If you could develop GTA V protagonist...

In the recent GTA games R* has developed some of the most intriguing characters in a video game. Characters that make you feel for what they're going thru...if you could create the protagonist for GTAV who would he be? Heck who would SHE be? Let those creative minds flow! What would their background be like??

And go!!

an insomniac, stereotypically Fight Club style "that is a shame I just killed 40 people gang members because I get paid for it", but bi-polar/split personalities, so one moment he can be blunt and dull, the next he'd switch be angry as f*ck, perhaps it could affect gameplay? the dull moments, he'd be better at aiming and driving controls would be normal, however at the times of anger, he'd spray bullets but be more precise from the hip and would reach top speed quicker in vehicles but the controls be a lot more twitchy

Develop? I though you meant developing the game, not shaping the characters.

As for me, I don't care what R* gives me, I'm happy with it. We've already got a Hispanic drug dealing assistent, American biker Jew and an illegal East-European immigrant in the IV series.

I'd think it'd be cool if the main character would be stinking rich, having a huge imperium. Then his downfall, shot during a raid from an enemy gang. He got imprisoned after discharge from hospital, but then gets broken out by some good friends. (After several months). Once he's out, the first mission should be escpaing the police and such. After he 'settled down', he realises nobody respects him anymore and has to earn all of his everything back. Fake old friends, the good friends kidnapped and maybe killed, all that sh*t.

Give me VC!

I would have someone with a Hispanic background as the protagonist. Because he of his racial background it drives him to other ways of life such as dealing drugs. But things dont go the way they are suppose to and the American dream of having all this money keeps getting thrown back at the main character...this only drives him more and more to find a way to support his family...the mood in this game would def. be one of desperation and sadness

I like having someone that i can sort of relate to (not that i am anyway a immigrant from eastern europe, a member of a gang in compton or a mafia member) but someone who is sane, and trying to work his way up the ladder in life. Not a crackhead alcoholic borderline retard who is manipulated by people to do crazy sh*t. One of the reasons i love SA is because of CJ, i find him funny by what he says and the way his bosses are sometimes more idiotic than him. It would also be unrealistic to have a mental person because GTA although very crazy, it does have some basic realism, for example CJ starts off working to earn respect from his brother, Niko is working with his cousin. If you are someone who is retarded who would employ you to do mad things?

Johnathan Banks AKA Mike from Breaking Bad.

Or just another Tommy Vercetti.

I want to see more of Niko, bring him back in the next GTA and then i'll be good, either him, Tommy Vercetti, or a young Tony Prince, which would be pretty cool imo, you'd be able to play in the 80's as a young Tony Prince managing clubs, making deals with diamonds, and building your businesses just like in VCS

Official General

I would want an olive-skinned Cuban or Colombian immigrant protagonist (male of course) of White Spaniard/Mestizo appearance to be in his late 20s. The protagonist will be a political prisoner back in his home country, he breaks out of this prison and makes his way to the USA by boat. He arrives in Vice City, Florida with nothing but a few dollars in his pocket. The protagonist will then get caught up in the cocaine drug game and get invloved with all kinds of gangs, crime and madness. He will be caught up in a modern-day, new wave of drug-related crime and gang wars in Vice City. The protagonist will have dealings with Cuban and Colombian drug cartels, Italian Mafia, Russian Mob, Israeli/Jewish mob, white-collar criminal groups, racist hillbilly biker gangs, Hispanic street gangs, African-American street gangs, Haitian gangs etc. Greedy, ruthless bankers and property developers, dirty cops, corrupt politicians and government officials will also figure heavily in this aswell.

A young Tony Prince ? Why would would anyone wanna play as Tony Prince ?? He aint no gangster, not all. No way, I would not want that. I think you're one of a very, very small few who would want that.

Could be fun to have that character as an antagonist who comes up in the gang world as you're rising in the game and becomes your enemy. As it is, there was a sandbox game only 5 years ago which was based on Scarface in which you played as a well-known Cuban immigrant gangster in Miami, and it was called Scarface.

actually i think it would be a pretty good f*cking idea for a game, all the ideas i listed, and then some, or like i said bring back Niko Bellic, i'd like to see a prequel to GTA IV where you play as Niko when he was in the war, that would be pretty damn awesome.

And go!!

couple ideas...

1. ur dad was a mob boss and u never had much to do with his business but then he gets killed and u find urself the new mob-boss. and u must find and kill the mafia family that killed ur father.

2. ur fresh out of the police academy but u get set up from chief of police or someone and get kicked out of the force then u must get revenge on the chief and use ur police knowledge to set havoc on the city

i dont know if those r any good but im just tryin to brain storm. the geniuses at rock* will come up w a brilliant storyline and protagonist. so i have no worries

Well honestly, I think the most important things are story, age and appearance. Here is what i want gta-v to be like.

Protaganist- Eve Gunner (im thinking of more names)

Story- (Have not developed backstory to much) But she lived with her father becuase the rest of her family died when a massacre took place in her small southern neighborhood. Her dad died and left her only 1000 dollars. (They were very poor and he spent all his money on hookers, coke, liquor and gambling). He even threatened to kill her once. She always hated him and secretly couldnt wait for him to die. She wanted to kill him herself. With that money she buys a plane ticket to Vice City. While walking to her motel room she is knocked out and taken to a strange building. It turns out to be Mr.Moretti's underground clubhouse. He is a mob boss. His goons knocked her out becuase he also runs a ring of prostitutes and wants her to be a worker. Eve is against selling her body, according to her "She is to beautiful to be givng it up for $50." They force her to give one of the goons a sexual favor, unknowing that she had a knife in her black boots. She went down pretendingly but the she cut his junk off and stabbed him in the stomach. She took his gun and grabbed her purse and ran for her life. She managed to get away. While running home an old woman offers her a ride home. She accepts. The lady asked her why she was running. She told her vague details. The woman could clearly see Eve was broke and told Eve she could stay in her basement for a few days. Oh right the old womans name is Ms. Sheila. But she said ''Dont try anything funny becuase im always packin'!''She asked Eve what happened. She gave Ms. Sheila and the mobsters, a fake name. Her name is Natalie Brody to them. Not sure what to do with the rest. But I feel like Eve should be bi- to appeal to the males.

