tuareg
Dedicated serveers for PC http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/118/1188343p1.html Also: Modern Warfare 3 “Looking to Support Dedicated Servers” says Infinity Ward’s Robert BowlingPublished by admin on June 9th, 2011 - in Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Gaming News Out at E3, our away team just walked out of a very interesting interview with Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling. In the course of the 12 minute chat (which we’ll be posting video of as soon as possible, so check back for it), the talk inevitably turned to the topic of support for Modern Warfare 3 players on the PC. Here’s how that went. (Editor: Emphasis is ours) GameFront: We have a big PC gaming community. Lots of modders, that kind of thing. Are you guys talking at all yet about what sorts of features the PC version of the game will have? Robert Bowling: In Modern Warfare 3, I’ve been trying to reach out ot our PC guys. We had some of the [PC] guys come out to the studio a few weeks ago. We have them here. We brought them here so they can see the stuff we’re showing off. We’re putting a lot of focus there, to make sure that our PC community has all the bells and whistles. So, the guys that have the powerhouse machines, that they can crank it up and enjoy the game. It’s very important for us on the PC to make sure we have a solid min-spec base–so that the majority of our PC users can enjoy the game out-of-box, run it smooth, exactly how they expect. That’s very key for us. You’d be surprised how that can easily be overlooked. We’re making sure the PC is up and running from day one, and it’s running smooth on min-spec and beyond throughout the entire development process. As you get later on in the development cycle, you get to the point where you start focusing on PC-specific features. It’s the one platform out of Xbox 360, PS3 and PC that has specific things that go only into that version. That stuff comes a little later. I can’t confirm anything yet, but right now we’re having conversations about dedicated servers, mod tools and post launch support. I can’t give you an answer yet on what will be included. In Modern Warfare 2 we added IWnet, which was all about matchmaking–with the plan to eventually add in dedicated servers. My ideal philosophy on the PC is to have matchmaking for the “mass.” Have matchmaking for the guys who just want to jump in, hit “play game” and start playing. But let’s not lose that dedicated core audience that wants the dedicated server experience. We’re looking at ways to incorporate that into Modern Warfare 3. We’ve been listening a lot to our PC guys who have been very vocal since Modern Warfare 2 about what they want to see come back to our versions of the franchise. GF: So if you had your way, Modern Warfare 3 would have dedicated servers? Robert Bowling: We’re having those discussions now. I don’t want to confirm, but we’re looking to support that as much as possible. Edited August 17, 2011 by tuareg
Creed Bratton
Oh my god can he be more obvious? He is trying so hard to kiss PC gamers' ass because he knows that every PC gamer will buy Battlefield 3. And the way he's talking about PC features is such a pathetic and obvious attempt to win over PC crowd. Well I'm sorry Mr. Robert Bowling, but until I actually see a PC version being treated with respect, you can suck a fat cock. Isn't this similar to what Treyarch was saying last year? And look how that turned out. Is there a reason to think IW will do a better job? Edited August 17, 2011 by GTAvanja
d0mm2k8
Is there a reason to think IW will do a better job? Ye bcuz infinity ward is better then treysh*t! I seriously don't get that. Treyarch make the more balanced ones with zombies. IW isn't even the same company that made CoD 4 any more.

