San Andreas Nostalgia!

Recommended Posts

--Vega--

Playing that game for the first time.. pure video game magic. I spent countless hours on SA and stayed up for like 2 days straight the first run-through. Even remember the old commercials in 2004 for it with the twilight orange sky. Man that takes me back.

The intro mission riding the bikes back to Grove Street... R* nailed the early 90s feel perfectly in that game too. The radio stations were pure gold. Nearly a flawless game. Definitely the gem of the GTA series and one of the best games ever made (my personal favorite of all time). When first playing it, it was such a step up from III and VC that it truly felt like you were playing the most epic game ever created. The pure freedom-feel of the game was enough alone, let alone finishing the storyline and 100%.

Also remember first time killing Ryder. Man did that piece of sh*t deserve that or what.

I've stopped playing this game and haven't done so with the recent GTAs but this is still my best gaming experience to this date.

It feels so nostalgic now

Wow, 2004, I think part of the reason that GTASA is so nostalgic to me all the fun I was having in my life at that time. I was dumb and didn't pre order it, and went to 5 different stores before I could find a copy at Circuit City (RIP).I had high expectations for the game, but was still blown away by the 3 cities and all the variety of desert and country side, the first thing I did in free roam was drive up North to see how close I could get to Las Venturas, lol. I still remember how messed up it seemed in 555 We Tip to kill the valet who did nothing to bring it on themselves, and I still think of that every time I replay that mission, It also took my 3 years to figure there was a 3rd casino in LV called Casino Floor.

Back when I was still playing co-op couch with my older brother on ps2 console, there was one time when we went to Las Venturas before I unlocked Countryside. We got hydras shot our Dodo and I immediately jumped out of it even though I already knew that I will die. Cause I thought even if I stay, I would still die eventually since that Dodo was about to explode.

What a shame that I cannot experience such wonderful moments from my old days of gaming ever again. T_T

Ahhh i rymenber in one PC/Console games magazine there was announcment of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, before read whole article i thought SA gonna be bassed on Los Angeles, but NOPE! SA gonna better than one city but whole map with three cites and rual farms/desert outskirts YEAH!

And later there was on Videoreview of PS2 Version on HYPER(TV channel for gamers RIP! 2001-2014) After videoreview i got positive opinion too and not worried about PC Port, there was olso conest to win San Andreas orginal soundtrack set, ive failed to win but im not mad after this.

And there is summer and PC port Finally! At first WT....! with price? while PS2 version cost 100zl(Its 25.67$ Today) while PC version cost 250zl (64,19$ Today)OK Fine its was collector edition, but price at his own are too high. At least :D ive good friends Me and my best buddy from school can borrow some cash but in exchange.

-Robert T(aka Dodger).Alright i borrow you money but in exchange let test this game at my home FIRST!

Ive agree, with this idea and his older and adult brother purchased game for us because :D clerks gonna nagging us because dont have 18 years old yet.

After purchase as promised my friend and his brother gonna test game first at his home, and we both stunned WOOOOW this so coool :D its finally here PC GTA San Andreas.

The first step we tried find out did protagonist can really swim, as GTA3 and Vice City we know every contact with high water are deadly, and yes CJ :) can swim NICE!, but swiming to other city are pointless because police starting chasing

Robert.WHAT IS THIS!! BORDER PATROL?

-Me.Its looks like that tenpenny cop wanna make sure CJ not leave Los Santos too quickly.

Hey, I'd just like to share with you all my first time playing this magical game, and reminisce with some memories from the past,

Ok, the first time I played, It was around 2004 or 2005, it was Christmas and my mum had bought it for me as a present,

When I opened up my present to discover it was GTA sanandreas I was EXSTATIC, I couldn't believe it! It was just what I wanted! :D

I raced to my ps2 as fast as I could, and shoved it straight in the disc drive! :D

Oh boy, As the game was loading I felt a magic feeling inside and I JUST KNEW me and this new game were gonna have a special bond!!

Finally! It loaded! Skipped all the cutscenes and jumped straight on the BMX!
The first thing I noticed was the size of the map! It was huge! :D
I jus couldn't wait to explore the whole thing!

So I went off, didn't even do the missions, I jus went off exploring not knowing where the f*ck I was going,
I remember some how ending up at that lake where that wheelchair is, dunno why, but I was drawn to that spot, tried to go fishing or something but it didn't work lol,

Anyway, there I go..continuing on, and as I was swimming down the lake, I accidentally pressed circle or something and discovered that I could swim UNDER WATER, THAT WAS AMAZING! the first GTA that you can swim under water,

It all seems pretty boring now because I'm like 19 now lol, but back then it was f*ckin magical

So I'd just like to hear all of your stories from the first time playing?
What did ya'll get up to?

PS! reading this may cause cringe!

This topic reminded me how much of empty void my past has, no real entertainment or games until 2013 when i got first gta sa experience!

I never had proper games as a gift from anyone, only proper games i have now are gta sa pc version v1 from second-hand market and only few years ago bought out of pawn shop ps2 and burnout 3. I have Nothing else for it, never had motivation to buy any ps2 gta games since aftermarket pc version left empty feeling (no nostalgia memories)!

Modern game like gta 5 felt reasonable to buy second-hand since it was kinda new and expensive in store but was already sold after market and same with xbox 360 with few more games on the pile from previous owner in summer of last year!

Only game-like thing i got in early 2000's was knock-off console called polystation (playstation 1 shaped 8-bit chip reader) and cheap china versions of some nintendo games from local radio-tv store!

