I think either that or 2011 tbh. With the lengths Rockstar went to to develop the mobile/cell phone and the internet for the player in IV, with the now widespread use of SmartPhones I can only see them sticking with the modern day to develop this aspect of interactivity....

 

As a side note, I'm curious to see what Rockstar's take on Apple and especially 'RIM' would be !