Appearance-

Long straight brown hair

About 5'7 or 5'8

Average build.

Very smart and strategical

Very witty

Wears a plaid farmer type shirt and tattered jeans a leather jacket and combat boots

She is of the white ethnicity or hispanic if shes hispanic change the name to Eva Sanchez.

But I know a lot of ppl wouldnt like a female protaganist.

She acquires many friends throughout the game, starting with hookers and hobos then drug dealers all types or mess.

She has a history of crime

She can get down and dirty (killing, swearing, drinking)

She is a mix of Tommy(dont care, will kill anyone) Luis (very cool) Niko (realism as a person and having a good heart)

She is very sarcastic , She can be innapropiate at times and is a bit hotheaded and has a bit of a mouth. Being witty she comes up with good comebacks easily. She can sing pretty well (BECAUSE IN THE NEXT GAME THE CHARACTER SHOULD RANDOMLY SING TO SOME SONGS ON THE RADIO). But yea you can add on to that if you want.

At the end she becomes very succesful but their is a bit of a cliffhanger as to whether she is shot or not. Im not sure how to put it all together though.

I think the Max Payne character was really interesting. He was :self loathing; moral; in love; grieving; insane; had psychedelic nightmares etc. All of that was generated from the one event in his past and I'm thinking maybe a similar set up would work for a GTA character. One event in their past could trigger this schizophrenic personality change. Would make their ability to stomach gang life more believable and would be more original in comparison to other games. Who ever mentioned Fight Club earlier in the thread, I agree. I would love to see a Tyler Durden type character. All twitchy and has a screwed up sense of morality. Don't think it's necessarily think it's a bad thing if the protagonist is a bad bad bastard either :L.

While the obvious choice of location for a character like this would be Liberty City, I think it would work better in Vice City. The bright city would contrast well with the darkness of the character and further compliment the style of the game. That's why, I reckon, Scarface was set in Miami.

I also don't think a more serious character would harm the series, worked well with Niko and personally I feel the Saints Row series does a better job at being over the top and silly, so I think Rockstar should be a bit more serious in their storylines/character development.

As for how the character appears, I personally would like create-a-character tool but if that's not a available then I would go for the Tyler Durden look except with a more Tony Montana, Vice City twist. I also think (whoever mentioned it), the change in character and gameplay is an interesting concept. The character animations, their clothes and even the environment should change from being a sort of quiet and reserved, bad weather, Max Payne look to a all out loud character who swaggers and taunts everyone around them. I think both would be equally dark and chilling.

But that's just some quick ideas.

A combination of Tommy Vercetti and the boss from Saints Row 2. Psychopathic, but with an overall sense of just wanting to have a good time. I hate being depressed and sad. Leave that stuff to Passage and Every day the same dream.

Seriously, how do you have a guy have a sympathetic heart and emotional personality when he RUNS OVER HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE DAILY?!

Well, you chose to run over hundreds of people a day wink.gif

I felt the same way, to some degree. Just on the number of shootings, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense – you've killed probably a couple of thousand people by the end of the story, even if you keep it down to people who Niko might think deserved it – but then again, that was always the criticism of action movies generally. You had these moral heroes in the big 80s/90s action films, but if you kept a check of the body count it was absolutely ridiculous for them to be anything other than mad men. Even before that, James Bond always acted so smooth and classy but he was a mass murderer. As comedians have pointed out, this is a man who will electrocute a man in a bath tub and then, with the stench of the dead man's melted flesh hanging in the air, smirk and say "shocking". People think of Bond as a byword for sophistication, but he's a lunatic. But you let these things pass.

I'd go for hispanic, maybe related to Zetas cartel or something like that. Not Niko, you kew his past in the game and playing him at war just doesn't make GTA sense. Maybe someone who managed to cross the border and escape from mexican cartels who use immigrants to move the drugs or to kill people (ther you have someone that's being haunted by a gang.

If it's LA it could do well I think. Still you need to define a more specific ethnicity (mexican, central american, south american) because each could have a different background. A south american could have a FARC story but that would be Niko-like since its a form of gerrilla soldier. A Central American could have his family killed by "maras" (gangs) and goes to LA to (among other things) try to break up the foundation of central american gangs (which were born in LA and came to third world countries in the form of deported criminals from the US).

Finally, since mexicans are really big patriots, you could have a mexican that simply goes to USA to try to rule the world, affected by the drug war in norther mexico and wanting to start his own business... altough that's a bit of Scarface-like. sorry, my creativity is vanished by this character hahaha.

I would personally go for a Scottish neddish type of character. We have a lot of them in Scotland, but we have never seen any games which seem to include their type of character.

For this to happen, GTA would probably have to come to Scotland though and even if the game was to eventually leave America, which I don't think it will-I doubt Scotland would be a very likely destination for it.

I agree with this. I think a lot of people would try to create some perfect character who everyone likes and respects because he has no weaknesses whatsoever.

I think the best characters are the ones that have a lot of good things about them, but also have some major flaws here and there.