Anyway i never heard of gta games before late 2013 (maybe seen couple videos with no meaning to me) and i did hear about them from few guys at profession/vocational education school, starting with gta san andreas which i got from second hand marketing website! (was 19 at the moment, never break the law at least, *bitter sarcastic laugh* :whuh: )

Before that i played my lame-ass chinese versions of 8-bit cassette super mario, tank 1990, tetris etc on some multi-game chips (being at least 20 years late with those) and some weak freeware Java racing games on pentium 4 pc and that was until 2012 for whole family which is very crappy hardware for even one person... AND even if i got to experience that gem of the gta game i feel HUGE void inside me because i never had a childhood memories/experiences of good entertaining things!

I Didn't even have hardware capable to handle ANY 3D-era gta game before 2012 (that was first time i got cheap but just a little more capable own computer)

I am on par with the guy who posted long story on jan 22nd 2016 but since the attitude towards video games in my country from adults was in the 2000's very spiteful then they rather went with cheap things to just give something to kids with minimum cost and only very rich ones could buy any original games or systems and even that with allowance (pocket money) and i wasn't in that "living-the-American-dream" part of community!

Sorry if my post feel kinda Off Topic or full of whining but seeing this thread active not long ago made me read it and ignited mixed feelings in me!

Edited copy paste from a similar thread I created.

SA is definitely the most nostalgic for me, mainly because it's the first "official" GTA game that I played...And despite the fact that the disc is more used up and worn out than my asshole, I still keep it safely in its box, and in my game drawer...Why? Because of all the fond memories I have of playing it...And it happened during summer vacation, so I didn't need to worry about homework, or my parents telling me to go to sleep because it's a school day tomorrow...This was also the same summer that I got my first computer(ergo, my introduction to internet), and started listening to extreme metal...So the whole day I was playing the game, looking for random sh*t on the internet(most of it related to SA and R*, and doing research on extreme metal), and listening to the aforementioned music while taking notes on its sub-genres and their respective bands...Yep, it was the best summer vacation I ever had.

I have loved this game for 12 years now the nostalgia is insanely strong. Even a few years ago used to come back from the pub drunk with my best mate and plug in the old ps2 blind as bats and start playing at 2AM with his sober girlfriend as an audience.

We had so many hilarious times on GTA one of the last times we talked, we spoke about the time we got drunk and were playing San Andreas on two player as usual, and we were saying we don't want to get busted again, nek minnut we try steal a car and we have a wanted level, he says don't worry I will shoot this cop and we will be okay, so he shoots the cop, now we have two stars, he runs toward the police car by accident instead of the pedestrian car and goes who wants to drive? "I'll drive" We both pressed triangle at the same time though and our characters run in circles around the police car, and then at the same time we both open the back doors and climb in you sit in the back seat, and another cop runs over, points the gun at the car. Busted. HAHAHA How does that even happen? A miraculous glitch while we were drunk hahaha. We arrested ourselves hahaha We laughed for so long.

The sad thing is that he killed himself 6 months ago and every time I even hear a song that is on that game I break down, today I heard free bird, pretty heavy song. It's not fair, why would a good looking guy like him with so many friends do that?

Anyway I love this game, the nostalgia is so strong, yet I don't know if I'll ever play it again. Maybe I should let go of the past.

Long live San Andreas!

Yeah I feel the same way about SA regarding this aspect of the game. Yes there is no wildlife and very little else going on in the countryside, but the feeling of vast exploration and being able to visit other cities makes up for that.

I love Countryside in San Andreas. The vegetation and the map/zone layout are just wonderful. It's just great to travel through the countryside and forest zones to get into other towns, and even more on my lovely PS2. The platform that saw San Andreas born.

When i look back to October 2004 this game definitely gave me some of my best memories of life as a 21 year old man now. I was here since day 1 even if I was about 9 when I first played it i still remember going to the game store that day with my mum to buy it. Its a game that gave me so many great memories amonest friends family and myself. Good old times singing along to K-Rose! And entering the countryside for the first time was a game experience never to be found again 😀

..In a good way! This may be R*'s most ambitious game to date. What they managed to pull off running on a PS2 is nothing short of a miracle. Havent played the game since 2015 and I recently started a new game. Theres so much to do and so much to see. I guess this is a SA appreciation thread ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What is your favorite thing to do in this awesome game?

Starting a new game is always so special. All of a sudden there's so much ahead of you to do. As for my favourite thing? It's more of a combination of things. I don't quite go for the starter save but I definitely get a bulk of the side missions out of the way. It was a great way to get reacquainted with the city and earn some extra cash early on. Don't bother even buying weapons because you'll end up with nothing by the time you reach the countryside. Save it for properties and businesses later on.

This is back in the day when R* weren't greedy f*cks with D*ckTwo. Back when they made gta games with heart. IV was their last grate game imo. V was good up until their online sh*t. Then at the end R* was f*cked with T2 making their moves with the modding.

OT: What's my favorite thing to do in SA?

Just play it...that's all. Playing this in 2017 and will for years to come. SA was the sh*t for it's time in 2004 and still is. Makes you realize R* weren't always the way they were as they are today. T2 made them worse in a whole other way.

My favorite, and most nostalgic GTA game. Here's how it went.

Hello darlings! As for my favorite thing to do, cause havoc with the hydra, gamble, drive through the whole state, the little things, you know? :)

Driving a train across the whole state for the sub-mission. Even if the job is very easy with the passengers' train and doesn't give anything fancy it's very agreable. I love trains in general and seeing the landscapes of the countryside, the desert, the lights changing with the day time, the sound of the train, it reminds me good memories.