Treyarch make the more balanced ones with zombies. IW isn't even the same company that made CoD 4 any more. Yeah BO was balanced i'll give it that. Too bad the hit detection sucked monkey balls and the connection is always up and down. Brb killing someone with the python in one shot then the dude takes 3 hits it in the back from it in another game. Or having to shoot behind some guy to kill him because the hit box isn't even on the character model. What ze fuk is that sh*t? And i like how everyone bitches about MW3 graphics, but what the f kind of graphics did BO have?: Seriously just look at it. It was balanced out well i'll give it that much and with dedicated servers it would of been a blast. However there were lots of things wrong with it. Just to stay on topic there'll be some gameplay footage released shortly from gaming wesbsites. MW3 is open on the show floor of Games COM so there should be some uncut survival mode footage released supposedly full rounds. http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1019267/moder...ks_snipers.html http://www.examiner.com/game-news-in-natio...odern-warfare-3 Edited August 18, 2011 by tuareg
KilnerLUFC
With Battlefield 3, Electronic Arts wants to take down Activision's Call of Duty franchise, and it hasn't been shy about admitting as much. However, in opening statements at this year's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg suggested such rabble-rousing ultimately serves no one. Hirshberg would like to keep the fighting confined to his games. As reported by Eurogamer, Hirshberg said competition was a good thing. However, he added that public statements hoping for a rival's game to fail crosses a line. "Recently a competitor of ours was quoted as saying that he wants to see Call of Duty 'rot from the core,'" Hirshberg said. "I've been asked countless times to respond to this comment and I've generally chosen not to. My job is to help our incredibly talented, passionate teams to make the best games they can, not to throw insults around at others. But I actually feel this kind of rhetoric is bad for our industry." Hirshberg went on to say that publishers should be supportive of each other, because a great game will always sell because it's great, not because it steals sales from the competition. He said that was the mindset of politics, which necessitates that one side lose if another side is to win. "We shouldn't be tearing each other apart fighting for a bigger piece of the pie," Hirshberg said. "We should all be focused on trying to grow a bigger pie. If we as an industry act like there's a finite number of games in the world, then there will be." Source Reading a few mixed opinions on this, such as Activision were the ones who started all the trash talk. I agree with the article though...companies shouldn't be putting other companies down and hoping that they fail.
tubbs51
@butters: i agree with it as well... who the f*ck cares who started it... ffs both games are great and both have earned their successes. no need to be flinging poo like a chimpanzee on laxatives. KilnerLUFC
Ignore the last part of the first video. He goes on to say that it was actually an AC-130 that got the kill, as you can also see some type of missile firing down from the sky, but as the second video goes into detail, it is actually an IMS. The 'bomb' flies into the air, finds it enemy, and then shoots towards that enemy, detonating upon impact. The AC-130 icon is used as they are still in beta testing, and just recycled the placeholder from MW2. Not found anything else about whether it's a care package reward or some type of equipment, such as the claymore. Suggest watching both of the videos though, as the first one does get quite a few details from the information on screen, such as being able to get multiple killstreak rewards of the same killstreak if you manage to stay alive. papanesta
I think this whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. Especially as Robert Bowling was talking to the DICE team on Twitter saying how much he loved the game, despite the fact they got his tags. Icarus
I bought Modern Warfare 2 tonight and got through the campaign (on regular - next step is veteran) and I must say I enjoyed it, so I will be looking forward to Modern Warfare 3 in November. I'll probably pre-order my copy next month since I would like to start this game when it comes out; I ended up getting Black Ops about four months after its release and was behind everyone else, so I'd like to prevent that this time. I was disappointed I didn't get to kill Makarov in MW2, but then I saw he'll be in MW3 - all the better.

I did a few of the Spec Ops missions tonight; they're fun, but I imagine some are going to be quite the challenge. Lithium said he would do some co-op Spec Ops with me since a few of them require that, which should be well and dandy. Of course, it'll be the same deal with MW3. I wouldn't mind playing with you, but note that I'm not really good at first-person shooters - don't expect miracles, ha. My gamer tag is in my profile. vertical limit
Sure, there are still more fun ones where you control the AC-130 artillery and another one where you shoot out from a Huey, basically something similar to the chopper gunner kill streak in Black Ops. It is absouletley fine bro.

Source: Here! Am hoping they add a few more killstreak rewards, since that list seems to be lacking variety, and full of UAV items. Missed the first list of Killstreak rewards. After re-reading the list, I'm actually looking forward to seeing them in-game, and hope this isn't just a fake article. And the Marksman perk sounds alot like the feature seen in BC2 (not sure on any other BF game), where you can point out an enemy to your team. tuareg
Until it's confirmed by Bowling himself i'll take it with a pinch of salt. It's a shame if that list turns out fake (it's been floating around for a week now) some of those kill/point streak awards sound like fun.
