TyeWebb
Recently downloaded GTA SA from Gamersgate.com while it was on sale in the GTA complete pack. The issue is, I get these graphical stutters or momentary freezes every few seconds, doesn't make it unplayable but it's pretty annoying. This short video shows some examples, you can see some around 15 and 17 and a few more in the next 30 seconds or so PC specs Intel i5 750 @3.6 Ghz Nvidia 460 GTX 1GB 8 GB of Ram Win 7 Pro 64 bit I've tried running in Windows 98 mode and XP SP2 mode, neither made a difference. Also tried frame limiter on and off no difference, I have no mods or patches installed. I have the settings all set to max, and have tried turning things up and down with no success. Its not caused by recording the example clip, this happens whether recording or not. Any thoughts or suggestions, thanks. lil weasel
Have you closed any/all other programs that may/might be running in the background. (Like automatic updaes, virus scans, etc.) Run in W98, Administrative Privileges, Minium Video settings.
Girish
This could be a video driver related issue. Have you tried updating your video driver?
TyeWebb
Sorry about taking a couple days to reply, got caught up with other things. Anyway thanks for the suggestions, I was a bit out of date on my drivers so updated those to the current version. I lowered graphical settings all to the lowest possible, turned off everything in the background I could think of and made sure I was in Win98 mode and admin rights on and still no luck, still getting the same behavior. I think I'll try an uninstall/reinstall and see if that magically fixes it, otherwise I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Thanks again for the suggestions. Girish
Did you delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder after updating your drivers? It might help your case.
TyeWebb
I tried deleting the .set file first and when that didn't help I then went ahead and did an uninstall/reinstall which also didn't fix it. I also went ahead and did a disk check for errors and defrag just for the heck of it, nothing with that either. Guess I'll just deal with it, it's not too bad, except when it happens in a gun fight then it kind of sucks. I also intstalled Vice City just to see if the same problem would exist there and lucky for me VC runs perfectly, so that's a plus. Thanks again for the suggestions. Spider-Vice
Downgrading to XP is never a solution tbh Especially SP2. let your hopes and dreams turn into burning fire! Girish
Downgrading to XP is never a solution tbh Especially SP2. Correction: SP3 San Andreas has had troubles with XP SP3 (compatibility mode solved almost all though). The game has been reported to run best on SP2. But you're right. That's not a good enough solution anymore. I can't help but think that the OP's problem is driver related. I had to rollback to an older driver version to get rid of texture pop-ins on Vista. This is a trial and error method, so you may need to try a handful of different drivers before you find one that works perfect.
TyeWebb
@JF I tried the systemperformance and DEP suggestion and no luck there. I may try a more in depth uninstall like you listed there, last time I did not check to make sure everything was actually deleted, which in hindsight was rather dumb, since uninstalling never gets rid of everything. I don't consider downgrading or reinstalling an option so before getting to that point, I'll deal with it. @Girish You are likely right that it is a driver issue. I just don't know if I have it in me to go through the time needed of testing who knows how many older driver versions which of course still may not solve the problem. And with my luck I'd find a set that gets SA running nice but would break another game. Thinking the most painless solution would be to buy a new video card at this point, lol. Thanks for the help guys.
Girish
Recently downloaded GTA SA from Gamersgate.com while it was on sale in the GTA complete pack. Wait a minute... you DOWNLOADED it?! we can't support pirated files here.. it's against the rules.. Gamersgate does not provide illegal downloads of games. You have to buy it first and then download it; like Steam or Direct2Drive. So, he's fine.
