Is Pixel Art Dead?

Recommended Posts

LongHairedFreakyGuy

I remember some years back on this forum that Isometric Pixel Art was such a massive thing, and had some community projects aswell such as the Tower one. Everyone started having those pixel avatars aswell, such as the one still worn by Moonshield.

Then it just seemed to all end aprubtly. I was thinking about starting to learn it all and everything, especially after seeing VP post his work, but does anyone even do this Isometric Pixel Art anymore?

May seem a random topic, but I was trying to see how much interest this had nowadays, as I have no inspiration whatsoever and can't think of what to design, but was hoping for some ideas or designs of their own they wanted to share?

Kind of like an Official Pixel Art Topic, but don't want to be the creator of such topic due to hypocrisy.

I'm sure pixel art is still doing fine outside of this forum, but the little fad we had in the early 00's is definitely dead. I still pixel from time to time and currently have a couple little projects going.

This is the only version of GTAF's pixel city I have saved. About half of the buildings we're drawn by old gfx-forum regulars:

See, this is why I was hoping members were still into all their Pixelling, since a project like this would give me something to actually work on.

Yeah, been keeping a tab on your current project but not had an update for a while. sad.gif

Going to have to give this a go now that I asked for it to be brought back. Hope it gets quite a few contributions. smile.gif

Just remind me again please, VP, did we used to have the full block and people reserved their block? Just you can see designs are bigger then a block, which means either they designed the full thing, or joined it onto someone elses.

I know that image alone will annoy alot of you PA veterans, but remember am new to this whole thing.

As you can see, I suck at making circles in PA, so I'm going to have to do some work on that. It's supposed to be like a concrete bowl with water in. blush.gif

Anyway, going to add some type of building at the back with a little car park...

We should definitely make a dedicated thread for this. I love pixel art, even though I haven't done any in years. Amazing to know there was this little 'era' on GTAF in which it was really popular.

I think I might have a go at this pixel city thing.

I remember, like a year ago, I (presviously known as txdeditor) did something with pixel art, but it was 2d, not 3d, I mean it was only front of buildings. I'm pretty sure it was ocean drive in Miami, and I've done like 1/3 of the buildings.

I'm hoping this thing gets alive, might keep me not bored while it's summer smile.gif

Feel free to make a official topic, maybe we can get the ball rolling by implicating everyone in the graphics community.
